  • It's brilliant you have a new thread LavenderBees. I've read the last one from the start. I think it'll be interesting to "see" where we all are next Christmas (probably still moaning about all the smultz that Christmas brings and how we are all happy in out PJ's drinking wine and watching call the Midwife!) :rotfl:
Thanks for making me feel a bit more positive about getting out and about and meeting some new people ( I'm just waiting for the weather to get a bit better ;) )
  • Hmm, this has been a bit of a reminder. I've _always_ been single, in the sense of living with anyone, nor any kids (immaculate conception seeming to have gone out of fashion..).:D

I've a similar issue in that I haven't made a will. Close family are older and, to be honest, nephew and niece are pretty comfortable and have better houses than mine already. Although I'd like to leave them something it would only be a smallish proportion.

So I don't know what to do and need to give it some thought. Those of you with kids generally have the answer in front of you, but I'll be interested in various peoples' responses.

Can you send these two round to mine? How lucky are you? :T

Now there's something I hadn't thought about...HMRC and any potential impact on a beneficiary - maybe it's best to specify, half the estate rather than actual £s...? I guess a solicitor will advise on this, too. Have added it to my notes of what to ask about?

I feel I've made lots of progress tonight. Thanks to you all :T

My solicitor advised percentages and not figures of money as it makes things easier. Plus, if you leave something to someone say older, whom you actually expect to be dead before you, then there is a particular way you then have to re-portion that percentage....cant remember now how it works, but what I initially thought of doing I couldn't for some reason so had to tweek it.

    Right, off to 'bed-love'.

Glad this thread seems to be flying from the start....good job LB.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Love a cuppa. I've got cake if anyone fancies some.

Oooh I just remembered a perk of being single - you get the end piece without any arguments! Though obviously no good if the cake is round :rotfl:

Delurks and waves hello at everyone! Although for the past three years I have been in a relationship, I was single for 17 (shhh, don't tell anyone else :) ) years, so hopefully I can contribute :).

Really must sort wills for me and OH out though!

Just come across the thread and would love to join in the chatter. I've been single a long time now and I honestly don't see that status changing. The older I get the more set in my ways and unwilling to share my life with another person I get. Life does throw up it's own problems though for those of us who are single and it would be nice to chatter and get others viewpoints.

With regard to wills I think they are something that should be seen as pretty flux as life and relationships change. Currently I've left everything in the hands of the solicitor and a relative who I trust to look after any animals who may outlive me, this relative also knows the my wishes regarding a funeral. My estate to be split up between my godchildren and that relative. There are also a couple of donations to charities I support but as things go it's pretty simple.
