More fingers crossed here Horace.
I guess the best scenario would be if this part time job leads to more permanent hours. Sometimes we have to take a job which isn't perfect in the hope it leads to something better.
Bit gutting to work those hours for a fiver though!
I've taken a job which is only 2 days a week, in the hopes that I'll be first on the spot if more days become available.
Never know what's round the corner!
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Whilst it's a shame that the hours (and therefore, money) aren't what you expected or hoped for, Horace, there are many more benefits to be had from obtaining work, or there should be.
Also, you are already indicating where you can add value to your new role, so hopefully, your new line manager will take full advantage of that, and also reward you with more hours/role you really would like. But don't expect that will happen automatically, unfortunately. The good workers, who quietly get on with their work and add value are often the ones taken for granted....so once you have your feet under the table, and are doing your basic role correctly, and can demonstrate how you are adding value, THEN ask HR what other opportunities there are...it's unlikely to just land in your lap, unfortunately
Good luck with it all

Thanks ladies - I shall do what I have to do and Christmas is coming and I know that more hours are available. I sign on tomorrow and as I am seeing the sensible one in the job centre, I will ask him.
I did some chores yesterday, and went to the building society to get a replacement book and withdrew £100, I have since bought a new plain black skirt and a black shirt (can't get a plain black cardi or jumper anywhere - so next stop is the charity shop), I did a load of shopping today and have some money left to buy a cardi/jumper but if I manage to get something in the charity shop then I will buy myself some new slippers.
Today I wandered up to the park to see the rangers and meet the volunteers from black horse bank who were putting in some whips for me - they were going to put up some protective fencing too. After they headed off for a warm up - I spotted the Nordic Walkers on the other side of the park so walked over to see how they were getting on and walked with them for a while.
Visited my elderly neighbours this afternoon as they were keen to know how I got on at work. They think it most unfair that I have to work weekends and clear tables, I don't actually mind. On Saturday morning I have been granted a holiday from SW and will be attending a community meeting (in an attempt to get more volunteers) because I don't start my next shift until Sunday.0 -
Good evening all.
I'm so pleased that work is over for another week. Been another busy one for me (including a 2 day conference and overnight stay in London - yuck). Looking forward to vegging on the sofa tonight
I've been trying to ignore all the Black Friday madeness that seems to have taken over the world today. However, I needed to order new printer cartridges this weekend anyway and an offer for 20% off from the site I use popped into my inbox - so of course have utilised that :TOtherwise not planning on any other spends today
Currently trying to muster the energy to cook some dinner...
How's everyone else doing?

Hello gang
Yuck to London - horrid place. This Black Friday thing has passed me by - can't see the point of it myself.
Went to the dole office this morning to sign on and explained that I was working 12 hours per week and was told that it was allowable. All I have to do is show my payslip when I get one and when I sign on and show it then I probably won't get any money but will get my stamp paid. I said that I was gutted to have been given 12 hours when I was expecting more but was hoping that when my probation period is up that I will get more hours. I want my knees firmly under the table so that I can transfer to the store down the road (the steels have gone up as well as the concrete staircases).
Spoke to mum earlier so they are no longer worried about dole etc. (like me they were worried I would be left with nothing) and she invited me over on Monday for lunch. It isn't convenient tomorrow and in any case I have this community convention to go to - I want to find out how to better engage with my local community, how to get more volunteers and I want to know how to set up a time bank.
Used my bus pass today for the dole office, I wandered down to Mr S's to see what they had by way of black cardigans or jumpers (everything was either sparkly or had a bloomin' figure on the front) so I came out with tights and a new pair of slippers (my feet are too cold in old summer crocs). I then got the bus to the village as I had to go to the library to renew a book, nipped into a charity shop to see if they had any jumpers or cardis and found a black jumper for £1.50 (it will do). Bought a book in another charity shop - about wartime food, it has some brilliant recipes in it. One was where you used an apple corer to scoop a hole length ways through a scrubbed potato (remembering to use the corings for soup) and to fill the hole with sausage meat and bake it in the oven as you would a jacket spud and to serve it on a bed of cooked cabbage.
I have also been eating a lot, it was the same yesterday, I just cannot stop eating. I have had rolls for lunch, bacon bap for tea, a cake with a small quenelle of cream on the top, several clementines as well as a pear, 2 yoghurts. This might not seem like a lot to some folks but to me it is a veritable feast:D
Have a great weekend folks.0 -
Me...I'm still wondering where Byatt is...
Byatt...are you out there still? Am wondering whether daughter problems have loomed even larger than usual (if that's possible...).?0 -
Morning peeps!
Lottery winner here....all of £2.60 :rotfl: Still nice to get anything really!
Just having a :coffee:and trying to decide on plans for today
What are you all up to?0 -
Cooking here - chicken noodle soup, spag bol and lamb curry.. :j. That's my freezer almost empty and ready for defrost next weekend, and also almost ready for the most interesting and lovely freezer stock up of the year. Whoop whoop! :T
Far too busy in town to go shopping today though I did try...not a car park space to be had in Morpeth, so will go much later this evening. I only really want cabbages for the chooks
Treated myself to a print from a collectables shop on outskirts of Morpeth, where I could get parked. That is my C pressie to myself - Sheila Flinn print "The Tabby Cat Family". Retro print. It's famous (well, it's on't internet anyway :rotfl:), and was a bargain in this little shop. And what a pleasant shopping experience it was..I was going to wrap it, and unwrap it C Day, but know that LMMM would simply unwrap it, so I've hung it instead. Love it!
The pusses C pressies have arrived and LMMM is enjoying the box, and has also run off with one of the pressies (so that's a success, then :rotfl:). I'll wrap the rest, and she can spend the next few weeks unwrapping them.
Part of their pressie is a large cat tree, so that will keep ME busy the next few weeks, trying to work that out for them. I'm sure they'll both "help", too
So, pootling really. Nothing exciting, but just enjoyable

Morning Bookworm, or rather afternoon
I'm just taking 10 minutes to eat some muesli (second breakfast, first was at 6am), and then rushing back out to work. I have one of those jobs which gets much busier at christmas, so no time to turn round, never mind breathe!
I only work 2 days a week usually, and I've just opened a letter giving me a time for xrays at the hospital...yep, on one of the days I work. I don't really want to postpone it (says if I cancel 2 appointments I'll be put off the list) but I have no idea how I'll manage that day. Will need to do some planning tonight. Hospital's in a different town, so it will take all morning.
Lavender Bees, pleased to see someone else is buying themselves a christmas present. I've been thinking of getting myself something, seen some really nice things in a catalogue but hadn't decided if it was just using christmas as an excuse to get things I like, IYSWIM!
Yes, I think I may catalogue shop tonight, won't be fit for anything more strenuous :rotfl:
Back to work now...
