Sorry to hear you are still lurgy-fied Byatt

Thinking about the going places solo thing - I do seem to find it easier being alone somewhere I don't know anyone - such as travelling for work and eating alone somewhere, etc......whereas if I am somewhere that I may bump into someone I know, I can find that more stressful...daft I know! :rotfl:

Byatt and JKS, hope you're both soon feeling better.

I've seen a few photos of the wedding tonight, looks like it was a fabulous day.
Byatt, that was brave, going to a wedding where you only knew the couple, I'm not surprised it turned out to be hell though :(

(I sometimes think being able to really be invisible for a while would be quite nice :rotfl:)

I've been to a few weddings and other family dos on my own, but I've always known some people there. This wedding, I would have known the bride's parents, one other couple, and a few of the young people, so not many.
I still feel a wimp that I couldn't manage the travelling though!

The ceremony was in a city centre (so easy on a train, but beyond me in a car), and the reception was in the countryside (so impossible on a train, and dependent on a car).

What I really needed was a confident driver...perhaps we should keep a chauffeur in the cupboard as well? :rotfl:

My lack of action has caught up with me...you can only procrastinate for so long! Joiner is coming tomorrow, so I've spent the weekend trying to get as much done as possible. of course it's not all done, but I'll do some more painting tonight.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

Ellie, I thought how bad can it be? to add insult to injury, the outfit I wore was a sea of colour against a monochrome theme...obviously I wasn't in touch with the latest fashion!

I didn't go to the hen do because I couldn't afford both...

I must admit I'm ok on my own for the most part, except for very local events where I don't want others to think I'm a sad sack cause I'm on my own.

I think I've told you all about the excruciatingly embarrassing time at Cardiff castle banquet...:o:D:p:D:eek:

BookWorm, did you get your bidding frenzy?

I feel worn out, and I haven't actually done anything all day!
It's tiring work supervising tradesmen :), and so lovely to know that whatever problem crops up, they'll fix it.

I have a new cooker, it's so clean I don't want to get it dirty so I'm not cooking any tea :rotfl:

Hi Ellie - Sort of....I've made a few quid anyway as well as de-cluttering some bits and bobs :D

:j for the new cooker. I still like looking at mine after 9 months of it being here :p

Busy few days of travel ahead (work travel) so heading to bed shortly. So rock and roll eh :rotfl: Have a good week all

Well done with the selling BW :T Was planning on an early night but decided to download a new audiobook which is taking forever - just checked & its 65 hours long . Its probably the largest collection of short stories ever to be published & I think I'll be listening to it for years (if it all fits on my MP3) :rotfl:

My menu planning hasn't really worked today :( I was given a menu planning calendar with 52 different weeks where you're supposed to fill in what you'll eat on which day.... Managed to fill in Monday's slot yesterday, but didn't get around to doing the rest of the week as I'd planned to finish it off today - except I had to take DD to A&E as she damaged her hand (all fine, just a sprain) which is a 30 minute walk each way. On the way up I realised I'd forgotten to take the chicken out of the freezer :o then it took so long that we got emergency pizza for tea (at great expense but it was gone 7 by then)

Don't think I'm cut out for all this menu planning shenanigans :rotfl:

I could do with a reliable tradesman - my shower hose fell off the whatever its stuck to & the water just gushes out now - think its corroded & part of it is still in there as I can't how it attaches, so its an emergency dash to the DIY store to get one of those hoses that fits onto taps, then calling plumbers. I hope they can fix it without having to change the shower as I'm worried some of the bathroom tiles may need replacing (& they're no longer made). Its about 12 years old & its lasted well in a horribly hard water area, so cant mither too much - I'd just like someone else to sort it all out for me...

What, no volunteers - guess it'll be me sorting it out then :rotfl:
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Jks, well once upon a time...and apologies to those who have heard this before...I went on a trip to Cardiff for a few days, on my own, to celebrate end of uni...decided in my wisdom, that I wanted to do the Castle Banquet, booked my ticket and went...full of optimism and stuff...how hard could t be to join in the 'entertainment' sitting at a table on my own...? :p

I pootle in...seconds later two, yes two coach loads of tourists turn up, mostly American and Canadian, a few Aussies and some Welsh...we are all packed into a room and I'm imbibing the mead they had given us as I look around nonchalantly...then a guy comes in and shouts...where is Byatt...(obviously he didn't say Byatt...). I ignored him...Ladies and gentleman, we have Byatt here who is On Her Own...please make her welcome. You couldn't miss me by then, I was the bright red, embarrassed loner...:o

Then off we go to the dining room...no single table...just long tables...I'm attached to the end of one alongside the other Welsh people. I lost my courage and made up a story about a friend being ill...

The banquet was awful...the food not fit for purpose.:(

And then on leaving, congratulating myself on actually surviving, I was behind two ladies who had been sitting next to, and heard one say, 'I really felt sorry for that young lady...' I was mortified...later wishing I had stopped her and said, there's no need to feel sorry for me...I didn't need a Coach load of people to turn up...but I didn't. Just slunk back to my hotel. The whole euphoria thing wiped out by those simple words.

Having said that...she did say 'young' ...silver lining and all that...:p

Look on the bright side JKS...at least you're on holiday and can be home to see the plumber :)

I think there may be a scrap over who gets first dibs on the chauffeur in the cupboard :rotfl:

A menu planning calendar is my idea of hell...some weeks I know what we're having for a few days, other times it's like today...when DS2 came home from work, I stopped what I was doing and searched in the freezer for something quick...have christened the new cooker :)

Oh my goodness Byatt, I'm sort of speechless reading your tale

Blimey Byatt, I'm glad you could take anything positive from that - what a horrible experience. People, eh :wall: Hope you're feeling a bit better now & your lurgy is passing.

Yep, the menu planner is not going well here. Nor have I had much spare time to get a plumber round - DD (always DD ;)) has taken up so much time this week I don't know how I'd have found time to go to work :rotfl: So still no shower here yet :( & lots of cash spent on eating while dashing around.

Not really sure where the first week of my holiday went either, although I was only awake for about 4 hours of Saturday but all that sleeping has helped me get over the lurgy so I'm relieved.

Hope all are doing well & hugs to all who need one.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    Happy Friday everyone :)

I went to the hairdressers this week, not happy now!
A couple of months ago I went from long to short hair, and really liked it. Went back for a trim to tidy it up, and it's MUCH shorter!
Why can you never get the same haircut twice from the hairdresser?

Every time I look in the mirror my heart sinks, am praying for it to grow fast.
Last week I was reading comments on the "frump to fab" thread about older women who look like clones and have given up, all with "short back and sides" hair, and how only seriously beautiful people can pull off a short haircut  well, that's not me then!
I find it depressing to think that I could be being judged like that whenever I step out the door :(

I think there's a fine line between an "elfin" cut and a short back and sides, and I'm not sure I'm on the right side of that line :rotfl:

If I get some peace at home, I think I'll dye it...prepare for more moaning if that goes wrong as well :rotfl:
