Breaking Through, Travelling On

Right, I started to work on the hmrc worksheet I printed out on Friday, and nearly lost the will to live - the tax figure is in my declaration, I *think* its in there in the same way as last year, they've accepted the wear and tear declaration, so now its on to dividends and savings  which means I'm nearly done.
In celebration, I'm about to have my first cup of coffee for about a week :rotfl: so I'm definitely recovering my strength
When I've submitted the figures, I'll take a little break from accounting, and finally put in my 2015 plan :j Of course, at the moment, I've still to make the coffee, and I'm taking breaks by doing something Cheery mentioned, reading through MrMoneyMustache from the beginning, which I never have
So, life is getting better :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
MrMoneyMustache calls his dollars his employees ... I like that :rotfl:
I've also got something else for the declutter stash ... my lovely little single-cup reuseable coffee filter. I bought it maybe 25 years ago, in a tourist trap town, best kitchen purchase ever. For the last 5 years or so, I've been soaking it in vinegar every so often, as its "pores" get clogged, and I've just done it again but it hasn't made any difference. Farewell, little coffee filter, you were a great employee.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
aw, long serving coffee filter :j
I really enjoyed reading MMM from the start, although it did take rather a long time! I imagine you'll be more sensible about it than me - i lost hours at a time to it! Got me in the right mindset though and I started cycling everywhere I can this year :j Not cutting spending entirely, but certainly be more mindful of building up our stash! :j
Of course, having read all that in one go I now get really impatient waiting for the next post :rotfl:
 at your copper IUD story too  I have one of those fitted and was always surprised they don't keep track of when they fitted it but expect you to remember when it's ready for changing. My five years is up in April and fortunately I've kept track, but I can see how, especially if you had an 8 or 10 year one, you might lose track!0 -
Glad to hear you've kept track, Cheery - sounds like there are awful consequences for forgetting
Just hopped on to slightly bewail the Self Assessment ... once again, its double counting the "income" from my French apartment, and I thought I'd got it sorted. I received rent of £5119, and its showing a *profit* of £6987. Er, no! Back to the grindstone...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Good luck with your accounting - anything to do with HMRC brings me out in a cold sweat.
As I will pay no further tax this year, I can claim back any overpaid tax with a form (I think) P50.
I really should crack on with it, as it's to my advantage to get the money back.
But I understand it's a pig of a form to complete, so I haven't really looked into it much as yet.
I really MUST do something about it.... but not today!Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
I don't blame you one little bit, Goldie
I really thought I was on a winner over the weekend, that I'd got it sorted ... now, after 40 minutes to a phone number thats outside my phone plan, they have to get a technical adviser to call me. Earliest is available in a week  they call you once and thats it. The woman I spoke to did have one tip, to call just before 8am tomorrow, its fairly quiet at that time ...
I think I might just jiggle stuff around online a bit more2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've done the jiggling
Notes to self, please ignore:
And I found the place I'd double entered the income - I'd done it to get the 10% wear and tear deduction, but that can go in landlord's energy allowance apparently, without an income figure. The "reclaim this foreign tax" figure has now disappeared, and although I'd really like to reclaim it, I think the online form has disappeared up its own derriere, so to speakand unless you're paying somebody really clever, you can't do both.
The tax it now tells me to pay is half what it was originally, so its probably better this way. I'll leave off making the online payment in case I manage to speak to the bod next week - thats only the 26th, time enough for an online payment.
Blimey. How ever did I think this was a low cost way of earning passive income. Talk about not-clued-up ... ah well. Each year this saga reoccursand if someone else is forewarned about doing this, then so much the better. Buy property as an investment by all means, but don't do it abroad for your first one, not under stupid government schemes that promise safety, anyway! I don't trust our government, why should the government of another country be intrinsically more trustworthy? Doh!
Happily, none of this has been stressful :j which is nice.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Goodness its complicated.0
