Remember using a feather is kinky, whilst using the whole chicken is perverted.

Revolting cronyism. Work should be awarded on merit. I'd want no part of that.

I agree but networking and the old boys network is not limited to Freemasons. It happens everywhere, in every walk of life. Linked In anyone?
  • Now you're all just teasing. Also, I can't look some things up at work. I'll just stick with my imagination. Ha!

I would have a problem with this as well if OH decided to join. We both have our own interests/hobbies and I don't feel the need to be joined at the hip all the time, but the fact that I couldn't choose to join in if I wanted to, purely because of my sex, would be very, very difficult for me to accept. Me and OH are equals, which makes it galling when something like this comes along and tries to tell us that we're not.

I also think the cronyism aspect is appalling. There are plenty of female business owners now. Why shouldn't they be able to join and get the benefits too? Old boys' network at it's best while the wives get a 'woman's weekend or two'. Whoop-de-doo. It's a shame society hasn't moved beyond this.

The Soroptimists are a society for women only so it happens on both sides of the gender issue.

I am not that bothered, just referring to the amount of times doing something with a chicken has been referenced on here without actually saying what it entailed ;)
I think its like this (SFW - especially if you are a chef in IKEA)

I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Linked In - Not very secret
FM - mmm very secret - so not the same thing at all

I will agree the Old Boy's Network is nearly as bad but is less bad as it has no formal structure (well apart from the whole establishment)

Never heard of them. Is that the female version of the Masons?

Looking at their website it looks more like an organisation for encouraging female education and women's rights in developing countries than a networking organisation for business women.

I would find that extremely strange and offensive. Couples shouldn't be FORCED to have secrets from each other by an outside organisation (of course we all have a few secrets by choice, I find that different).

I disagree. Plenty of organisations "force" couples to have secrets. There are a few jobs out there, with which partners can't go home and discuss their day at work, say who they've seen, what they've done and all that.

So they are being forced to but it is understandable.

Joining the FM's is a choice. He's not being forced to keep secrets. It's a hobby, which by nature had the secrety society thing. He is however still choosing to participate.
