    Good morning everyone

It is ages since I've been on this thread. Sometimes real life gets hectic.

I've been on my own a long time now and love it. Though had some interest from someone this summer but it would be complicated so no thanks. Prefer my books and my cat.

My DDs Dad has been up to visit her and she said he wants to talk to you. Bearing in mind we have been divorced 35 years. I agreed and it was mostly for DDs benefit. Would I help her if something happens to him. He lives down south but has no one there. It was a bit weird as He talked about financial stuff and found myself giving him advice and saying it might be better for him to move back up North. For DDs benefit.

Ellie99. I think I know which book shop you visited. Which has made me think about a trip there on Saturday. One can never have too many books. Will the food festival still be on?

Will post again but need to get up for work.

    You guessed right boddy :)

No, the food festival was for one weekend only, so it won't be on.
Still a nice place for a wander round though (if you can close your ears to the noise of the gas mains work going on!)

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • Hi all,

I hope you don't mind me joining you :) A bit of background; I'm newly single after recently splitting up from my boyfriend of two years. It was my first 'proper' relationship, so it hit me quite hard, but almost a month on, I'm feeling a lot more positive about things and have accepted it just wasn't meant to be. It's been a strange last few months with what feels like very bad timing all round. I turned 30 in the middle of August and the Monday after we officially split up we were due to go on holiday, so sadly that just had to be forgotten as it was too late to change it. I spent my week off finding a new place to live, so at least the time wasn't wasted (although a holiday would have been nice!!)

Prior to this relationship, I was single and lived on my own for about 6 years, so although it feels like a bit of a step back, I'm not worried about being on my own at all. I have my gorgeous cat for company too now anyway and amazing support from my friends and family :)

I am moving house in just over a week and am really looking forward to a fresh start and getting back in to various things. Though no ones fault, I felt that I stopped doing what I enjoyed as put everything (and everyone) else first so my hobbies/interests were put on the back burner. Not anymore!

Once settled, my first priority is to complete an accounting course I have been studying for the last 3 years. I'm in my final year and with everything going on, have fallen behind, but I will finish it! It will be nice to have something to focus on :)

I love cooking (and eating) and used to meal plan all the time, so i'll definitely get back in to that as it saved me a fortune. I also love crafting and have all sorts of ideas I want to try once I'm moved.

Anyway, I think that's more than enough for now! I have so much to sort out with the current house i'll be very busy for the next week but will try and check in here when I can :)

Welcome Freakyogre - good luck with the house move.

My neighbour was nagging me the other day to go out and find myself a man, why? I am happier on my own doing my own thing and eating what I want when I want and if I want to eat toast and crisps in bed then I will (not that I do but the option is there). Guess now that I am a lot older I have become selfish and am busy putting myself first and not last all the time.
  • Welcome along Freakyogre. I hope your house move goes smoothly. Shame about your missed holiday though.

Horace - I can see where you are coming from but, at times, I think it would be nice to have someone around (although maybe not all the time!). I'm thinking here of those times when you have had a dreadful week and maybe someone else might cook the supper. To be honest it would be good sometimes for someone to suggest what to have for supper! I know I am cooking for me but sometimes I just don't know what I want to eat.

Then again, it is nice to have control of the tv remote or even to take the decision to listen to music in the evening rather than having to have the tv on.

Rosie Don't get me wrong there are times when I think I need a man around occasionally but I could not put up with one full time. When I had my own business, I went to London to a concert (should have listened to the band member that I did the work for - to book a seat in the Friends & Family box but I thought the theatre was bigger than it was and I wanted a seat in the stalls so that I could see) and that was the only time I felt really lonely and alone - it would have been great to share the experience with someone else.

I love having control of the tv remote - my ex bf used to snatch it up and constantly channel hop...grrr. To be honest I think my neighbour should mind her own business. She was moaning at me that I don't have friends round when I do and that I don't go out when I do (I just don't always take the car), where friends are concerned we don't live in each other's pockets so are not popping in and out of each others' houses all the time.

I might well be going out for lunch one day next week because I have a voucher for a buy one get one free meal, what my pal and I do is split the cost of the paid for meal so we each pay the same and still get two full meals. I don't get these vouchers very often.

Hi freakyogre, what a lovely positive post :)
sounds like you're really going to enjoy your new house.

Re the "find a man" thing...I'd probably think like Horace, maybe I'm a bit jaded with the whole relationships thing, but I don't think I've got the patience or time to give to someone else any more...a new man would take up such a lot of my time...and I'd have to talk more...and cook for him...and lie awake because they snore in bed...
I sound like a right grump don't I, I don't think any man would want me :rotfl:

Not denying it's nice to have someone to go to events with, and someone to do your DIY is nice too (I know, I know, we can do it ourselves, but sometimes I'm just not strong enough)

    Morning everyone

I've not been around much this week as it was back to work for me.

After some advice please. I seem to have become the 'place to be' for what feels like all the spiders in the area  On 3 seperate nights there have been large spiders in the lounge that I've had to deal with :( Then last night, I cam home to find 4 of the little blighters in diff places - albeit smaller than the others (thankfully!). I wondered if anyone has any tips for deterring them?

Off to catch up - have a great day all

    BW :)
