Thank you JKS, hope you manage to fit in some relaxing time today.
LB, is it an electric towel rail or a plumbed-into-the-heating-system rail you want?
Last year I bought a towel rail from a firm in London, who delivered faster and were less than half the price than the electricians shop in my local town. Crazy to think that it could be cheaper to have one sent hundreds of miles.
But I think they only do electrical items. They were very helpful on the phone. I can send you a link if you want it.
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -

I'm pretty sure it's an electric towel rail, and yes, please link would be very useful. I haven't started researching yet, but it will be very handy. Thank you

Ellie - sorry to hear about your aunt. Sending you big hugs x
Sorry for being a bit late - just catching up on things0 -
Are they home LB? What do they think of the improvements?
Our cat used to punish us if we went on holiday (and we left him with his second-home neighbours, not a cattery)...when we got back he would sit with his back to us and pointedly ignore us...the kids would be talking to him and he'd sit there with his nose in the air...
until he saw us going to leave and then it was "oh well, I could come with you, is it tea time?...you're forgiven" :rotfl:

LavenderBees wrote: »...JKS, hugs to get you through today...and not just today...Your Mum sounds difficult to cope with at the best of times, but also from her perspective, it can't be easy to be becoming frail and needing to rely so much on others etc. I was lucky that when this happened to my lovely Dad, we were a match made in heaven as far as agreeing on the way forward and helping each other through. But even so, I know he struggled to ask for help/accept he needed it. It's a tough time, and I wish you luck in helping your Mum. You can just keep chipping away, don't let her guilt you (you know you have tried, and that's what you have to live with), and you have a greater duty to look after your children (IMHO)....
Thanks LB, all hugs gratefully received! I'm relieved you've confirmed my own thoughts that my duty is firstly to DD & DS (sounds more official coming from you as you're a grown up & I rarely feel like one). Mother has the opposite idea naturally - she absolutely put her own mother's needs way above mine, to the extent of leaving me home alone before I started high school for the odd weekend so she could look after her mother 150 miles away. She says she didn't have a choice, & she's right in that there was nobody else to ask to look after me, but there were other family members nearer her mother that could have stepped in to help, she just didn't trust them to do a very good job (& she was probably right there too, her side of the family are all rather odd).
Must be where I get my strong independent streak from then :rotfl:
There is no danger of me behaving like my mother - I'm just upset & annoyed that she expects me to. But I shan't give in, & I'm trying to grow a much thicker hide to cope with her spiteful comments. I know it must be a difficult time for anyone facing old age (she is 80) & I do try to make allowances for her feeling anxious etc., but she's been difficult all my life so this isn't a new thing. I don't know why she has to ensure that she always makes life as difficult as humanly possible for herself & those around her - its as if she hasn't a clue how to be happy, or get on with people, & that is so sad.Thank you JKS, hope you manage to fit in some relaxing time today....
Not exactly - I'm finding it hard to switch off lately. I know that even if I never ate or slept again I STILL wouldn't have enough time to do all the chores/things that others expect of me, so I know I'm on a hiding to nothing. But there is an inner voice that says "Oh, just get the washing up done now so you don't need to do it later" & before I know it I'm up, doing stuff & not relaxing. The curse of being a singlie with a house & garden that need serious sorting out, along with untidy & disorganised children....
Pleased to report that I had no hangover - because I couldn't even finish a small bottle of wine properly :rotfl:. I woke up still at my kitchen table, surrounded by paperwork in the small hours, after only just starting my second glass. I'm so rock & roll. Honestly if someone told me I had to have a late night out on the town I think I'd collapse into a sobbing, hysterical heap.

That's usually my line BWI feel my life is one permanent game of catch up & I'm about to be sent off at any moment. Is your own car well on the way to being repaired?
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Oh I hope you're all curled up in a big fluffy cat bundle with lots of cuddles. Bet they're so pleased to see you :j
I had a cat that I used to leave for a few days (had a cat flap & the neighbours fed her) - the noise I'd come back to was incredible. She'd hear my motorbike pull up & by the time I'd put it on its stand, locked it & taken my helmet & gloves off she'd be at my side, shouting. It was like one long telling off (my ex called it a hats-on b o l l o c k i n g), then she'd turn with her tail in the air & stalk off to sit on my chair (which she usually didn't like unless I was already on it). Every few minutes she'd turn & yowl a string of words at me, then sulk & this would go till bedtime, then she'd act as if nothing had happened
Cats eh?& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Our dog is the same with his strops, if he sees a suitcase that is it I'm sure he tries to work out who it belongs to, if its a family hol and he sees his bag (yep he has his own holiday bag.... a winnie the pooh bag), then he is ok, but the when we leave the caravan heck help us, he even tries to get under the bed to stay...
But when DD and I go away, (were all under same roof) its not as thou he has to check into a kennel (god forbid that he's lord muck), when we get back, we get the initial ur home cuddle then thats it sulk for the night (unless he has a present).
I'm sure all these cats and dogs have got us wrapped round their little paws...xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
What is it about "THAT" song in the film Beaches that makes me cry, even though I've seen the film a zillion times. It's one of my all time faves
Yes, my gorgeous pusses are home, but it's been traumatic for them, especially my YBC. Where you guys with kids hose them down occasionally, I have had to practically hose YBC and all his belongings down - yep, as usual when he is in the car, it came out both ends at the same time.
Poor wee soul. I'm ignoring some crusty bits he still has on his tail
He's a sensitive anxious cat at the best of times, and he is seriously unimpressed with his home changing shape/smelling so different. As is LMMM to be honest. They've been home hours and are still obsessively checking the place out...but they are both calmer, too.
YBC will be on double meds until I feel the danger of full blown stress related cystitis has passed.
On the plus side, loadsa YBC cuddles because he needs so much reassurance, AND I've managed to set the TV in the bedroom up again. :T
Simple things, eh?
But I am seriously tired out by everything now, so have booked Friday off to get on top of things in the hope that by Sunday, I'll be having a wee lie in and a relaxing day for a change..!
Thanks for the link for the towel rail Ellie. I've done a little research so I have a better idea what I need. That looks a good site :T
Night night, All

It's being repaired yes but I don't yet know when I will be able to have it back. Hoping to find out more in next day or two0
