Hoping everyone is keeping safe and warm. It's been atrocious weather here this afternoon and shows no signs of improving yet. I felt really sorry for the dog next door as I could hear the poor thing howling his head of during the big thunder storm we'd had and I knew his folks had gone out. I just wanted to go and cuddle him as I know he hates thunder. My dog was just sat in the window watching the storm, he'd have gone out in it if I'd have let him, crazy fool he is.

The weather is awful here too Mrs Bones, I'm in the deep south west. Rain, rain, rain...wind...rain, rain, rain...:cool:
I've never painted anything chocolate, I would think creams would go well though.
My Polo-cat is a strong on the outside, independent chappie, acts like he can take me or leave me, but when I leave he often sits on the sofa by the window waiting for me to come home, and he's overjoyed for 10 seconds and then yells at me to feed him, he likes his meals on the table at regular times. :rotfl:0 -
Vile weather here too, it has been lashing it down as they say in the north all day just about.
Finishing painting Barbie room by saturday has been an epic fail....to be perfectly frank I just wasn't in the mood with the weather being so gloomy, so had a cook-off instead once I finally got up, and watched some recorded programmes. Freezer is now back to bursting....but used up all my fridge food, so no waste, and a bit more dosh in the saving pot as managed to stick to a no food spend week.
I haven't painted a wall dark brown, but where I am now the 'feature wallpaper' wall has dark brown in it. Creams, and donkey grey/brown go with it....in various different shades..plus grey if not a blue-grey.
If you wanted to put colours with it in soft furnishings I guess a lot of colours would go as brown is earthy and neutral.
I used to have my old kitchen cappuccino brown and that always felt nice and warm. How big is the wall you are thinking of doing and where Mrs Bones?
I would also only do a dark colour in matt...personally.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Hi Folks, been a rather nice day here after a damp start nice winter sunshine, I've just spent a couple of hours catching up on all the posts - it does move fast.
LavenderBees – so glad to hear the old boy is back home, feeling better and having a settling influence on the young boy.
Mrs Bones - In one of the bedrooms the wallpaper I used on one wall was a mixture of Choc Brown, Coffee & Cream and I painted the rest of the room with a sort of light cinnamon colour - made it feel nice and warm compared to the off-white it was before.My bathroom tiles are chipped and I'm thinking of vinyl, good to hear it's been a plus for you. Does it stand up to heels though?
The vinyl tiles I put in my bathroom are not the spongy type and do seem as though they would stand up to heels – but having new carpets down I don’t tend to wear shoes in the house and most visitors have been respectful and removed theirs without being asked :cool:groatie_queen wrote: »

One of mine is visiting a heavenly wee loch not far from home with a flask of tea. If it's nice I'll go for a walk, if not it's a picnic in the car. Another is phoning friends. A hot bath. Listening to music.
My biggest reward is usually achieving what I set out to do, really - satisfaction is a great feeling. But we all need wee pick-me-ups from time to time, especially as singlies with no one else at home to cheerlead for us!
Like others a treat for me is being by the sea – my particular favourite is a rocky cove around the area my dad grew up and where, as children, we spent many a family picnic. There have been changes to the area over the years with a couple of large houses build but this seems to work to my benefit as some people don’t seem to be aware of the ‘right of way’ down the track to the beach. There were many days last summer that I had the place to myself for hours - flask of tea, a good book, personal stereo (often drowned out by the calls of the seabirds) and no mobile phone reception :j
I do enjoy and treat myself to a cup of tea from the good china, a glass of wine in the posh glasses, sometimes even put an embroidered tablecloth on the table for dinner when I've cooked something special.
Someone mentioned taking photos more often, this is something I really should start doing - I wish I had taken before and after snaps of work I've done around the house.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

The joiner for my porch rang me this afternoon, to say my new back door won't be available for at least another 2 weeks. He's had this job on his books since late August, so to say I'm not impressed is an understatement. :mad: Told him so... and now he's not happy with me...get over it mate! You've ballsed up... :mad: And he woke me up, which is never forgivable :rotfl:
Re decorating, I'm always impressed when people use strong colours somewhere but it never seems to work for me. Though I haven't tried in years...maybe I should be braver. It's usually only a tin of paint after all, and can be painted over easily enough.
As I'm starting to talk about how I can possibly swing it to retire much earlier than the state retirement age, a friend has sent me a link to this site - http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/... I can see me spending quite a few hours reading this blog....Trouble is that this wanting to retire early is entirely contradictory to my wanting to do up my wee house and have lots of holidays

That's interesting what you say about grey CC as that's something that concerned me. I'll need to get a new carpet when the central heating and other bits have been done. The current carpet is mottled brown but I was thinking of grey for the next and wasn't sure that would go with brown paint.
The wall I'm thinking of is the fireplace one. I've really fallen out of love with the fireplace but having added up the pennies in the piggy bank I know that along with the other things I need doing, such as the roof and central heating there won't be enough for a new fireplace. The other things are needs and the fireplace is just a like so I'll have to learn to love the one I've got.
The wall is currently cream and the fireplace is mucky cream rough stone also on the same wall is dark stained wood shelving. I'm sort of thinking that if I used a dark rich colour on that wall it would maybe make the fireplace look better and bring it out a bit?? I know a joiner like that - cant seem to plan any further forward than his next meal - dont get me started, asked him ages ago about blocking off my fireplace.....waiting......still waiting...:mad:
I decided to be a bit bolder with colour, before Christmas I did a feature wall in my sitting room background colour is red with large off-white and black flowers, curtains either end of the room are also red, and a neutral colour on the rest of the walls. Large items of old-fashioned dark brown furniture (as old if not older than I am) - red scatter cushions on brown leather suite, overall effect is very cosy, warm and welcoming IMO, not everybody's taste - but I'm the one who has to live with it and I'm very happyJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

That sounds lovely N2B I love rich colours, I got my kitchen deep red. I do also love to see shabby chic look with whites, creams and lace but I know it's not practical for me. Not with dogs and a large muddy garden :rotfl: Also this house tends to be on the cold side even when I've got more central heating working. I'd like some colour to warm it up and make it cosy like you say. I'd like to aim towards a Victorian / Edwardian feel with touches of steampunk. Mine would be the stalker jealous type, who always wants to know where you are, and has a fight with anyone who he thinks is muscling in on his girl.
My dog is like that, unless anyone makes a fuss of him don't bother speaking to me.
He sleeps on the bed, - he takes up 3/4 of the bed, tries to nick the quilt when I go to the loo and moans as I disturb him when I get into bed.
Our last dog was the best - he would only take to Gay men... b4 i had DD, when we use to go on holidays Sunday afternoons were mine and the dogs - up to the club for a pint down the road, pint next pub, then to the beach - ice lolly on way down - but had to be a mini milk - then another at bottom kiosk, cup of tea (for me) share piece bread and butter pudding at railway cafe - turn to come back - ice lolly from 1st stop, then back to pub, then by thiis time stop at club - but door was closed and back to the caravan.
I always use to take him for an early pint and if I needed the loo the dog would have to come with me, this one holiday I'd been talking to this bloke over a couple ngts, then next ngt got the dog again - needed the loo - this bloke said I'd hold him, - thanks but he is typical Spaniel pulls for England, you can try but I bet by the time I get to the dr your be behind me - no - went to the loo came back and the dog was lying on his back having his belly tickled - I laughed at he doesn't normally like men, when this blokes says i'm gay (already guessed) the start of a good friendship.. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
