That's interesting what you say about grey CC as that's something that concerned me. I'll need to get a new carpet when the central heating and other bits have been done. The current carpet is mottled brown but I was thinking of grey for the next and wasn't sure that would go with brown paint.

The wall I'm thinking of is the fireplace one. I've really fallen out of love with the fireplace but having added up the pennies in the piggy bank I know that along with the other things I need doing, such as the roof and central heating there won't be enough for a new fireplace. The other things are needs and the fireplace is just a like so I'll have to learn to love the one I've got. :p

The wall is currently cream and the fireplace is mucky cream rough stone also on the same wall is dark stained wood shelving. I'm sort of thinking that if I used a dark rich colour on that wall it would maybe make the fireplace look better and bring it out a bit?? I was previously thinking of navy to go with a grey carpet but not sure how that would look with either the fireplace or dark wood.

I think grey would work fine, especially if it is on the more donkey grey tone and not a really cold/bluey one. I have a few fur rugs of these tones (and creams and whites) and they go with brown well. I think the trick is to keep it to earthy shades. I keep wanting to carpet mine(currently laminate), and would probably pick a grey of some kind as it's also very animal friendly...and I will probably always have animals.

Personally I like the sound of brown better than navy, with navy you would be stuck with what else you put in the room, browns are earthy and neutral so you can add lots of other little bits of colour and it will always look ok...and warm. Just my opinion though.............i'm not an interior designer in my spare time.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

My dog is like that, unless anyone makes a fuss of him don't bother speaking to me.
He sleeps on the bed, - he takes up 3/4 of the bed, tries to nick the quilt when I go to the loo and moans as I disturb him when I get into bed.

Our last dog was the best - he would only take to Gay men... b4 i had DD, when we use to go on holidays Sunday afternoons were mine and the dogs - up to the club for a pint down the road, pint next pub, then to the beach - ice lolly on way down - but had to be a mini milk - then another at bottom kiosk, cup of tea (for me) share piece bread and butter pudding at railway cafe - turn to come back - ice lolly from 1st stop, then back to pub, then by thiis time stop at club - but door was closed and back to the caravan.

I always use to take him for an early pint and if I needed the loo the dog would have to come with me, this one holiday I'd been talking to this bloke over a couple ngts, then next ngt got the dog again - needed the loo - this bloke said I'd hold him, - thanks but he is typical Spaniel pulls for England, you can try but I bet by the time I get to the dr your be behind me - no - went to the loo came back and the dog was lying on his back having his belly tickled - I laughed at he doesn't normally like men, when this blokes says i'm gay (already guessed) the start of a good friendship.. xx

My dog was like this too...he would squash himself inbetween me and...anybody. would guard me if I was asleep and nearly bit my brothers nose off once when he went to wake me up. Wouldn't let an ex's friend who stayed at mine occasionally even set one foot in my bedroom. Funny things aren't they....you gotta love em.

He was nice to most women (didn't see them as a threat obviously)...except thinking about it he did used to pee in a flatmates shoes all the time...he wanted her to move out.....they didn't get on....lol.

LB do take care of yourself, tummy bugs just leave you so drained for ages. Lots of self-applied TLC required, methinks!

Mum2one and Calicocat I do like the sound of your dogs, but I remember now why I had cats!!!!

Mrs Bones I've used chocolate brown with pale pink, and also with a pale lilac (material, not paint). I would agree, though, that cream or beige (or 'greige') would probably be more versatile, though the pinks or lilacs might be a possibility for accessories? Anyway, enjoy the planning stage.
Wilson the Volleyball is one of Hollywood's most loved volleyballs. His glittering career started when he became the only companion of Tom Hanks' Chuck Noland in Cast Away. Many say this is Wilson's best performance and he couldn't have given a better effort.

Has anyone ever painted a wall chocolate brown and if so what colours did you put with it?

If you're looking for something subtle and neutral, then some shades of rich cream would go well.

