Thanks both
I have been out and untied the end that was on my side. I just hope the agent or a new tenant doesn't decide to rehang it since the other end is still tied up. Although if they ask first..I would definitely be less bothered. Guess will have to wait and see
Can you get into the garden and untie the other end and remove the clothesline? After all, its a personal possession that got left behind as unwanted - so just take it down totally and throw it out. Leaving it tied in place at one end will cause new tenants to think "Oh it belongs to the house and has just come untied the other end" and tie it back up again.
I do understand sometimes it can feel a bit difficult to psych yourself up to remember that its your garden and therefore its only up to you what happens regarding it (providing you aren't doing anything antisocial like planting leylandii in inappropriate places or burning rubbish or something there). I've been there/done that on having to do said psyching up courtesy of my nfh trying to make me feel I couldn't do anything I wanted in my own garden and had to remind myself each time that its MY garden and therefore she isn't entitled to an opinion. My nfh was determined that she would decide the style of MY garden and I had to be very strongminded to sit down analytically and think what is to do with me and me only and this clothesline is to do with you if it might reappear in place tied to your post.0 -
Funny you should ask that. The gate to next door was open earlier in the week and I did pop round to see if it still was so I could take it down entirely. Sadly it wasn't open. I will just have to see what happens.0

Bookworm it's the weekend here now as well :j :T
I agree with the others...definitely remove the washing line. Keep an eye out to see if you can get in to untie the other end. Do you see the landlord or the agents at the house? You could mention it to them politely.
MITSTM, I had a look at the clothes images, don't see anything like that in my neck of the woods! A bit too fussy for me, and not very practical for when you're busy. I like floaty and flowery clothes, but if I ever try some on I look ridiculous, so I don't own any. I suppose I'm in the "forgettable" category, jeans and boots are just so comfy
I shall cheer myself up by trying to remember the saying (can't remember how it goes) that says if people remember what you were wearing you've failed, you want them to remember how you made them feel, and how nice and interesting you are, not what you were wearing
I'm with you on the crazy fluctuating clothes sizings. What a cheek that the manufacturers can just decide to change sizes. I have a belt like that too! I don't bother trying to work out what size I "really" am though, it's a bit like working out what something costs in old money, they're not going to change the sizes back.
The weather is vile, I don't know what I shall do with my afternoon. I need to call round to a colleague's, maybe I shall stop off and buy chocolate to go with my glass of wine tonight
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
I live in jeans and boots a lot...but do want the boots to be stylish and to have some stylish trousers and tops and few skirts/dresses for when I want to "dress casual" instead of "dressing (very) casual" iyswim.
Got to work on it bit by bit I guess and at least be recognisable as me from the neck down - if not from the neck up iyswim:(0 -
Bookworm - remove the line altogether if you can or do as Ellie has suggested and speak to the agent and/or the landlord.
I got up late today - still feeling snuffly. Did a bit more studying. Didn't do half the jobs I had planned to do. Spoke to mum earlier to wish her a happy birthday, one of her pals went round today for a natter and mum has spent the rest of her birthday cleaning the greenhouse and washing all the glass and the shelving. Mum is concerned that I still sound bunged up - it will pass eventually.
I might do a bit in the garden tomorrow and I do need to wander down to the supermarket for milk and bread.0 -
def agree re clothes sizing, depends on where I buy to what size i am, thou I find H&M there plus size to be very tight, I couldnt even get a pair of jeans over my rear....
If I order from catalogues, I usually have 2 or 3 sizes.... it so hit and miss...
DD has been out shopping today, she got a mothers day card for me - thou bless her heart it says "first mothers day"....
Home then to another friends for a sleepover, so quiet without her.... gives me chance to get the tv remote and catch up - so maybe an earlier ngt xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Another Major Walk for me today - bar a look out the window and seeing its bucketing down (I got soaked to skin last Major Walk I did and don't fancy repeating experience).
Lunch afterwards with the group.
Been pouring over books I've bought with local walks in yesterday and generally got a better idea where I'm lining myself up to explore. Made a new friend whose brains I can pick specifically about places to go/things to do.
Bit by bit slotting bits of information into place re this area. Got myself a good carpenter lined-up now (errrrm...belatedly in the event....) from having just walked-up to one I spotted in the street and requested him to do some work for a friend of mine. Work duly done and friend is delighted with his standard...so that's me sorted for knowing who to go to for future carpentry. Well at least I've been more successful in getting my friend sorted in that respect than in helping her find a job (as it does look like she's maybe coming up against the English Not, with it being public sector jobs she is after).
(The English Not is informal name for mirror image of the Welsh Not. The Welsh Not was when there was a time - extending into the 20th century - when people were punished in some contexts for speaking Welsh. Meaning schoolchildren in some parts of Wales got punished for speaking Welsh and, I gather, workmen in some factories were as well). The modern-day reverse version is that, in some parts of Wales, its difficult to get public sector jobs if you don't answer a question on a form of "do you speak Welsh?" with anything other than "fluently" and I've heard of students being denied placements in schools during their training and a student punished for speaking English on school premises in a Welsh school locally. Don't know how prevalent this is - but am glad I'm not after a public sector job (mind you - I'm not after any job personally...I've now got 3 separate part-time bits of voluntary work and that will do me:rotfl:). The Welsh Not was absolutely wrong and should never have happened and is a blot on the history books and hopefully this mirror image one isn't very prevalent and will soon vanish into the history books too. I am concerned that this is part of the reason behind a bit of a "brain drain" of some of the brightest young Welsh people heading towards England for jobs, as a couple of them have been telling me that they have fallen foul of not being able to get training placements for their careers in local schools here because of it). Maybe this is just the part of the country I am in and doesn't extend across very much of it. It does seem to have been a problem in this area for about the last 2 years or so, according to what these students told me and reports I have had of job application forms getting lost into the wastebin in a public sector context, after just taking a look at the answer to that one question.
Bit by tiny bit I'm building up my network of places and people.0 -
On the subject of Welsh/English languages, I just loved those mistranslated road signs a few years back.
One of them read, "Cyclists Dismount" in English, and "Llid y bledren dymchwelyd" (apparently, "Bladder disease has returned") in Welsh.
The other read, "No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only" in English, and "Nid wyf yn y swyddfa ar hyn o bryd. Anfonwych unrhyw waith i'w gyfieithu" (apparently, "I'm out of the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated") in Welsh.
:rotfl:e cineribus resurgam("From the ashes I shall arise.")0 -
:rotfl::rotfl:...and that's my second grin for the day.
The first one being the answer to the question "How do you realise the English person sitting next to you during your conversation with someone else got the general gist of what you were just saying?" Answer "When they've just burst out laughing at the humorous comment you made":rotfl:Moi?0 -
Sorry not been in for a while but I have been reading. Saw my GP on Monday and he signed me off for a week because my uveitis has flared up again:mad: I have been spending a lot of time sleeping and resting my eyes.
Discovered that I had over £7 from completing surveys so I have moved it to my Paypal account and will be using it to pay for something off fleabay. Nipped out earlier to meet a friend and this naughty person had two cups of coffee and a cake but I did cut the small cake into pieces and shared them with a 4 year old. Will be going to the park tomorrow to plan the Easter Egg Hunt we are going to put up some information and give out clues.
Feeling a bit thinner too despite eating foods that are not that good for me - but it has been lovely having choccie biccies. Tonight it will be bacon, eggs and beans for tea - I might even do some oven chips too.
Weather not bad here today - the sun has been out at least.0
