Eighth Anniversary Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver!
    Hi all,

Doing night shift but on a lunch break managed to book a few extra days OT over the next few weeks :-) so should be able to make a dent in CC debt soon and start thinking about the school uniform.

I got one wash load done today
I sent my form for a refund off today
I didn't do the hubby's car insurance fully got it down to £489 for the year. I'm going to pay for this on CC in one lump sum and pay it off on payday before a new months interest goes on.

Other half didn't take anything out of the porch for me will do it myself tomorrow. He did find a new karting place and booked it for me though and put some diesel in the car for me because it was his day off today and used my car to run around in.

NSD day today which is good.

Tomorrow I have an appt at a laser eye surgery clinic I booked this during my mse lapse. So I will go as will lose deposit if i don't turn up. But it's something I will postpone doing until I have the money.

My other things to do tomorrow include collecting the storage tubs I ordered the other day.
    Three wash loads.
Open kids bank accounts (tried before but didn't send the paperwork)
    Clear the porch
Hoover all spiderwebs and dustwebs from coving
    Buy DS birthday present

That's it folks my hopeful list....

    :So far today.....

I have been to eye appt. drum roll please ............I'm suitable for treatment :j cost is a deposit of £200 then £89 per month for 24 months. I've worn glasses for over 20 years this is the best news ever!!! :j I Occasionally wear contacts but to be able to wake up and see would be the best thing ever :-)

Ladies and gentlemen we have a new goal brewing.........

I'm going to clear my CC then go for the treatment.

    OR (the big or)

Because I've paid for my car insurance for the year I could rationalise that the payment for the eye treatment is what I would be paying for my car insurance so I would be no worse off in monthly expenditure really. I do have the option to clear this with overpayments and it's 0% interest.

So I'm after advice please, because I'm so excited I can't think straight.

  • Morning hon

That's great news but a tricky dilemma! I think you need to consider the following before you decide which option to take:

    1) According to your figures you only have 127.48 a month after you've paid your debts. If you now pay £89 a month to have new eyes that leaves you 38.48 a month. Is that enough or will you be reverting back to cc?

    2) Paying 150 a month on 2170 for your cc means theoretically you should be cleared in about 15 months. Which isn't that long. Unless you want new eyes!

    3) Would you be able to defer payment or put the treatment off until say the new year? In this time throw everything you can at your cc and then do another expenditure list to see if you can afford it.

    4) If you defer until the new year can you car boot some of the stuff that you mention you need to clear out? Put this towards your eyes?

    5) Yes you've already paid the car insurance but that doesn't mean you still have the money sitting there. It's already gone. Plus you have the other car insurance to pay for too.

It's really hard because if it was me I'd be saying to hell with it and go for it but it would be awful to read on here in a few months that although you can see first thing in the morning you have no money whatsoever.

No-one can make the decision for you and if you go for it then obviously we'll all be chuffed for you but if you decide to wait then again, we'll all be there for you.

Good luck with your decision. I don't envy you whatsoever!!

Have a nice day :) xx

    Hiya Sassy,

Thank you for the reality check I get caught in the moment sometimes and think to hell with it I can do it. Which is why I'm in debt in the first place.

I even started to think the cost is the same as one extra OT shift a month in theory.

I have spent the past couple of days reading diaries to get my head in the right place......

My first mistake is I only see my CC as my only debt once it clears I always class myself as debt free. Big mistake so again my debt:

CC - this months new statement = Balance £2299.91
Car finance -£22,950 left to pay £21,747.14
    Bursary - £246
Student loan - £6683.41 (I'm including this as will be deducted from my wages when they finally get their act together with payroll.)

    Total debt £30,976.46 and not £2,229.91 I've convinced myself I had.

I can't see an emotion with a feel sick sign, talk about denial.......real LBM moment part 3 has occurred. Let's forget the post about eye treatment that can be my debt free treat.:shocked::embarasse

Okay so in interest rate order the pay off order will be:
(Bursary not on list as only two months left)

    CC high APR
    Car finance 8.7% APR
    Student loan 1.5%
    Save for house deposit
    Save for eye treatment

The order of the last two may change.

Sassy thanks for your post I did do a car boot not long ago got £47 the clutter I'm clearing is stuff not saleable mostly junk OH has held onto. I kid you not I have taken at least 8 huge cardboard boxes to the recycling tip point. Some boxes were from flat pack from sons new bed etc. some boxes were lying the porch the others in the garage Or carp left over from expos he goes to and he keeps all the literature they give him. A lot of it no longer relevant.

Good news though yesterday i went to a hen party and one of my friends was meant to be staying over so on Thursday night I mentioned to my husband that the porch is embarrassing and he cleared it all out. It looks beautiful now :D :j

Spends yesterday £18 for the meal and £2.50 on a drink, I was designated driver so I drank loads of water at the meal, the the restaurant turns into a club but at the point the girls I drove wanted to go home. I was gutted so I dropped them home and went back to the club and danced the night away and treated myself to a coke. I got fuel money from the girls so I didn't lose to much by driving back. Lesson learnt never offer to drive anyone again. Chuffed with how much I spent as it was a set menu price so couldn't have done any cheaper with the cost but proud for drinking the table water.

I'm off to make some more 1% charts.....and let reality sink in..

  • Hey hon

Ouch! That is a reality check with a punch and I don't envy you one bit. I think having the treatment as a debt free treat is a fab idea as it will help keep you focused.

I know what you mean with designated driving. I don't drink so I'm always the driver which is fine with me but there's been many times I've wanted to leave and my friends haven't so I've stayed out longer. It's a pain in the rear but something to deal with. Table water is usually my beverage of choice too so it's nice to know I'm not the only one!

Have a great weekend! :) xx

My SOA has been wrong this month for diesel I've spent £100 in three weeks already and the light has come on today. I know I have been out for a few nights out so that could be the reason, going to start walking more to places which are closer to see if I can get this lower.

Better get going to collect girls from dance it's 10 min in the car will take me at least 30 min to walk. Gotta go :-)

Thanks mum2 one. Las Vegas sounds lovely I may join you with my 20:20 vision. ;-)

I've spent £10 in diesel today was at work and made a very pitiful PAD and a small donation to my sealed pot.

The site I used for my sons voucher have got back to me full refund within 5 days.

No other news to report got two short days of OT coming up. Should get a about £150 for them hoping to throw at least £100 to Debt.

Over the past few evenings I have joined a few challenges to help reach my goals:

    1) The 1debt vs 100 days challenge
(CC will be the focus for this)

    2) The sealed pot challenge -ends November
(will use as lump sum payment towards a debt I'm working at the time should be the car hopefully by then.)

    3) The payment a day challenge
(At the moment CC is the focus, this will help me achieve goal number 1. the little bits at a time will make a difference. I've set myself a minimum allowed is a pound.)

    4) 1% challenge keeps me motivated, PADs can't be counted in this only full 1% payments eg. 1% of CC I have rounded up to £23.
