Wow, this is getting very real! The outlay on tools is horrendous, isn't it! And they don't make them like they used to :D

My cordless screwdriver died on me after about four years, but my dad gave me his electric drill about 15 years ago, and it was old when I got it, but its still going strong :)

I do like the sound of stopping diy to drink amaretto :j

Cheery it is all starting to become real. Good luck on the plastering. I don't envy you that job. Good that Mr Cheery is home next week as hopefully 2 of you will make light work of the HUGE ;) list you have made for yourself.

Like mentioned earlier KC I think? Only do the bits the EA will see. They will not move furniture or open cupboards. Shove everything out of sight and clean what's left :rotfl:

Mind you if you had seen the photos of our house that were on RM you would have been horrified. Thankfully we can see past clutter but every room was packed full of stuff!!

Well I've spent the entire day and managed to actually get to a point where the plaster can go on :rotfl: Haven't put it on mind - it's just taken me all !!!!in day to strip the wallpaper, chip out the bits of flaking plaster etc

Sadly it was all falling off round the bath too which I was hoping to avoid... Might tile that bit as it's quite awkward to get at - I reckon I can just slide tiles behind the pipes :D

Also varnished the living room windowsill and spent an hour on the phone to a lovely pal who helped me fill in all the land registry forms :j

Managed to clog the hoover with plaster and polystyrene paper

And am now ignoring the whole lot and have ordered a takeaway :D :rotfl:

I did indeed enjoy my takeaway thank you and am quite tempted to have another one tonight... :o :rotfl:

Well, we went to view our new house :j Which unfortunately is not going to become our new house any time soon...

    Things we liked:
    * cheery little kitchen looking over the front - I like being able to see people walking past (but not as close as here!)
    * Giant balcony the same size as the living room and utterly glorious views over the balcony :j
    * second room in the basement with doors out onto a second terrace down into the garden
    * room for chickens and dog
    * can still cycle to the station
    * near the post office :D

    Not-so-good things
    * utterly TINY compared to what the photos looked like  I mean, we expected a bit of difference, but it was quite extreme  Their sofa was 1.5 seats and there wasn't really room for a bigger one, and it backed straight onto the electric fire so you'd have to move it round if you wanted to light that, and then you'd have your back to the view

    * bedroom wasn't very big, and only ad a bed in. Built in wardrobe wouldn't have held all my clothes, let alone Mr Cheery's  We'd have to use the spare room as a dressing room :rotfl:

    * Weird set up in the basement. Looked like two unfinished cellars on the floor plan, but really there was only one (with a REALLY sloping floor) and the other was actually bricked up - we shone a torch through a little hole and all that was in there was a can of pledge furniture polish  :rotfl: :rotfl:

    * access down to basement/music room/garden terrace bit (underneath balcony) was down tiny set of cramped stairs that Mr Cheery couldn't stand up in. We'd likely have his music room down there so REALLY not ideal, and almost impossible to lug musical equipment up and down to the car

So, considering it's right at the top of our price range, I suspect we're not going to go for it.

Ah well, got us all excited for a bit (and I'm still really taken with the views and the balcony!) Went to 2 cafes this afternoon to calm down a bit :rotfl:

Slapped a bit of PVA on the bathroom wall and going to do a minor bit of plastering when I get back in a couple of hours. Big bit will have to wait til we can mortar on the outside as you can actually SEE outside through the wall at the minute...

Still, won't be finished before the guy comes to value it on Friday, but as we're not putting an offer in on this, we don't need to put on the market immediately, so i'm less bothered if there's stuff in progress.

(still need to tidy up mind you!)

    :D

If it was me, I'd be sort of concerned about going for the first one I saw, so in a way, this is good - you need to know not only what's right for you, but also what the market's pricing things at.

Erm, slightly concerned that you have a hole in your bathroom wall! And that must be quite chilly

I'd have been happy with the first one if it'd been perfect :D But it wasn't, sadly :rotfl: But you're right - cheery to have a view at a few :)

Don't worry about our wall - it's only a teeny tiny gap down the side of a bit of the window, not a whole separate window-sized hole  :rotfl:

    Right - today's money-related things :)

    * off to see solicitor to get ID checked for land registry forms this afternoon :j Apparently this is going to cost us £10 each :money:

    * need to photocopy form as printer is broken... probably about another 50p :rotfl:

Not a bad day really :j

Things I need to buy because they've actually broken

    * printer (we've had it well over 10 years and I can get a replacement for £70 - can get cheaper but then ink costs a fortune! Happy I can get reasonably-priced ink for this one)

    * hoover - sadly bust this one hoovering up plaster dust in the bathroom ... :o Will make an attempt to fix but otherwise it's down to Tesco for a replacement before the house valuer comes on Friday

Also need to sort dosh for the gas fitter (coming to fit the new cooker on Friday) :j

Ooh, and need to pick up our prescriptions - mine is free but Mr Cheery's needs paying for.

Just costing a proposal for work and they're charging me out at £451 a day   Good heavens. Shame I don't get most of that really :rotfl:

Well done on pricing the ink for the new printer - I confess, whenever I've needed to buy a printer, I've **needed** it, so I've taken whatever's there ... for the one I have now, the four cartridges of ink cost as much as the original printer! Dreadful!

Good luck on the rest of it :)
