Nissan Micras... especially red ones.

Its not the car its the drivers, I have driven my wifes red micra and can go at 80 with ease, passing other cars is simple on the motorway.
Being really nippy they can go very quickly in town too.
But its the drivers who dont, old or middle aged women usually and no matter what car they are in it will be slow.0 -
The problem is between the seat and the steering wheel. Nothing to do with the car.0

it must be really noisy inside the micra at anything more than 40 - probably sounds like the car is being pushed hard so drivers go so slow0

All this hate for micras !
I had a 1990 k10 as my first car..... Cool right ?
It was a red gsx 3dr, it was a fantastic car, much better than my brothers nova at the time, it was over 1200cc, had 5 gears, and an auto choke, colour coded bumpers too.
It went like the clappers for what it was...
I killed it doing rather silly speeds down reigate hill on the m25 one day, blew the head gasket.
Needless to say I repaired it and sold it on, and bought a mk3 1.4 astra... That was a hateful car.
Very fond memories of that car back in the day.0 -
Having had the misfortune to have to own several of these dodgems (was so tempted to tie a sparkler to the car aerial for the full dodgem effect) over the years I'd say that without thrashing the living daylights out of them - it was about as fast as they'd be able to go!
Anyone in the north east is likely to know Houghton Cut - I had to get the accelerator down well in advance of that hill to be able to get up there without ending up in something ridiculous like 1st or 2nd gear.
Gawd I hated those cars (but they were given to me for free so can't knock a freebie).
And yeah - they vibrated and got so noisy you'd think they were going to fall apart at anything above about 55.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I used to have to drive a new shaped micra around London on occasion. the way you get treated in them versus other cars (like mondeos, astras, zafrias or even fabias) is incredible. It's like every other road user instantly sees you as prey. I used to get mouthed off at a lot too when driving them, plenty of abuse from White Van Man for doing nothing out of the ordinary.
It was always particularly pleasing to step out of a micra and see the slow dawning of realisation spread across their face as they see the radio, then the handcuffs, then the badge, as you invite them for a quick 'word' on the roadside about their road manners.0 -
Anyone who's ever driven around the hospital in Nottingham will know there's another type of micra driver, just as !!!!!! and more dangerous than the first.
Chinese medical students. They have absolutely no concept of mirrors, give ways or doing anything other than staring straight forward and going where they're going while chaos ensues all around themYes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I swear micra's speedometers are wrong and they always say they are doing at least 10mph more than they actually are! I am so glad i'm not the only person that thinks that!!:kisses2: 01.03.2014 - Marry the man of my dreams :kisses2:

I can actually confirm this, well kind of. Have a statistically insignificant anecdote...
My first car was a Mk4 1.3 Ford Escort, my (male) friend's first car was a K10 1.0 Micra (the square shaped one before the bubble shaped noddy version)
He used to criticise me for going too fast, I'd criticise him for going too slow. We were the opposites of what gender stereotypes would suggest.
Anyway, we did a test one day the result of which was that when my speedo was reading 28mph, his was reading 33!
Given that the amount of overread allowed on a speedo is 10%+6.25 mph it's quite likely that both were in a legal range.0 -

Never come across them - and I live quite near the medical school! Used to be the local nuns who were the nightmare drivers when I was growing up - invariably four of them in a VW Polo with the assumption that since God was on their side he'd be replicating the parting of the Red Sea with the traffic in the city centre (not Nottingham btw) and driving accordingly. Blooming terrifying and we used to scatter off the roads if we saw them coming!
For the record the last dodgem of doom I owned was purple - not red. Ran on fresh air though - I could make £20 of petrol last a month!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
