    Xmas Saver!
DD enroute home, we've been told apr 10pm. I'm writing a letter to school to find out what happened and what plan are being put in place, on one hand it could be a mountain out of a molehill but then the otherside of the coin it could have been a peado and wam bam and the situ a lot worse.

Had my first of the ebay listings and sold 5/20 things, - best thing was dads speedo's got £20 for both pairs so he's happy.

    xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

    £20 for Speedos?!? :T

I, too, have lost my prescription sunglasses, have turned the house upside down (literally the last few weeks) and no sign. Luckily, there is no sign of the sun here, and it's nearly C....mas, so I should be ok for this year :rotfl:

My fostering social worker has told me that any school problems need to be dealt with by the school not by home, too... not sure I agree on that one. If I was in trouble at school, I was automatically in trouble at home.

I have a zombie apocolypse tomorrow morning. If you don't hear from me, know I have enjoyed your company. :rotfl:

You mean you're not all expecting a zombie apocolypse? Just me, then

    :rotfl:

It's National Women in Engineering Day today (aim to enourage girls to think of engineering as a career), and my company have 45 12 to 15 year olds (x 3, so well over 100 kids ) coming to sample engineering type exercises...all with a theme of trying to avoid the zombies.

Actually, thinking about it...it's not the zombies I'm afraid of, really.

As for LMMM, even she would struggle to wander off with my sunglasses...she would give them a bloomin good nibble though :rotfl: Trouble is, I can't remember the last time I had them...

Well, I'd better drag myself in...wish me luck...

Flying visit this morning to say hi... I had a super busy day yesterday and ending up falling asleep on the sofa last night :o

Synonymous - welcome to the thread. I can't offer any advice about wills....as I have't done one myself...(yet)....I can see you have had some good points and tips from the others already too

JKS & LB - I wonder if your sunglasses have been taken by the same gremlins that ran off with my travel adaptors :rotfl: Seriously though, so annoying when you can't find something though. If all else fails, there is always asking St Anthony ;)

    Have a good day all

  • Hello JKS

gosh you are having a bit of a time of it aren't you?!

    Am I? I hadn't really noticed...:rotfl:

I'm afraid as a teacher the types of punishments I would meter out include duties at breaks and or lunchtimes ( chewing gum scraping is unpopular but as a science teacher there are plenty of others ;))
I would make her stay after school for a few nights to catch up work she is missing whilst messing about. Do school have a good pastoral ( support) system?

At home, if I was going to be hauled I to school you could rest assured she would be punished at home too.
Don't be so hard on yourself, teenagers are rarely a good reflection on their parents efforts

    Bexster :)

Thanks Bexster - yep, those are the kind of punishments on offer. To which DD just shrugs & rolls her eyes & says "Sounds like more of a punishment for you than me, you don't get to have lunch with your friends either, while I get to sit down & avoid the idiots". It isn't a punishment to her. Staying behind at school rarely happens - but if it's offered she says she has other, more important plans & can't accept the kind offer :o I don't know if schools are allowed to force her to stay late?

She's been offered catch up sessions (not just her, for all Y10 who are struggling) but won't go, so I had the bizarre conversation of how I should leave my job (at the same school) & forcibly take her over to whichever room she needs to be in & stay there with her . Not unreasonably my boss has said I can't do that, as I need to work, but pupil support are saying I'm not engaging by refusing to do this. I'm a tad p'd off as I think I'm being treated differently as I work in the same school. Do other schools seriously expect the parents to stay with the child for detentions :rotfl:

As for home punishments - well, she never goes out unless were all together, so grounding her means grounding DS & I too. She doesn't want friends to come over (DS & I are too embarrassing) so I can't threaten her to stop that, she hasn't had pocket money for ages as her rooms a tip & she says fine, don't need to buy anything anyway. That leaves either stopping her watching TV (then I have to amuse her so I don't get anything done) or taking her laptop off her (akin to severing an artery, but she then plays the I can't do my homework card....

TBH, it isn't that I want to punish her - she's so unhappy & I want to help her see that not giving a toss isn't the answer, but I haven't found a way through yet.

LB - you're right to be more afraid of a bunch of teenage girls that the zombie apocalypse...

Hope today goes OK LB & you don't die a lingering death at the hands of the zombies. Please report back & tell us how it all went. If I was in trouble at school I also got a thrashing at home - so I learnt to be very good at school :D Its not rocket science.

Its so annoying isn't it? I've run out of places to look now & can only assume I've lost them for good. Its a beautiful, bright sunny day here too, so I know I'm going to suffer later on without them. Have got an old baseball cap, much to DS's amusement, so that should help a bit.

I shall ask St Anthony, but I'm not sure he approves of heathens like me :rotfl:

    Have a good day all.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

She sounds like a handful JKS! It isn't reasonable to have you take her to detention and sit with her. I have never had a parent do that and it defeats the object of the exercise.

I very much enjoy arranging lunchtime detentions as it allows me to get my marking done so it doesn't come home :D
If I was your daughters teacher and I thought she believed I was being punished too I would tell her that too!!

I agree punishment ultimately isn't the solution. She is clearly very unhappy. I wonder if there is anyone she can talk to about it? I don't necessarily mean a professional, but someone not do close to her. I believe school can " force" her, but only with 24 hours notice to stay after school and your written agreement.
I must say, having worked in schools where parents have their children where they work, I would never do it. Everyone seems to change the goalposts!!

Well, I survived ...just about...

Would even go so far as to say I enjoyed parts of it today, but it was hard work, and I did 5 hrs then had to try to catch up with my work, too, so I am completely shattered, and off to bed very soon.

What I didn't say this morning was that my fostering social worker was taking the workshop as an opportunity to assess how I "handle" teenagers as part of my assessment .

Luckily, by sheer fluke, she saw the best session :T,and seemed very happy with what I did.

I didn't mention it as running the workshops was pressure enough, without the added pressure of the observation exercise.

But it's done, and went fine, and now I can hopefully sleep properly again :rotfl:

I must sleep now, though, so night night for now.

You really should stay up longer LB... after all, there is no way if you had your own teenagers, that they'd be going to bed yet :D

    Hah! :rotfl:

I know! I need to work on my stamina ;). I did actually stay up til 10pm...just :rotfl:

I've always been an early riser and early to bed. I suspect teenagers will be the opposite

I'm now crawling my way to the finish line that is Friday evening - a whole week off work is the prize :T

    Have a good day, All
