Good to see you back BookWorm. Just wonder where everyone else is? Hopefully they are somewhere warm and having a good time.
As you've finished your chores, would you like to come and make a start on mine?! I've done very little today. Went to the farmers' market this morning, washed and TD a load of towels, unloaded and loaded the dishwasher, and have sorted through a shelf of clothes and thrown half of them out. (Why was I hanging on to stuff I haven't worn for yonks?) Just have the rest of the cupboards to sort through now.
Still, the (only) good thing about chores is they will always wait until another day so I think I might make a cup of tea and go and finish the book I've been reading on the kindle.

No, I'm here, too. Had an unexpected outing to have brunch with one of my work colleagues, who has been so supportive last year and this. It turned into a mammoth chat sesh, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I hope I helped her as much as she has helped me.
We've both declared (again) that we really MUST get together more often, not just when horrible things happen in life ...
Spirit - my essential oils were expensive, I think. I bought them in Morpeth yesterday at a health shop. £7.50 for 10 ml. I know I can get much cheaper on the internet BUT I don't know if the quality is there...feedback is so variable. This one, I've lit a new tealight and the scent is surrounding me again without replenishing the drops in the water. TBH, for the amount of time I usually have to use anything like this, one small bottle will last me a while (I hope!)
Bookworm - chicken curry sounds lush. What time shall we all pop round?
:rotfl:
I have ironing to do....as luck would have it, Old Boy Cat wants a snuggle so who am I to deny him...? This snuggle could last some time0 -
Here in between the daytime socialising and the evening party.
Thank goodness, my lift to tonight's party refused to let me wait around outside for her. She's coming to pick me up at my house. I'll await the latest "I can't find your house...where is it?" phonecall any minute then...:rotfl:
Furrin' food tonight (as opposed to Chinese/Italian/Indian) which is all there is available in this area that isn't British and by now Chinese/Indian/Italian almost count as British. Anything more "exotic" than that in these parts gets leapt on and is crowded, as its not available regularly:rotfl:
Am trying to keep chin-up and just as well for social stuff today. Got back from the first one and thought "Just try and think of it as suitable for a Monty Python sketch MITSTM looking at the state of your fence". Never mind a dead parrot sketch. The state of my fence after today' particularly horrendous bout of wind merits a Dead Fence Sketch. Yep...it's totally deaded and will probably be a pile of matchsticks on the ground by the end of today at this rate:(:(. Well....there's a workman who has had his eye fixed on that hoping for a wall-building job for a while now. When he turns up again next week I expect I'll find him on the doorstep calculator at the ready when he spots its latest condition.
If I thought the weather we have been having over recent weeks has been The Weather From Hell...I reckon that was the "little sister" at play there. "Big brother" of TWFH is now here and running riot in my area.:eek:0 -

