ty.. It is only rearfacing up to 9kg and these 2 are 13Kg and 18Kg so it wouldn't be suitable. We have the Besafe Izi combi at the moment but the hinge which attaches the headrest has snapped rendering it dead for now which is why we need one asap.. just trying to persuade DD1 to watch Dot at the weekend so OH and I can go try a few out in the car.. she's not being convinced.

I tapped out a post yesterday that disappeared before I could press Post Quick Reply, but the tapping out clarified something for me. I am so tired of my office being my room of doom and constantly needing to be rescued. So, today, I started the clearing sweep it needed and, amazingly, that created enough space in my head to degibble a massive pile of carp from the attic - which makes sense to me, although it sounds a very long way around of doing it. Suffice to say, the 20 plastic-lidded storage boxes are now out of my office and up there, filled up, and all the cruddy cardboard boxes are down, flattened and ready to go to the tip tomorrow. If Morribunds has any of their medium sized storage boxes left tomorrow, I will be getting more. Once I can see what I've got up there, there is a much greater chance of it being dealt with once and for all.
Does anyone else have problems letting stuff go that their parents gave them? Both my parents are long gone, but I've never been able to let go of anything they gave me, and some of it I think they gave me just to get it out of their cellar and attic. I am feeling weighed down by it all.Better is good enough.0 -
HB My parents are still alive as are all my grandparents, but when OH died I struggled to get rid of stuff that me and OH brought together but thanks to the dehoarding thread I was able to see that I was treating the stuff as a representation of him. I didn't need the stuff to remember him, I have memories. I have one or two items that I hid from his family when they came to collect all his stuff but I like them and they are in use.
'Stuff' a person leaves behind are not their legacy but the memories and love are.0 -
Oh dear, I got distracted and ended up sorting out food cupboards and shelves
I've gathered all the baking ingredients together ready for a baking session tomorrow, and I've cleared a shelf worth of space
:rotfl: I'm going to stick some fruit in to soak tonight so I can make my nannas Christmas cake recipe as a Simnel cake
I have also juggled the freezer contents around to make room for the baking. I'll be making room in the fridge tomorrow for a jelly by using up eggs and spread.
Tonight I'm juggling washing and thats it. I currently have the cleaning cloths in to wash so that'll take most of the night up :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Aww, Honey Bear, Deco is right. It's just stuff. Maybe select a few choice items of importance to you, take digital pics of the others, then let them go. Most of DHs stuff was taken to the hospice where he died. They have a sale in the grounds every Tue/Fri and people seem to be generous with their purchases. I figured they could make more money to help fund the nursing staff than I could get on eBay after all the fees.
That said, I have kept some important things I think the children might want.
DS seems to have inherited daddy's love of trains, so I've got the hornby engines we had in the loft (DH had them as a young boy) and FIL is recreating the model railway that DH had. On the same board (still with the little drawings on that DH did for his cars, aww), same track just rebuilt with new connectors. They are going to give it to DS for his birthday next week. He will love it and we will all cry
I also kept his wedding clothes, they are in the box with my wedding dress, and a special little box with both our wedding bands and my engagement ring in the middle.
But most of his clothes, shoes, DVDs, CDs, Xbox, exercise equipment are gone. And you see I still haven't forgotten him!

Enough of my essays, kidlets in bed, DD packup done, need to retrieve my bag from the car and make my own... And get the rest of the stuff ready for morning.Bossymoo

I went to the hairdressers this afternoon after work then home to make tea, sort yet more washing, clean the kitchen worktops, wipe the units, wash the floor and generally declutter and dust the kitchen/diner. Oh and I did the cutlery drawer (great suggestion) and cleaned the wine rack.
The kitchen shelves need everything clearing off them and cleaning properly - my next kitchen will not have open shelves! Oh and I must clean the dishwasher filters but its on at the moment.
Afternoon off tomorrow, I am taking DS1 mountain biking, so stuff work and housework for a few hours! Just hope this sore throat clears up, its weird because I dont feel ill but the sore throat on a night is keeping me awake.0 -
That's beautiful Bossy *there's something in my eye now*
That's the key I think, keep the stuff you either love or has a great deal of meaning to you. I kept some bits of furniture OH made as his energy went into making it IYSWIM.
Also another thing that was helpful to me (sorry it's a bit morbid) was if I was to shuffle off this mortal coil then would I want my family to sort out all my carp? Would they not just chuck/cs it? Knowing my family my 'stuff' would end up at either so why was I keeping hold of it?
I can't remember 99% of what I gave to the CS or took down the dump, but the feeling of freedom a clear space has given me is priceless.0 -

mil is slowly asking for things to be decluttered and letting stuff go to the CS clothes etc. in a way im glad as we would end up with it all.
fil painted the most lovely paintings and i'd be happy to have those or photos but old broken things arent memorys and you arent being disloyal disposing of them.
on my to do list for this year ive got my old (probs 40+ years old) bridesmaid dress from when i was one at my aunties and uncles wedding. auntie sadly died about 10 years ago, i cant throw the dress out but this year im going to use some of the fabric to make cushion covers or panels and give one to my mum and hopefully my sister. so that will have use and look pretty and be practical rather than being a naff 70s frock in a bag. its tangerine satin just to make it sound even better;)SPC~12 ot 124

Drawn out sore throat has turned into sneezes & coughs finally, so been a sneezy day
Baby had a long sleep this morning, so kept kitchen sides clean & dishwasher loaded, wiped down kitchen cupboards - what do other people use for this? I was too fuddled to think of the best thing (wood cabinets) so used antibacterial spray & kitchen roll.
Picked DD up and took to party after buying last minute present (only invited yesterday...) home then to put washing on airer, trying to so a daily load if possible.
Kept hotspots clear & feel excited about what's to come later in the week! Lots on the list I didn't do, but this is major progress from the 'stuck' person I was turning into!

Thank you for sharing those thoughts and memories Bossy, Deco and Mrs MoneyPenny. I had a bit of a moment there, too, with leaky eyes. *snif* I hate to admit it, but some of the things up there came from my grandmother's attic, through my parents multiple attics through various housemoves and now my attic - what should a person do with the lace handmade by their great grandmother. If two earlier generations didn't know, how can I?
There are, however, some things that you've all said that will result in some things going via appropriate routes. But *fling* as the gloriously unsentimental Pigpen says - I need to let go, as this stuff is holding me back.Better is good enough.0