For something more dramatic (for example, as cushions or a throw) try turquoise-and-gold.

Hope everyone is feeling better today - and puddies too.

The weather was rotten yesterday afternoon and would you believe it, another flipping fence panel has come down! The neighbour with that fence is a builder, and he'd put a trellis on his side of my fence so i'll leave it for a bit to see if he puts it back up/replaces it.

My sitting room/dining room needs decorating really. The previous owner had gone through the whole house with magnolia. I've painted all the other rooms - and put up a wallpaper feature wall in bedroooms 1 and 2. I really don't know what colour to do it though. It's quite a big room since the 2 rooms are bashed into one iykwim. I have wine coloured curtains, rug and cushions. I guess I could do a feature wall in the 2 chimney recesses in the living room, but how to integrate this in the dining room with no recesses?

My car passed it's very first MOT yesterday. I didn't think it would fail but you never know eh. The garage seemed to find it quite funny that it'd only done 12k miles. Well I only really use it at weekends and normally then only on a Saturday to go shopping. Today is an exception since I'm off down the M4 for 2 junctions to see DD and her venue.

On the subject of wills, I looked mine out the other day. I'd made it in 2003 just after I'd bought my own house. DS and DD were both still under age then and I'd had to make provisions for their care should I have popped off before they were of age.

So it needs updating. No real changes apart from I'd like to make them both executors instead of my sisters and of couse I don't need the 'care' provision now. Don't now whether I ought to go back to the original lawyer firm (in my last city) or just get someone else locally to do it.

I got my kitchen deep red. I do also love to see shabby chic look with whites, creams and lace but I know it's not practical for me. Not with dogs and a large muddy garden :rotfl: Also this house tends to be on the cold side even when I've got more central heating working. I'd like some colour to warm it up and make it cosy like you say. I'd like to aim towards a Victorian / Edwardian feel with touches of steampunk. It's going to be a long work in progress though getting things how I'd like them.

Before decorating I skimmed through a couple of feng shui books and they recommended a touch of red to encourage passion - well I live in hope ;)

I do have small touches of Victorian/Edwardian fashions, crochet/lace doilies, embroidered runners and tray cloths, all of which belonged to or were made by my grandmothers. I wasn’t sure either what “steampunk” was but a quick g00gle gave me some ideas – don’t know if I would go as far as the corsets though – I haven’t yet decided on the pictures to put up but this has given me some ideas.

On a visit to NZ a couple of years ago I visited Napier, reputed to be the art deco capital of the world, and bought some prints with the intention of getting them framed and hung up – put them somewhere safe and now can’t find them :o

Looks-like the rotten weather you all had yesterday has moved north, it’s really miserable, dark, wet and windy here, so planning to get my chores done this morning, a bit of baking – Victoria sponge I think, then may treat myself to afternoon tea – using the good china – ah….simple pleasures :)

Old-Boy-Cat slept very well on my chest all night . I woke with a bad back as couldn't move .... It's me who feels pretty yuk today. I've been in contact the last few days with people who have a sickness and diahorrea bug....feeling a bit sickly today....really really hoping it isn't going to be what I think it might be. Am going to go back to bed for an hour...It may just be reaction to the last few days....
Or maybe you've caught something off the cat.

Didn't the major earthquake decades ago put paid to that?

A lot of buildings in the centre were destroyed but they re-built in the same style.

    Afternoon everyone.

Not very nice weather out there.

I've cleared out one of the big cupboards in the kitchen today. The one that houses all the decorating stuff paint and tools. Some stuff gone into a very handy skip in the street. Other stuff been boxed and put upstairs. I didn't want to leave it till the last minute then get a phone call saying they were coming to do the kitchen.

Been moving a bit money around too as seeing rumours about the HSBC bank.

Have made some quick broth for through the week. Nice to have when I get in from work.

Ninja cat made me laugh this morning. He was lying on his back with his paws on the bedroom radiator. No doubt warming his bits.

    Take care everyone.
