I did suggest I may do that to warn other buyers and now some wouldn't want to trade with me. Obviously got something to hide, maybe they're playing the system too.
Thanks for your informative and unbiased response, shame others couldn't have responded in the same way.
It's because some mark as dispatch when they know they won't get sorted straight away (so posted Saturday) or they will be going the next morning. So they felt by your original post that you'd give negative feedback which would be unfair as they either had actually dispatched or they knew for sure it would be dispatched within 24 hours.
There is, of course, nothing wrong with that as the sellers are clearly getting items out asap.
Personally I only mark as dispatched once I've posted them but I understand why business sellers may do it just before.0 -
If sellers are not given 5 stars for dispatch time automatically, I'm not sure what this whole thread is all about. Does the OP want to mark the seller down on everything just because the dispatch time was late?0

OP did state communication so that explains that for the 5*.
Is it dispatch time though or is it postage? A lot of people consider the dispatch time when marking sellers for P&P.0 -
Communication rating is for when a buyer contacts the seller and the latter never replies or even takes ages to get back to the buyer. It has nothing to do with dispatch. Not sure why the OP wants to mark the seller down on communication when no messages were exchanged at all.0

Not sure why the OP wants to mark the seller down on communication when no messages were exchanged at all.Leaving some feedback for an at best average transaction so tried to leave the seller 3 stars only to get a message saying the seller is entitled to 5 stars. What's that all about and how does eBay know they weren't poor with their delivery times and communication?
I know this has gone more on to dispatch and 5* for that, but the OP did ask what the 5* is all about and how ebay know about communication not just about dispatch.
Perhaps they felt the seller should have contacted them if there was a problem with dispatch though and therefore doesn't feel they deserve 5* for that. I dunno. Can't explain 5* only for dispatch unless it's what I said in my previous post (P&P).0 -
Sellers shouldn't mark as dispatched until it's gone into the delivery system.
I've just had a seller who marked my item as dispatched, but clearly didn't dispatch until I emailed 6 days later to let them know it hadn't arrived yet.
The clue that they were lying was that in their email they told me the had "processed" my order on Friday, which was a day after they had marked it as dispatched.
I really hate being lied to!
Saying that, it is often difficult to prove that something was posted late, in which case you have to give the seller the benefit of the doubt.
I suppose it comes down to how polite and helpful the seller is when you contact them.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I believe the earlier post has been missed- but please remember that if you use ebay or paypal postage then ebay automatically mark the item as 'despatched' when the label is printed.
When I work I print my labels in the evening and someone else drops them off next day for me, if buyers genuinely don't want their items marked as despatched until they are in the post then that will mean they wait an extra day for my goods. Personally I use to mark items as 'Despatched' the day before I posted them, simply because it was easier and I was not always online. However since I now only send items 'Recorded' so I have a tracking number I mark them as 'Sent' via Paypal the day they are posted. This means I can add a tracking number and eBay sends an automatic despatch email to the buyer. I also always leave feedback as soon as a buyer has paid. I always aim to post items either the same day or next day.
I've got 11 years of selling experience on eBay, and have very rarely ever had a problem with posting or people complaining to me. In fact I find most 2nd Class sent items arrive the next day.
I find good communication is the key with eBay buyers. If I cannot post an item out the day I have promised (and this rarely happens) I sent it as soon as possible normally 1st Class for them instead. This happened yesterday, could not make it to the PO in time, so messaged the buyer apologising and sent it 1st Class Recorded today. The buyer was not bothered in the slightest, and even said to me 'Don't bother sending it 1st Class' I already had by the time I read the message.
I also find nothing more annoying that people who cannot put there address in correct on Paypal or use all lower case letters... I always print clear UPPERCASE address labels... all takes extra time, but then I have excellent feedback and stars so it is worth making the effort.
I do find I don't sell as much now what with the eBay fees, but I always offer free P&P
My latest feedback...
