A little birdie told me I was being asked after, thanks for the thoughts and caring about me. Long story short, my laptop has been unwell, my phone also decided to be unwell and then life took over. I've been busy with work, also.
My relationship with my daughter has got worse, to the point where she only texts when she wants money. It makes me very sad especially at this time of year when I would be planning what to get her for Xmas. But, onwards and upwards, life throws curveballs ...
On a positive note, I went to see the ballet Swan Lake last night...a small production but magical.

Great to 'hear' from you Byatt!
Horace I just realised that I never said Happy Birthday yesterday. Hope that you had a nice day.
Hope that everyone has an enjoyable day & in mum2one's case a profitable one.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Belated birthday wishes from me Horace...a bit late to the party here...whoops.
Hope it was a good one.
Been tied-up with my own weekend stuff which, as per usual since moving here, turned out a bit more complicated than thought one way and another.
Well...fwiw...my semi-hippy "alternative" stuff included an instant assessment of me as a "natural healer". Well...that counts as a compliment in these circles you know:rotfl:. Unless that's summat that gets said to people with "toaster hands" automatically:think:...never mind putting the fire on to warm a chilly part of my anatomy, "toaster hands" don't do a bad job of it actually:rotfl:. She didn't mention my rather cynical temperament:rotfl:which is now wondering....
BYATT Good to hear from you and that things haven't gone that much from "bad to worse" re daughter and there are some other explanations too. As I recall, your last mention of daughter was things had moved onto a "texts only" basis...0 -
ByattGlad to see you, sorry things havent improved with DD, hopefully Christmas may make her realise what she has lost.
have to say today was a very good day... we took £125.... I could have jumped for joy, the best part was, nothing was priced over £2, our biggest seller was santa sleighs, they were literally flying out, one bloke brought 8 for xmas dinner placecards to go in,
DD - she was a classic, towards the end, I sent her and grandad around with some sleighs, told her what ever she sells she can have half, - expecting her to only sell 1 or 2, no she sold out - 222 sleighs - took her less than 5 mins to do it!
Next fayre on Friday, doubt were be as successful, but even if its £1 made its all in the holiday fund xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Great to see that you are still alive Byatt - sorry to hear about your DD.
My birthday was very quiet yesterday, I spent the morning at a neighbourhood convention. I spoke to my parents late afternoon, I prepared my dinner for today (just bunged it all in the slow cooker - switched it on today before I left for work). I slept a lot.
Today, I got up - had something to eat, watched a bit of trashy tv, finished a book. Left to get the 10.04 bus eventually got to my destination at 11.30am. Mooched in a few shops before actually going into work. Discovered that there is no card for me so they did not actually know I was in or even out of the building. No locker either so my belongings were locked in a cabinet in the admin office (no-one in there when I went to collect but thankfully the key was in the lock so got my stuff out). Eventually got home at 6pm.
I am pooped, all I did from 12-4pm was clear tables. I got shouted at by a customer who complained about the lack of service as she had had to queue for a pot of jam to go with her teacake and then had to show her receipt to prove that she had paid for it. She ranted for a while because there were a lot of people in the till area and I went and found out why there was a delay to be told that it was because of training. I went to see the customer and explained about the training and said that if she told someone that her hips were hurting and she needed to sit down then the jam would have been taken to her. She was quite happy especially as I spent some time with her and took the time to listen.
Some people are really filthy too - dropping all kinds of things in their coffee cups including half eaten sandwiches (all food gloop has to be disposed of separately) and then some will empty packets of sauce all over saucers etc so when you pick them up you get covered in gloop:mad: I felt as though I was constantly washing my hands. Still I had fun and several little kids told me what Father Christmas was going to buy them - one lad in particular thought that he didn't have to listen to mummy because Father Christmas would bring him what he wanted anyway, he didn't understand about being good...bless him.
Tomorrow I am having lunch at my parents - I will take my cards and the present from my pal. I am having lunch out again on Thursday as I have been invited round to a friend's house.0 -
After that sort of journey to work (and back again?) and the work itself, I do hope this works out for you Horace and you get your "just reward" of a decent job with normal amount of hours.
Looking at those hours...how did you manage for lunch? Were you able to have "a bite" on the job?0 -
I second hoping the job works out well Horace.
Another week started already, the year is passing by so quickly.
My intentions last week to finally finish my To Do list failed miserably... working and visiting an elderly relative ate into my time, but tbh I also got an attack of lazyitis.
The stuff left on the list is all the stuff I don't really want to do, but need to...like making a door curtain, altering other curtains, moving beds, and reading up about SA tax (now that the HMRC do everything online, it's so much harder to find out what you need to know, how do you know which online brochures are the ones you need until you've read *everything*?)
I want everything cleared by christmas, partly so the house is sorted, but more so that I don't have to think about it any more, clear some mental space!
So this week's approach is the "eat a frog" first thing every day
Although "first thing" is already gone today, been talking to DB on skype instead, oops.
Last night I ordered myself some scented candles, and 4 little bowls I've been coveting for a while, it felt quite indulgent
Also ordered 3 little metal houses to put candles in for christmas, feel quite keen to decorate the house this year (but not for a few weeks yet)
Right...first job today, new tyres for the car.

Just popping in quickly before I head off to my parents.
I don't have a break at work which means no lunch either - I have a late breakfast and when I got home I had two bowls of casserole and a fat onion & herb roll (all the other rolls are a bit thinner). I am hoping that the hours eventually work out and I get taken on permanently (I can then transfer to my local store).
I set my alarm for 8am, switched it off and got out of bed at 9am today - I am certainly sleeping more. At least I don't have to see another cup of cappuccino until Friday:cool:
Best get ready to shoot off out. Ciao for now.0 -

I don't have a break at work either Horace. I have breakfast at around 6am, then nothing until I'm finished work, which is normally about 2pm, although it's 4pm when we're busy this month.
I figure it won't do me any harm, as I need to lose weight it might actually be good for me :rotfl:
I do carry a bottle of juice though, in case I get thirsty.
Miniature panic averted re xray appointment
Phoned this morning and a very nice girl changed it for me, and I'm actually going earlier than before, she gave me someone else's cancellation. Much easier than trying to work and fit in a 3 hour trip to hospital on the same day, so very happy.

Whew! to the thought of no lunch at lunchtime:eek: Horace and Ellie.
What would your employers' attitude be if you carried some food around in your pocket and ate it as you worked? (eg making up some healthy type flapjacks/fruit/chunks of cheese/etc)? Would they accept that obviously you were going to do so, rather than miss a meal out or get shirty about it?0
