we take our own snacks and booze with us in a coolbox..and ask the hotel for an ice bucket and ice cubes for our vodka and tonic..they are usualy ok about it..

Most large or chain hotels will actually have an ice-machine you can use on one floor :) Not sure if they have something to carry the ice in though... you may have to take your glasses.

I've ordered a Dominos pizza to my hotel before! You are the boss!

I have lost count the times I have ordered a takeaway and had it delivered to the hotel mainly on business travel.

You are classed as a resident when you stay in the hotel, hence being able to drink past the normal drinking hours.
Never had an issue, and if your lucky the delivery lad will also go to the offy and pick up some beer/wine and fags as well.

I see nothing wrong in taking your own food and drink into a hotel room. We sometimes have nights away at music gigs where it's a late finish as we help taking down the equipment afterwards. One we did recently, we were starving and it was 1.00am, so we picked up a pizza on the way back to the hotel and sat in bed eating it! Likewise, we have taken wine on many occasions.

We spend a lot of time on cruise ships too, where policies vary. But we use a line where you can take your own booze on board for consumption in your cabin. We take fizz, gin & tonic, etc, which is fine. I ask the steward for champagne glasses, ice, lemon, and for him to clear the fridge mini-bar so we can store our own, and they are fine with it.

Incidentally, OP, if you are having strawberries, don't forget a can of squirty cream....;)
