  • Glad to hear your holiday went well LB (apart from the chicken related problems :() & hope it isn't too painful going back to work next week. Holidays always go far too fast, don't they?

Ellie, that puppy is lovely - so cute. I've never wanted a dog, but I do love to fuss other peoples' dogs. A bit like babies - love a cuddle but wouldn't want one for more than half an hour :rotfl: Sounds like you've got it right with lots of dog sitting, but no vet or kennel fees :T

Mum2one - did think of you when all the vile news broke about Tunisia. Was it a resort that you'd ever stayed at? A couple from a nearby town were included in some of the dead - I didn't know them but do know another couple who knew them & they're shocked & devastated. The world is going mad :(

Life continues to be a bit rubbish here with DD & school issues. She has been removed from her registration class for disrespect & rudeness, & has been threatened with not being allowed to sit some of her GCSEs (yep, she's really upset about that one - what were school thinking when they said that to her? Two less GCSE exams & coursework is a victory to her as far as she can see).

She is so desperate to leave & can't face the thought of another year at school she'd even consider being home educated :rotfl:

but I don't have the strength for that just now :D

The good news is that provided she can get enough GCSEs to get into college & study something she's interested in, she's said she'll work hard & I believe her as she spends ages doing drama & English - just think year 11 is going to be spectacularly bumpy

Nothing else exciting to report - haven't been able to find any new shorts that fit, so the general public will be spared the sight of my legs. Does anyone else find that their usual size is just too small (or even quite a bit too small) but the next size up is a lot bigger? I'm usually a 16 if I want to be comfortable but recently they haven't been very comfortable:D ; I can fit into a 14 but it isn't pretty even if all the buttons will do up, but size 18 on me just looks far too big - the top will end up with me flashing cleavage, the shoulders will slip off my shoulders, the waist will need a belt &/or hoiking up & it all looks terrible :(

Not sure if I should be eating up to my next size, as my plan to get into my 16's comfortably isn't working - must be all that ice cream...

Hope all are enjoying the sun & tennis.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    Good Morning! :hello:

I'm back from my travels...had a busy but lovely week touring around Tuscany  .. so I guess I should have said Buongiorno :p It was my first time to Italy and I loved it as much as I hoped I would. Seeing some more of the country will definitely be on the agenda for the future me thinks. I've eaten what could proably be described as my own body weight in gelato :rotfl:but it was worth it :D

Hope everyone is doing ok...I need to catch up and see what I've missed

    BW :)

    JKS

hello again. On the issues with DD, I wonder if she knows what she might like to do after school and college etc? If so, is there any chance of her arranging either some work experience/ shadowing/part time summer work in the industry? It's just if she can better see the end game it might. Be easier to tolerate school. Remember it's only really two terms and a few weeks then she will be on study leave. It's likely she will need a min number of GCSEs for college so reducing number of GCSEs may be a bonus/ put more pressure on other subjects depending. The work experience will demonstrate that rudeness etc will not get her very far in any career.

I'm sorry she is proving such a challenge. For what it's worth it's not uncommon and it normally works itself out with time :(

    Bexster :)

LB - good to hear you've had a lovely week off :T The various activities sound great. Did you find your sunglasses btw?

Sorry to hear about poor Coco - that's so sad :( At least she wouldn't have suffered since it was so quick. I know it's little comfort but hopefully it's something

Well done on the foster reviewer being happy with you. What's the next step with that?

JKS - sorry to hear you are still having a tough time with your daughter. I can't offer any advice but feel free to come in and vent - happy to listen any time.

    Have your sunglasses turned up?

Ellie - OMG what a gorgeous puppy! I love dogs and so wish that I could have my own. Sadly with FT work it's not just possible right now. I did look into doggy day care but it's almost as much (if not more) than child care  Can we live vicariously through your DS's puppy for now please? :D

I thought the alternative wedding gift list was a cool idea. I've never heard of that before. I'm sure the water will be much appreciated

I think that's me caught up..but soz if there is anything I have missed

    BW :)

    Hiya

Good to hear you've had a fab time in Italy. If I spoke the language and could support myself, I would move there. But I can't, so I won't :rotfl:

Not had time to look for sunglasses. :(. Have managed without them, but really hope they turn up when not looking.

Re Coco, I'm sorry to disillusion you, but the reason I had her pts so quickly was precisely because she WAS suffering and very badly - in lots of pain (as you would be if an egg was broken inside you and had infected you completely) and suffocating on the resulting fluid in her lungs. Sorry to be graphic, but I don't want anyone to think I did this as an easy option for me, or that Coco had any options at all. Yes, it happened quickly, but I am beating myself up that I didn't recognise it and deal with it on the Saturday evening, so my poor Coco did suffer longer than I feel she should have (though I know too many chicken owners who would have left her to die a very miserable death :(). Still, experience hopefully means I will know it if it happens again. The only consolation I have is that she had a wonderful chicken life for 14 months. Many chooks don't, unfortunately.

Foster review? Some loose ends for the social worker to tie up, and then it's panel review . Me sitting in front of 8 to 12 experts...trying to look reasonable sane and emotionally stable, not to mention mature :rotfl:

    I feel sick... :rotfl:

Work tomorrow...got a horrible sinking feeling...but better get washed up as Humans is on soon

    LB xx

:( That's sad to hear that some people would leave a chicken suffering. I'm sure that you did all you could and having seen the pics you posted when you got them, I'm sure she would have had a lovely 14 months with you and your other girls. As you say, I hope you can try and take consolation from that.

BookWorm, that sounds like a lovely holiday :)

I have the house to myself for a few days...

I can have salad for tea without having to make a different meal as well (and having caught sight of myself in a mirror sitting down today...boy, do I need to have salad for tea! Sitting down is so much worse than standing up! I can no longer tell myself that I haven't put much weight on :()

And the bits of the house I've tidied up are staying tidy :)

Looking forward to a peaceful night's sleep, and not being woken up by a wandering DS.

Have a lovely jug of old fashioned roses from my garden on the mantlepiece. My garden is still a bit overgrown, but it does smell lovely just now.

Hope those of you doing "first day back to work" have had a good day.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

Hi Ellie - it really was :) It's a fabulous place

I sympathise on the weight thing and seeing yourself. It was a picture at chrimbo time that did it for me. I knew deep down before then but it really bought it home. That's why I have been trying to eat better and move more this year. I have need to get back to it though as I def gained a few lbs whilst I was away :o

    Enjoy your peaceful house :)

My day was actually not too bad (hope that doesn't jinx it for tomorrow :rotfl:). I am pretty tired though. Why it is first day back is also so exhausting?

    Have a nice evening all
