50p a year??? I thought we were bad. We pay £1.75 a year! The bill always made me laugh - typed out on a typewriter no less! A few years ago we sent them a cheque for £10 and let them get on with it! :rotfl:

Ours is a total of £20 a year, but that's divided between all the houses covered by the same lease, so our portion is 50p :rotfl: Apparently when Mr Cheery first moved in someone used to come round and collect it once a year, but they've not been since about 1995 - can't say I blame them (although as we all know, little amounts add up over the years!) :D

Our lease is hilarious - we're forbidden from erecting a steam hammer on site or running a tannery or tallow factory :rotfl:

Thats the one! And he was Keira Knightley's father in Pirates of the Caribbean :)

What a wonderful lease! Just shows you what people in your area were up to 116 years ago :j So you could have chickens even where you are right now :D

Oh yes, nothing to stop us having chickens in the lease - but I wouldn't because the garden is pretty much just a 6 foot wide strip of land directly next to the pavement. Hardly ideal chicken environment! Could put up a giant fence to stop them being poked at by passing children and dogs, but then they'd essentially be living in a tunnel - also hardly ideal :D :rotfl:

Ah! I thought you had a little bit of a square as well, don't know why. No, that wouldn't be ideal, would it ... Okay, off to the countryside with you :)

Well, we've got a tiny bit outside next doors kitchen window where we store the bins, and the bit outside the back door that has right of access for another 5 houses - also not ideal for chickens :rotfl:

Scary phone call avoidance has led to maximum productivity in other areas :j :rotfl:

    * bought 'new' cooker from a charity shop on gumtree - £65 (including delivery) - will arrive next Thursday :j

    * arranged for plumber to come and fit on Friday, and do annual gas safety check at the same time :j

    * rang local solicitor and booked to have our identities verified for the land registry on Monday :j He reckoned it'd just cost £10 each :j

Can't put off phone call any longer :o (in my defence - I did already ring once and colleague told me she'd be back in half an hour)

Well you are quite lucky then. Apparently according to the neighbour who lived there when we first moved in, our ground rent goes up everytime the house changes hands. We are only the 3rd people to own this house (built 1900 ish) so pay £1.75 but his house has changed hands so many times that he paid £5  The guy who lives there now says they upped it to £10 when he moved in!!!:rotfl:

Love all the clauses in your lease!!!

Hope scary phone call wasn't that scary.

Ooh, that's interesting! When we paid the mortgage off they sent us all the original documents so there's one from when Mr Cheery bought the house saying it was still 50p so all good :D :rotfl:

Scary phone call was fine :j

More scary was taking the paper off the bathroom wall  Overflow pipe froze a couple of years ago, and we managed to snap it off while trying to remove icicle :o:o Didn't fix it, so water ran down the wall and then froze in a big sheet - and obviously seeped in to the bathroom, ruining the plaster..

Been ignoring it for another year or two now :o while the paper slowly peels its way off and you can hear bits of plaster fall as you lie in the bath... :o

Bit the bullet tonight and ripped the whole lot off - including rather a lot of the plaster  Huge gaping holes

Much watching of plastering videos and researching of types of plaster has ensued :rotfl: :rotfl: Turns out I can buy what I need in Wickes for less than £20 and if I !!!! it up then I'll get someone in but I'm darn well going to have a go first - nothing ventured, nothing gained after all! :j

Also finally remembered to order my green sealant for round the bath = £8.67 :j Should be here next week - just about when I've finished the plastering :rotfl:
