  • I still have DS31 at home so it was a normal day for me. I work from home and had work to do, but it's still me who cooks all the meals.
DS can cook, although not really from scratch. He's been told and shown often enough and he THINKS he can but instances like leaving him to do the rice for a curry once then finding out he knew nothing about rinsing it beforehand have proved him wrong. So annoying to be presented with a sticky mess instead of fluffy basmati.
We had roast gammon, I love Sunday roasts as I roast all the veg as well, after microwave precooking if needed. So easy, no faffing about standing over a stove.
So roast carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatoes and red onions today to go with the gammon and no league of pots and dishes to wash. Just the roasting pan and the dish that precooked the carrots.

a good weekend, we even managed to avoid the showers - or in our case the heavens opened.... was a gd ngt last ngt, we stopped at chippy - money saving just the chips.... crashed out tv, watching x-factor, in pjs and blanket, it was great, just the 2 of us..

We saw the man... it was an interesting conversation, shall we say even thou hes 12 yrs older than me, with 4 grown up kids, he's looking for a sugar mummy, who will spoil him rotten and he doesn't have to pick up the tab...He had built up some ideas - I was a caravan owner, (I wish) the amount of time been away this yr, (we had dad in hospital up there, so we stayed a week extra then did 2 1/2 weeks of driving up most days, - we use to call there on way home), wasnt sure if I was working, if i was it had to be a flexible well paid job... (not right).

The best thing was he didn't even realise he was giving all this away, - so thanks bit no thanks - at least i found out in time...

back home, - back to hospital run 2mor... xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Wow Mum2one, well done to your radar for picking all that up. He sounds like a real keeper...not!

Horace, hope you're up and out :D

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • Mum2One - have I missed summat? (wouldn't be the first time:rotfl:) re seeing a man.

Had you got a blind date fixed up and this be yur man concerned?

Better off without him if he thinks you would be in a supporting role to him financially for sure.

I still struggle with getting my head round the idea of a man bumming off a woman. I know plenty of that happens in reverse (ie women bumming off men) - not guilty yer honour:rotfl:...but does my head in to try and picture the reverse. I know it must happen - because I read about it in papers and rather thought "That's a bit of a risk wealthy and rich women have...not me then (as I'm not wealthy by anyone's stretch of the imagination:()".

I do remember one of my fathers first comments when I bought my starter house was that I needed to be aware a man might try and steal some of the equity tied-up in it from me and to look out for that. Thought hadn't crossed my mind it might be that way round....but I duly took account of his words and kept "protective" of my house equity. Just as well I did, in the event, because an attempt to use MY house equity took literally weeks to happen and was an attempt by someone I had thought of as a friend to take out a loan for herself using MY house as security for it:eek::eek::mad::eek::eek:. I saw through it and she didn't manage to do so...but I was very shocked and sickened by it (that old "asking me to be a guarantor" trick).

money - it was nearly a date - we got talking to this man during our many visits up to Wales when dad was in hosp, we called in to the place he worked most ngts, then weve been up for couple weekends, last time we were up we got chatting and was going to arrange a drink, but we didnt get round to it, last time we chatted about families, this time he came across for a chat, and hence the I was about to run a mile....
Its a bit of a weird set up, he works part time, - the place is about 70 miles from home, so he stays at his bosses house (she lives with her sister), so he stays 3 ngts a week. As its a seaside resort - my guess is he has a few romances during the summer...

    xx

    Hello gang

Sorry I wasn't about yesterday, I found that when I got home that I had no broadband connection nor Tivo or catch up tv:mad: I managed to drag myself out of bed at 6am (managed it today too) by putting my phone which acts as my alarm clock on the dressing table which is across the other side of the room to my bed so if I want to switch off the racket I have to get out of bed.

I had induction yesterday and today - I discovered yesterday that I will only be working for 12 hours so not enough for me to come off the dole, my salary will be £6.70 per hour. Yesterday was a bit of course work with various trips down onto the shop floor either to find things or to ask customers questions - I had customers asking me questions so either by using my initiative or asking a colleague I was able to resolve their queries. It was noted down by my coach too.

Today was very different, I was given a food hygiene book to read and then I had to answer questions which were marked, I then had to do a test about allergens. There was more classroom work - how I chuckled when I found out who we can and cannot sell alcohol to (apparently we are not able to sell to ladies who work - my classmates looked blank until I said ladies of the night:rotfl:) but as these are not identifiable then that byelaw will have to be ignored.

I was shown how to use the till - difficult at first but then I was a bit quicker, I even had to serve customers - not easy when you are dealing with real people and real money (until then I hadn't seen the inside of the cash drawer) - I explained to them that I was still wearing my L plates as I had only just started, they were ok with it. I spent the afternoon in the caf! where I will be working and I will be mainly clearing tables and tackling the dishes (the dishwasher is quite funky) because I have a food allergy of my own and they do not want me handing food in case I may have an allergic reaction. They were quite shocked when I said that I do not carry an epipen - but as I do not eat the food or handle it then it is unlikely to cause me a problem.

I have to wear a hairnet, a hat and an apron. I look quite swish. I am looking forward to starting my first shift on Sunday (weeks start on Sunday for some reason) and after that I will be working Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There may be opportunities for overtime but I will have to see because ideally I would want to do 25+ hours per week so that I can come off the dole but as overtime is not guaranteed I will just have to suck it up on the dole as I cannot afford to come off it not working 12 hours per week.

Hope all is well with you?

Horace = glad you have got sorted, might sound daft but would it be worth asking re an epi-pen, I know you said you wont be on food prep, but there maybe time when there short staffed and you dig in, or coming into contact with the item (guessing food allergy).
Both me and my daughter have allergies and have to carry epi-pens in case there needed.

was thinking of you earlier, - your prescription, can you apply under low income scheme or have you a medical condition that requires a set of mediciations.
Thou it can be hit and miss, being diabetic i get my prescriptions covered, yet as an asthmatic I need inhaluers yet still had to pay.

  • Horace - So how does that work then, ie working 12 hours per week and not being able to come off the dole?

Think I must have been half-asleep or summat, as I took it that it was a full-time job that you either were or weren't going to get?

It has been many years since I was on the dole - I guess hence my assumption that it was a full-time job. With it being 12 hours per week - then what do you earn for it (ie over and above the dole money you get anyway) iyswim?

Money, I was led to believe by the work programme that it was a full time job but I don't trust them to tell me the truth.

If you are on income based JSA then you are allowed to work for up to 16hrs and still be able to claim but (I need to clarify with the jobcentre because I am not sure about the payment bit) but the jobcentre withhold money except for a fiver because you are considered to have earnt the money already. A fiver is all you are allowed to keep. If you work 16 hours and above then you have to sign off.

I have only been given 12 hours a week because that is what they have available in the section I have been allocated. Some others have been given 30hrs a week but they have been allocated to different sections to me. I cannot change the section and have to go with the decision made by the employer. It could be that I get some additional hours overtime but those are not guaranteed.

I am due to have an appointment at the dole office on Friday with the sensible one so I will clarify with him.

Someone told me today that I was worth more than clearing tables - maybe I am but I see it as a job and I actually like doing it, I still interact with customers and can make recommendations especially as I have memorised all the in-store offers.
  • Fingers crossed Horace that this will all work out for you. I'm just feeling nervous on your behalf and hoping it does...
