Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend and hugs to everyone that needs one. LB hope your work situation resolves itself soon. When I was 19 we went for our half hour lunch break and the brown envelopes were left by people's workbenches. When we left the personnel officer told us never to work for that firm again, if we had the choice. She was fed up of them taking on staff when they had lots of work and then letting hundreds of them go (my redundancy money was mostly four weeks holiday pay I was due - I opened a building society account and started saving for my first house). More recently, I worked through an agency and we were all thanked for our hard work in getting a massive order out only to get phone calls when we got home saying our services were no longer required.
Sorry if I have been a bit strange the last few weeks. I have been depressed and didn't know where it had come from as I try not to let myself go into the pit. Wrote a list this morning and came up with 15 things that were wrong so I should be glad I am not feeling worse. Lots are other people/ organisations messing up and things beyond my control so will just keep plodding and work on the things I can do something about.
I have enjoyed your discussion on house clearing but didn't want to join in as thinking about mum's mess is too depressing. I will end up doing it either when she dies or when her partner dies and she moves out of his house. I have reduced my own things as far as possible (need to work on the furniture now). Realised recently that all my stuff is a minimum of ten years old, mostly battered and quite a lot that people insisted must be 'kept in the family' but at my house rather than theirs. Sorry I may have already said that - just going round in circles atm.
So I have another week of cleaning the bits of the house I can get at and stealth laundering. DS3 has 4 people staying next weekend as he is 25. I have been taking pillows two at a time and washing them, need to do the covers and duvet covers this week. Think I will have enough if I carry on as I am doing.
We used to have loads but DS3 reduces pillows to either flat as a pancake or strange twisted lumps. Every so often I undo them and put a twisty lump between two flat layers to make 'new' pillows but all these have had that done at least twice. Will add new pillows to the list of things that should be bought after the other house is sold.
Hope your working week is good or at least tolerable. Countdown to next weekend starts now.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
:grouphug: sending you a dodgy hug Mothernerd. Be kind to yourself. Hope you have a good week0

I was ruthless clearing the old house because I knew that most of it wouldn't fit in here. I told my small son that if he missed anything that I had got rid of in the first three months I would replace it out of my own money. He didn't miss a thing and his stuff needs doing again as he has now grown out of a lot of the toys that he played with a year ago.
One of my friends took 3 car loads of stuff from my house. I can only assume he was a champion hoarder like my husband as he took the fencing epees and clothes, jodhpurs, ancient stereo, air rifle, martial arts clothes and a pile of other stuff that MrC had been saving. I was chuffed to be able to give the Black and Decker work bench to one of MrC's good friends, who was equally chuffed to receive it. I managed to palm a lot of the old and tatty "lived through the building project" furniture off on the new occupants on the grounds that they were moving from a small flat and didn't have enough stuff to fill the place :rotfl: So far I haven't missed anything either.
Byatt, I hope your potential health problem isn't too serious0 -
Quick update...
Went down to the police station, as I expected they can't do anything as the dad didnt make the threats, but at least it has been logged, been told that the school has to act on it... (be a laugh....) and (shouldn't really b smiling at this...but....) the pastoral support woman is going to be spoken to by the police for telling me to go to the house and confront him...
DD been a bit up and down over, so the plan this week will be drive her to school and on return pick her up at the door... just need to elimate any chance (incase is was true). The plan is as well speak to the school
Had a mini sort out, now listed all the bday/fathers day/xmas prezzies, pretty well done 3/4 of the xmas shop, all bargains... gone 2 main presents to get and some mini top ups.
The next plan is ebay, had a 100 free listings, so going through my last not solds and get them on, then got 10 items of clothes to measure and photo.
Dont hold out for much tidying up this week, it still be there.... xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

But I've managed ...on my own...:T
I'm just back from lottie for a loo break and a drink. My lottie neighbour brought his young grandson to see my chooks and I said he could take my one and only egg today for his tea....he took it in his fat little hand, toddled outside the hen run and tripped, and dropped my precious Maisie's egg
:rotfl:
Thank you for cheering me up on 2 counts - at the `spelk` word. It`s a long time since I lived in Newcastle but memories came flooding back.....! And my Mum was called Maisie!

It's "spelk" in scottish-land speak too
I'm rubbish at getting them out, poke about for ages and it's still there!
Got a large one in my hand clearing aunts flat (another dangerous job!). When I visited her later in the day I got one of the nurses to get it out, she was rough but effective :rotfl:mothernerd wrote: »Lots are other people/ organisations messing up and things beyond my control so will just keep plodding and work on the things I can do something about.
at - just going round in circles atm.
.
It's so frustrating isn't it? I don't think there's any organizations left who can do things quickly and efficiently. My "problem things" are 90% done now (promised for before easter though).
Just keep telling yourself everything will get sorted eventually.
CRANKY40, I too moved to a smaller house after DH died. I took a bit too much, but whittled it down later. The situation wasn't helped by the fact that the new house was bought complete with all the sellers furniture because he was leaving the country. (I really can't remember why I agreed, it must have seemed like a good idea at the time). I sold and gave away a LOT of furniture that year :rotfl:
God, my eyes are tired today, they just want to go back to bed.

Ah, you're very welcome. It's amazing how we geordies manage to be bi-lingual :rotfl:

...and the Scots are bi-lingual, too....;)
Oh dear! Had a bad day...started well with the dentist able to fit me in at lunchtime, so off I toddled to have my tooth refilled. To my horror, the dentist told me that my tooth was completely fractured . Nothing to be done except extract it. As part was hanging by a thread, he did it immediately, which in a way is good because I had no time to think about it.
I went back to work but had to come home when I started to shake from reaction, and also I couldn't speak, so my meetings were a none starter :rotfl:. It would have been good to have someone to drive me home, I think, even just for a bit of sympathetic support, but never mind, it can't be done.
I've been asleep all afternoon, woke to find both pusses snuggled right into me, luv 'em, and am now starting to feel a bit more normal. I'm having my first cup of tea...bliss!
The week can only now get better...
Hope you've all had a good day. Isn't the weather glorious at the mo? :T
