You just know I am going to SO sympathise with the joiner tale....

As someone pointed out some posts back, organisation is often not a strong point of these guys is it?

Personally, I've taken to intervening and doing any "organisational" stuff I can myself on getting jobs done...

Right...cup of coffee brewing and then I can feel some more wallpaper-stripping coming on:(. Wallpaper steamers seem to temporarily stop working at regular intervals (some sorta safety cutout thing I guess?) and you have to wait for them to stop having a hissy fit (or non-hissy fit in this case) before work can recommence.

Soup is something I regard as a lunchtime meal and it takes 3 ladles worth to be a decent helping imo and it has to be wholemeal bread with it (as anything else won't be filling enough).

I tend to often grate a reasonable size chunk of cheese over the top of my bowl of it too. A bit of fat makes me feel full, to the extent that, when I've had a meal and it's one where I am wondering whether I might like some more food, I can often stop myself having that "little gap" by drinking a little bit of milk and then I'm okay until the next meal.

Re: It's Complicated. It was Meryl Streep that I enjoyed most in that movie. I used to avoid all her films like the plague until a few years back when I saw her in Devil Wears Prada and now think she's fab

Grrr for those of you having tradespeople issues. Things would be much simpler if everyone was reliable huh?
  • There's a wonderful poem, this pastiche of Kublai Khan, about what happens when you get the builders in. It's by Sebastian Faulks. Enjoy!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

    :rotfl: very good!

Well, my joiner has just rung to moan that the new door is £100 more than the original door...ah well, life's tough at times...he's going to have to learn to get organised. We've agreed he'll get the new door and stick to the original quote :T

So, a new tool to add to my box of tricks of which, until this week, crying was my only tool...using "disappointed" ...wonder what results using "disappointed" AND crying would achieve??

    :rotfl:
  • Hi Folks, haven’t posted for a while, but have been lurking.

I love Austen too, which reminds me I haven’t watched sense & sensibility for a while, ever since I watched nanny mcphee :o I’ve searched out a few films with Emma Thompson in them – I think she’s a great actress.

It’s a lovely sunny day here but I can’t get up the motivation to get out there – 6 days out of 7 I happily go about as a Singlie but sometimes I just hate Sunday’s and avoid getting caught up in the procession of families and couples out there. I may also go and rummage around the dvd cupboard.

I need a bit of advice - a close friend’s husband lost his fight against cancer this week and I was thinking of getting her a plant/shrub/flower …something that she can have in the garden that might represent the close bond they had. I know that rosemary represents remembrance but I don’t fancy that as I see it as something you chuck in with the lamb or roast pots not in remembrance of someone – any ideas?

Try 'disappointed' and 'unprofessional'. And start looking for someone else...

I hope you don't mind me coming to join. I'm in a bit of a funny position at the moment, and looking to move out of my parents' house asap. I love them to bits, but turning 28 in 3weeks and am fed up of not really having my own space. I'm not sure yet whether this moving out will end in me living alone, or finding a place with OH (if we can find somewhere that suits us both as he does still like where he lives, it's just a little small!) The difficulty arises because my job is only guaranteed until August so money could be an issue down the line.
Haven't had chance to read the whole thread yet, I'm supposed to be planning for this week so am inevitably procrastinating!

If you like Emma Thompson - a film that she starred in "the remains of the day" with Anthony Hopkins - a drama film, - filmed in a castle in Devon, about 5 miles from where we use to stay, really good gripping film.

Sorry about your friend, I would suggest a rose, as she can see it in the garden and also when in bloom cut the flowers and bring into the house.
When my parents lost their 1st daughter, they took a cutting of her fav rose from nans house and now 45yrs later the bush is still blooming xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Thanks mum2one, I have that film – I like Anthony Hopkins as well so have a quite a few, everything from Hannibal to 84 charing cross road which I love and watch repeatedly, it’s based on a true story about two people, a NY writer and a London bookseller, their love of books and how their correspondence and relationship develops over 20 years.

I did think about a rose bush for my friend, also did a bit of searching on the meaning of flowers this afternoon and honeysuckle supposedly means “close bond” so that’s something to think about. The funeral is this week so may wait until that is past then arrange to meet up for lunch and perhaps let her pick something that has significance for her.
