Hiya Mother Nerd and everyone else!!
My job is partially about teaching troubled teenagers how to interact in a positive way with folk. I now pass the trick on to you. Have a little fun! See how long you can keep someone talking with the following 5 questions: 'Who?' 'When?' 'What?' 'Why?' 'where?'
So for example:
'Who did you come to the party with?' 'Who have you seen that you haven't seen for years?'
'Fred'
'Oh When did you last see Fred?'
'Five years ago'
'Where was that?'
folks usually LOVE to rabbit on about themselves!! The record so far is 45 mins of rabbiting! I have often done this and am renowned as a 'really good person to have a conversation with' - even although I have said nothing about myself at all. Its not really a conversation (that is a two way thing between two people who respect and trust each other) but it does amuse one!! It also opens the door to a real conversation - by their replies you can judge if you want to spend your time finding out more about them/their hobbies/family et al. Hope this helps! Take care.Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

You got it.....:rotfl:. I was more than a little amused at a social thing yesterday realising the organiser was sitting nearby watching closely as I was doing exactly that ...:rotfl:Errr...does that mean I'm in line for a "meeter and greeter" post then or something?
:rotfl:
Welcomes to all newbies...variety (ie on the thread) is the "spice of life".0 -
Dizzybuff, hope you're feeling a bit better now.
Happiness.v4, welcome. And enjoy every single moment of being thirty - after all, you're probably going to spend the rest of your days wishing you were 30 again, so live this year to the full!
Lynplatinum, excellent advice - thanks for sharing.

Hello to Happiness, newbies and the usual gang.
I had one of those days today - a day where I overslept and I was still in my PJs at 11am, so I washed my hair and got myself sorted out.
We had a bit of snow overnight along with a hard frost but I ventured out anyway as I had to go to the library at the other end of the village. I took 3 books back and borrowed 3 books but at first the system would not allow me to borrow one book because despite it being in my hand according to the system it was out on loan. The librarian sorted it for me and I could borrow it. Loving these large print books. It was a good walk there and back.
Nipped into a charity shop and found a lovely M&S cardigan in bright red so I bought it (am sick of wearing dark colours), it looked brand new and was pure new wool and only £3.50:D I also bought a tall white vase with pictures of alliums on the side - it came with assorted ting and two silk alliums. The ting has been removed and I just need to get a white silk allium and then my vase will be complete. It will go on my fireplace instead of grandma's old brass trivet and copper kettle - I am trying to be modern.
I remember being 30 - my grandma died two months before it and I can also remember my work colleagues producing a large cake shaped like a number 30 that had been 'painted' with psychedelic colours. It was rather yummy as I recall. I am 50 something now ahem..but I don't feel a day over 21 because I am still as daft as a brush as my grandma would say:D
I must blag some Easter eggs this week and start finding out costings for our summer event - if I can do that then I can put in a lottery funding bid for it (and get someone else to pay rather than us:rotfl:).
Tomorrow I have an appointment with my GP (must ask her for a prescription for my tablets), I am also going to go to Tai Chi (I will take the car to the doctors and can then drive straight to the park afterwards).
I must try and look at the OU course I signed up for - so far I have done nowt, zip, nothing..I haven't even looked at it.0 -
Evening everyone
and extra welcome's to the newbies
I've had a busy (but in the nicest way) few days seeing some friends and getting out and about.
Back to work today though and it was the slowest day that I've had for a while. I literally felt every minute until home time....
I'm so over the cold weather...ready for spring here!

I'll adopt that phrase too of "so over the cold weather". Waiting to do work in the garden.
Helps to have a Highlight of the Week I guess if possible. Last week's Highlight was the aforementioned social occasion and meal got laid on for a group of us and there was plenty of food/plenty of drink and chance to meet new faces, so chance to "deepen relationship a bit" with a few faces I've already met and get to introduce myself to few more totally-new-to-me faces. These days = if someone wants to feed me then its "oh be grateful" basically and chances to widen my "social circle" help too.
Darn back playing up a bit again and I missed the yoga session I planned on yesterday because of it. Today is mixed social and trying to deal with unwanted "stuff" going on:(. Isnt happy about the "stuff" work...but anyway fingers crossed and looking beyond to Qi Gong later in the week and hoping my back is back to normalfor it.
