How much did your wedding dress cost?

Options
Hi ladies!

As we are now looking at budgets and planning on how to spend our money, whilst trying to be as frugal as possible I am wondering what us money savers view as an acceptable price for a wedding dress? I know what style I like, and have seen a particular dress I like, an have been quoted by 7 different dress shops, the cheapest being £800. The dress is a maggie sottero, and whilst it's only 1 day and I could buy a second hand 1 etc I just don't want to do that.

So what was your dress cost and have you any advice re haggling or ways to get them any cheaper?

Thanks x

My missus got hers from ebay for £28 and it was perfect and made up for the cost of my outfit. (Full kilt and regalia)

I was browsing eBay for style ideas and saw the perfect dress stuck in a low bid of £50 and won.

  • When did you both get married? Duchy was your dress just as nice in person?

  • In total my dress is costing £755 but I set myself a budget of £1000. I know it's a lot of money but as a plus sized bride I didn't want to skimp and get something that didn't look right or wasn't of good quality. Mine was also a custom colour so there wasn't a chance of getting it second hand.

The dress was perfect but I took the attitude that at the price if it wasn't what I wanted I could sell it on anyway and probably will after the wedding.

  • Yes oh said I could budget £1000 for my dress so when I told him I'd found 1 for £800 he jokingly said he'd changed my budget to £500 lol. I do think £800 is crazy for 1 day though, I'm size 8/10 so pretty easy to get a dress to fit me.

  • mine is £580 including underskirt i checked ebay but the style i loved wasnt available and i didnt have time to spend a few weeks keep checking remember you need to order it at least 6 months before wedding if your using a dress shop. and if your buying second hand you may need to allow for dry cleaning costs. my feeling was i could cut back on other things because i wanted to feel fabulous and look good in photos guests will forget most of the details of the wedding but the photos are their forever lol. remember you have the option to sell it afterwards to recoup some of the cost.
iv done 3 things right in my life and their all perfect

I did the same as Duchy, got a dress on Ebay for £50, its new, comes with the underskirt/petticoats - the bride fell pregnant - its perfect and i was on the same train of thought that if i didnt like it, i would sell in on for the price i paid! :) its only one day afterall and i feel like a princess in it! I found my dress in shop and searched ebay, preloved for it. I found it for £150.00 which I bought.

Hubby then bought my jimmy's choo's for several hundred but I've loved wearing them since.

I also cut up my dress and make a posh frock and cushions:rotfl:
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • I got my dress for £15 on ebay. It fitted perfectly and I LOVED it... I was just going to wear an off the peg nice dress that I could wear again, but as my dress was only £15 I don't mind that it just sits in a bag on top of the wardrobe for now! I only bought it 2 weeks before the wedding... I told everyone how much it cost too as I loved to see their shocked expressions! Good Luck!
