eBay stars.

Leaving some feedback for an at best average transaction so tried to leave the seller 3 stars only to get a message saying the seller is entitled to 5 stars. What's that all about and how does eBay know they weren't poor with their delivery times and communication?

If they dispatch within one day and there have been no messages between you and the buyer, they automatically get 5* for communication.

So as long as they tick dispatched the stars are automatic even if delivery takes 10 days.

It's neutral or negative from now on then.

Oh I hope you never buy an item from me! I always dispatch the day following payment, but I have no control over how long post office or courier takes to deliver.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

If they posted it when they marked it as dispatched, what do you expect the seller to do?

Did you provide the correct address, correctly formatted - I don't mean all lower case with no space between the post code. All the delivery issues I have with buyers are from buyers who are too lazy to properly write their own address.

I did provide the correct address but have no control over a post office that's open at 1930 on a Saturday have I?

So it weren't going Royal Mail until at least 0900 Monday.

Ditto. Another buyer who is too quick to give a seller the benefit of the doubt

Erm, just as you have no control over Post Offices/Royal Mail neither does the seller!!

I pop items in a post box on a Sunday morning, and mark as dispatched.

They don't get collected until Monday morning. Feel free to mark me down.

Some post offices have branches in stores and do open on Saturdays and Sundays,

Printing postage through PayPal also automatically marks the item as dispatched.

Anyway, you've made up your mind what you're going to do.
  • I have yes. ;)

This is why the star system should be got rid of or have less impact on sellers. Or there should be some kind of appeal. Peoples interpretation of how many stars differ so much.

If I buy an item but don't read the listing properly and it is not how I expected, is it okay to leave 2 stars for item as described?

If I buy an item but the colours on my computer screen aren't right and so the colour in the photo looks different to the colour of the item can I leave 1 stars for item as described?

If I buy an item 6pm Friday night but its not dispatched till Monday as they only work office hours, can I leave 2 stars for dispatch time?

I have just had my account restricted because I have too many 1 or 2 stars. Is it okay to leave 1 star for everything for an item I have just brought as I am annoyed at Ebay?
