Urgh - and while we're at it, I've just checked the house insurance renewal docs - there's a small detail wrong (which I'm pretty sure wasn't wrong last year  but I can only see last year's docs through their website and it seems to be wrong there too so that's my fault I suppose :o )

Anyway, since I have to actually ring them up to change it (and no doubt they'll be really annoying and go through EVERY SINGLE DETAIL on the telephone), I might just go through the comparison site anyway.

    Yawn, NOT my favourite activity!

But still, might save us a few quid, you never know :j And this might be the time I FINALLY get round to sorting out Quidco :rotfl:

Right, that's probably enough for tonight!
  • Yeah to new phone! Love your plan for the year, I'm sure you will achieve all your goals.
Can you let us know how the new YNAB compares to the old one, I'm not sure if I can justify buying it, but it has superdeduper new features I may have to!!!

    Xxxxxx
Hoping to stick to the challenge this year!!

    :hello: Hi Stressed Mum :)

Shall do - I'm running them both side by side for a few days (using the free trial), bit annoying but it's a good comparison!

So far... I LOVE the ability to set goals, and it tells you what % of the way there you are, and how quickly you' get there if you save the same amount each month. Love that.

Also love that you're not tied to only 'income for this month' or 'income for next month' - can allocate months in advance if you've got it or care to! Not that I've done that, mind you :rotfl:

I DON'T like the lack of a calculator in each individual cell, but I suspect that's a minor thing they'll sort out soon. You can also only see one month at a time (not 3) and you can't put off payments in each category til next month, which I imagine will be a pest eg for work expenses.

But overall I was very taken with the new version, but then I do like a bit of novelty :D Lots of complaining on the YNAB forum :rotfl: but half the things they're complaining about i didn't use anyway :rotfl:

Bit annoying that it's moving to subscription rather than one off payment... and that it's online only, so you can't play around when the internet's not on, but neither of those are deal breakers for me. It's got me so organised and helped me save so much in the last year that I'm happy to pay for it!

But I'm doing the 34 day free trial which will take me into Feb so will experiment til then and if I don't like it, will just stick with the old one :D

Right, enpugh waffling on from me, need to get out of bed and crack on! :j :j Today is the day I start to move out of Christmassy Holidays Fug and back towards activity mode - new job starts in 3 days!

    :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm actually embarrassed about it :o :rotfl: :rotfl: But I've had this one for over 3 years now, and all kinds of things don't work any more :o But in reality I suppose it could have limped on for another few months at least :o

    Oh dear :o

:o:o My phone is also over 3 years old and has started struggling with certain bits. Battery power is also almost non-existant now too so I have been looking round for a new(er) phone. Guy in the phone shop almost eye rolled when I told him I didn't want the newest model just the one up from what I've got. Like you though I could limp on but I have been swaying more towards replacing it.

Good luck for the estate agent on monday. That's exciting that you may be moving sooner rather than later.

I like how YNAB shows you % of each category. I did try YNAB but found it really complicated. I could try again but I don't like the idea of subscription or online only either :( It's great that your savings was the biggest category % wise. Well done

Ooh, thanks fanny adams! :j :j Looks like somewhere will give me £16 for my little phone - better than nowt! :money: Good idea - I was thinking I'd have to sell it on Ebay or something and that wasn't filling me with joy... :o BUt I'll do that once I'm sure the new one's working properly, thank you! :j :j

Took me a while to get the hang of YNAB too Starnac, it's not really like anything else, but for some reason it just clicked eventually. I think the subscription works out about £30 a year - not ideal as I got it for a £17 one off payment before!

Right, going to bite the bullet and sort the house insurance  HATE doing comparisons etc :o but I'm going to anyway :D AND I'm going to see if I can get cashback from somewhere too :j

Well that was relatively painlessly :o Did 3 comparison sites plus the two that don't include them, and the cheapest by at least £20 was.... the renewal quote :rotfl: :rotfl: Rang up to change my job title and the age of the house (which I'm SURE I checked last year.... ) - for some reason that added £22 to the policy - but then she was 'authorised to give a discount' of £16...

    Whatever... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Buildings and contents for a year for £125 :j No cashback but still not bad :j

Think that's it for household financial stuff for a while, thank goodness! :j :rotfl:

That's not too bad Cheery I personally hate all the tediousness of comparison sites but sometimes it's worth it. Love how she was "authorised" to give you a reduction :rotfl:

I know :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Without even speaking to anyone! :rotfl:

I confess it did all make me SLIGHTLY suspicious that they might 'accidentally' change a detail or two, to hope that people don't notice, and then their policy is void  But it might just have been me who didn't notice last year :o :rotfl:

Popped out to get some flowers for my nan, and accidentally spent £18 (including flowers) in T*sco :o Mostly fizzy vitamin c (on offer), indigestion tablets, and reduced stuff :j Scones for 50p, crumpets 20p, kiwis etc :j :j There was a lot of reduced veg, but it was looking very sorry for itself, and wasn't reduced enough to tempt me, so I left it there :D

Yet again though we have an illustration of why Mr Cheery is in charge of the food shopping... :o :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hmmm! That worries me slightly

Glad you did actually get flowers in there too ;)
