Thats exactly was does happen - but they need to let the new area lodge know that they are there! The best approach is to contact the old lodge and let them know the new address, if you don't have their details then you can contact the provincial office in the new area, or if you don't know who that is then contact grand lodge directly at https://www.ugle.org.uk.

Round our way there are a couple of daytime clubs for elderly brethren and widows that have been set up recently - there may be one local to you.

Oh, its not relevant now to me ;) my grandparents are both dead.

Ironically it sounds like it would have been an option my father who is now separated from my mother and in a new area and lonely at times. but hated the free masons and resigned (sorry don't know correct terminology) the week his father died.

That's a shame. However the door is always open.
  • Okay, can't be arrised reading all the way through, but this is something my dad used to say:

The Freemasons is a society of secrets, not a secret society.

Now, the Carlyle Group, that's verging on a secret society :)

Moths -that's exactly what my OH says about the freemasons as well.

Ime if a freemason (or their partner) falls ill then the phone is ringing off the hook with offers of help

Isnt it sort of like the local 'rugby club'? women do the teas and are on the periphery? I hated that. I understand what its like to be 'excluded' and patted on the head and be thrown 'crumbs'. Secret associations which he cant talk about? that's worse than blow by blow accounts of rugby matches! I am tempted to say join the local WI! I bet its full of wives of Freemasons! and you can have your own little secrets!
and the Freemasons are long known for associations which cant be mentioned.

Actually that couldn't be further from the truth in my experience.....I've always been treated with courtesy by the lodge members.

As for 'things he can't talk about' I think its a case of what sort of lodge it is - yes there are lodges around where the members are up their own a***s but, again ime, there are lodges where the members are simply there to have a good evening out.

Mind you it can't be that secret if you can get 'tours' of the lodge ....yeap OH knows how to show a girl a good time lol!

Although quite how a secret society and have a website, organize free guided tours of its head office, and let Lilly Allen shoot a music video in the toilets is hardly a secret society.

Not to mention the 'head office' being used in numerous tv programmes.....and nearly every masonic hall having big signs stating that its a masonic hall

tours of the lodge? but have you attended an actual 'meeting'? NO?
    or you Errata?
by now they have learned to 'hide in plain sight'.

you will NOT get any member to say what happens in meetings. or have I missed something here? any member posted whats happening in meetings?

No but there again I'm not a member.

Mind you from what OH tells me, the hardest part of the meeting is trying to stay awake - so on that basis give me the remote control and being in charge of the tv any day of the week