No thanks re: the extra chores.
But sure come on over for dinner - I have plenty.0 -
Playing catch up again - best wishes to all doing DIY etc. & hope there have been no disasters (this is why I don't do DIY).moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »...and the lesson to be learnt for all women who think we might just try and shove furniture up and downstairs ourselves would seem to be "Buy a shewee first" :rotfl:
I have a Whiz which is great when out walking, or in dodgy loos when travelling, but I've never thought to pop it in my pocket with a bottle before furniture rearrangingSax11, sometimes it's not that I get by, what's that old saying, robbing Peter to pay Paul (my mother used that a lot!), and dealing with the more urgent/priority bills. Yes, I get very fed up with it at times and go into panic mode, but then it's a case of pulling up my big girl pants and working my way through it.
Byatt - I love that line & will use it to motivate myself when I need a good talking to (probably tomorrow as I try & do all the chores I've ignored today).
LB - hope you are OK.
I have a massive to do list but as this is my w/e without DD & DS I'm taking it easy & plan to stay in comfy thermals & PJs as I don't need to venture outside tomorrow. MSE as I don't need the heating on if I do :T. I have the ironing to do if I get really cold. If not I may leave it for another week until I'm really needing clothes...
What is everyone reading at the moment? I've just finished "Gone Girl" which I loved & am feeling a bit lost - any suggestions?& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Fence panels are all intact (breathes a sigh of relief).
I decided to go into town instead of village post office. Town one will do the photo for you and electronically send to DVLA for you. I figured if I went early, there wouldn't be a long queue at PO - hunch paid off. It was rather windy though and got blown along the street a bit. I guess I shouldn't complain since that wouldn't have happened last year (when I was 4 stone heavier).
Also had a look in the local department store at mother of the bride outfits. Nothing inspiring yet, some things are just so frumpy I found. Debenhams have a sign up saying they don't stock Occasionwear in store any longer - only on line. Pfft.
Came back and mopped the floor, hung washing on airer and generally pottered about. Sat down to start making the chemo cap and 2 bits of good luck. 1. tabbycat wanted to sit on my lap = warmth for us both and 2. noticed next-door's son seemingly moving out again :T at least he loaded his car up with his sound system, monitor and bags of clothes. Peace reigns. At least I wont 'have' to erm 'remind' him by putting my sound blaster up against his bedroom wall, that I live here and don't appreciate his noise.
LB i love the smell of essential oils in a burner or room fragrancer - it lifts the spirits doesn't it.
Feeling cold today, always do on Fast days. Only got about 7lb to go and will be able to eat normally every day soon :TMortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
JKS - I'm afraid that I didn't like Gone Girl. It was recommended to me by a friend and had good reviews but I just felt that nothing really happened until 2/3 of the way through. However, the same friend also recommended to me - Appletree Yard by Louise Doughty - and that one I did enjoy. So you never really know til you try I guess
Spirit - :T for the fence being ok and the noisy neighbour moving out. Good day all round hey?0 -
Hello everyone  - so much for my restful weekend, it starts now! :j
I spent the day in town, coffee club in the morning, then a judicious bit of gift buying for April's trip down under. I found some nice items in a jewellers which were pretty, incredibly good value, small and will be light to pack, and I'll also be taking copies of the "Sunshine on Leith" DVD for various members of my expat Scots family. One part of me says it will make them horribly homesick, but the other part says they'll enjoy it enormously regardless.:rotfl::rotfl:
Small space living: in an attempt to make it easier to keep things off the floor and off the bed, I bought three over-the-door hook racks, so I now have one in the bathroom which also has a shelf which takes spare loo rolls; the spare room one has 6 hooks for my coats and jackets, and the one in my bedroom has three double hooks, for dressing gowns of which I have *blushes* four.... two were gifts, all are fluffy and gorgeous, and I cannot bear to part with them.
LB, thanks so much for the DVD recommendations. I've noted them for future viewing. Tonight I'm watching "Lost in Austen", and tomorrow afternoon, as a reward for chores done in the morning, I'll curl up with a cat and watch "It's Complicated".
Foodwise, things are looking up and I'm getting back into slow cooking and batch cooking. Last night I lobbed a bargainous half shoulder of lamb into the slow cooker with cumin, coriander and chickpeas. I woke up at 4.15am to the most heavenly smell, switched it off and this evening lifted off the fatbergs before re-heating. Yum yum. Enough for three more meals, hopefully, if I can restrain myself.
Books - just finished "Between Silk and Cyanide", by Leo Marks. he was the head cryptographer for the agents dropped into occupied France during WW2. His memoir is beautifully written, and some of you may already know his famous code poem, "The Life That I Have". I would love to have met him.
A friend has just finished "The Rosie Project", and really enjoyed it. I find these days I read a lot of non-fiction, and also really enjoying getting back into reading poetry for enjoyment thanks to joining a U3A poetry appreciation group.
I hope everyone is warm and dry, and enjoying the weekend. If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

I think that many charities also have arrangements so that you can get help with a while and leave money for pets. The RSPCA have a foster pet scheme and will scheme. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

I think you will enjoy It's Complicated. Perfect film for your afternoon tomorrow.
Oooh The Rosie Project - I was lucky enough to get an ARC of that last year. It was pretty good. Seems to be quite popular with a lot of people too after reading the reviews online0
