OS Singlies - We Do It Our Way!

I have just made the most sublime rhubarb pudding (even if I do say so myself :rotfl:). There was a fair bit of swearing along the way, since I'm not culinarily gifted
& it seemed to take for ever & use far too many pans & bowls, but it was worth it
The best bit is neither DD or DS like rhubarb :rotfl:
Guess what I'll be eating for the next few days (recipe was for 6 ) but I reckon I can get through it in 3 days. As I'm not having it with cream or custard it should be fairly calorie neutral....And 1 of my 5 a day.
Tired after first day back at work - was a killer of a day but staff are all fab thankfully. Rosie I feel for you with nasty atmospheres - I was the boss of a shop for about 6 months & one of the women who worked there was just a cow, sorry, but no other word for it. She was about 2 years off retiring, knew far more than me about employment law & unions (I let HR deal with all of that) & generally made everyone's life a misery, although she was always fine with the customers or if there were more than 2 of you around. In front of witnesses she was charm itself, yet in a 1-2-1 she was utterly vile.
I tried to speak to her several times & got HR involved (small business with only about 40 employees spread over 4 shops) but she always knew how to get away with it. I think she actually enjoyed it all, work was miserable & I felt like a rubbish boss for not being able to sort it out. The big boss wanted us to just let her be as she'd threatened him with a tribunal if she was ever dismissed....
I unexpectedly got pregnant so ended up leaving, thankfully. If she wasn't so old I'd wonder if she was now working with you
I am giving myself the evening off chores - going to persuade kids that they really want to watch Apollo 13 with me. Expect they'll groan & go upstairs so I can watch it in peace.
Mum2one - glad to hear things have hopefully calmed down a bit & think you're wise about doing the school runs. Hope school can find something constructive to say....
Happy Monday all - ooh, that makes me want to do a silly dance around the kitchen. Must be all that rhubarb :rotfl:& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Crikey LB - that sounds like a shock! Is it a tooth that doesn't need to be replaced with anything, so you'll get get used to the gap eventually or do you need something there to be able to eat?
At least its done now - I'd rather have had it whipped out there & then too as thinking about it would make me feel worse. I'm a bit of a wuss with teeth
Its so rubbish not to be able to call someone & have them drop everything to come & get you. I'm sure a lot of us here know how carp that feels, & would have come to your aid if we could.
Take it easy hun - would you like some of my fab rhubarb pud? Don't think I can eat any more tonight :rotfl: I'm feeling very full & quite sleepy.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Omg, why is the phrase "sucking cake" so funny :rotfl:
My bath must have been too hot, I'm all of a fluster :rotfl:
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Hah!
, I nearly added "said the actress to the bishop" , but I'm a well brought up young lady, so, of course, I didn't
.
I've managed to suck my roast chicken dinner
JKS - I think I'll be ok if I puree everything for the rest of my life. Roast chicken dinner soup, anyone?
:rotfl:
I was more concerned about my smile tbh, but now I've removed the gauze and tried smiling, I'm just about ok.
I'm feeling pretty wan though. So, going to bed early with my cuppa. Hope my 3 hrs sleep this afternoon doesn't keep me awake. At the mo, I don't think it will!
Night night. Sweet dreams.

You're right JKS, it's rubbish not having anyone to call when we're having a drama.
It's not always a singlie/couple divide though... a few years ago I had to attend hospital for a mammogram and biopsy to check a lump. When I told my partner about the appointment, he said "oh, right" and wouldn't talk about it. On the day, he went to work, and said "phone me when you have a result"...that was it! I went on my own, and I think the hospital staff were quite surprised. I did feel quite let down that day.

One of the reasons I'm single is because of my ex's appalling record on bothering to turn up to hospital appointments/take time off to look after me post-surgery. I decided that if I was having to rely on family and friends, then clearly he wasn't a partner, and he didn't deserve my time and attention. The people who did were the people who made time for me.
Hope you feel better soon LB. I found having my crown done pretty exhausting. I think it was the effort of keeping quiet the whole time they were working inside my mouth :cool:0 -
Morning, All. :j
I feel a lot better today...slept well, which makes a huge difference.I just have to be careful to chew on the other side until it repairs.
Yep, I think you are right. It is not nice to be let down by others. As much as possible, I try to deal with things myself and that way I'm not let down. Makes for an exhausting life, though, trying to do everything yourself. Of course, sometimes you have to rely on others, so the trick is to sort the wheat from the chafe...but sometimes it's the relying on someone and finding they let you down that allows the sorting to take place
Beautiful day here....far too nice to go to work....Why wasn't I born into a rich family or married a rich man....whinge whinge....?
:rotfl:
Have a good'un.

Hi everyone
LB Hope that your mouth is feeling a bit better today. Not having to work...love the idea! Big problem...I'm a singlie with only one income
Where's all the nice, rich men?...
JKS Rhubarb pudding? How yummy! If only I wasn't trying to cut out the sugar in my diet to see if it would help my acne...
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

You're quite right Ellie & Greenbee - not having someone to come & collect you/accompany you in your hour of need isn't just a singlie problem, albeit never one that affects any of the people I know in RL except me. They all seem to have lovely partners & families who will drop everything & come to the rescue, which is how I'd expect families & partners to act. It's quite nice to find out on here that I'm not the only one that has to do it all alone; but I'd much rather we didn't have to in the first place IYKWIM.
I'd forgotten the times I'd gone to potentially serious hospital appointments alone when I was married :rotfl:3forholidays wrote: »Hi everyone

Rhubarb pudding is still going strong - just had today's dose& few more left until its all gone. Then hopefully I'll get more rhubarb :rotfl:
I'll never be slim
LB - I think I'm going to have to cross being a WAG/marrying a footballer off my career list now at my age. Along with being an astronaut & getting Olympic gold for the javelin. Shall I start compiling a list of rich widowers for us all :rotfl:
How's the mouth today? Hope it's improving.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin
