Need some advice please. How to deal with someone who is over eager/keen as mustard?

This chap joined the committee of the Friends group last week as an events organiser - fab, we need one of those to help us organise events, however, he is as keen as mustard and a bit too over eager. I have put in a request to our web geeks (it is a small business with a director, 1 FT member of staff and an apprentice - they are busy) for an email address and maybe a log in for our website (I think I need to discuss this with the web geeks because I don't want this chap to have access to all areas). How do I curb his keenness and eagerness to please? I feel frazzled.

He has asked me to do teas/coffees for a craft fair that he has organised (nothing to do with the Friends group) and says he needs me to have a food hygiene certificate, I haven't done one as I don't plan to go into catering but I feel under pressure to perform - what to do? I haven't even agreed to do the refreshments either.

I hate this feeling of being pulled in several directions at once.
  • Well yesterday's fresh **** has almost finished me off - my oven has given up the ghost :(

Not sure when I'll be able to afford to replace it (since most of my salary is now going to my osteopath :rotfl:). Not sure when I'm going to have the time to go looking for a new one either, since I'll have to go to the big city & the bus service has been cut again last week .

How long can a family of 3 survive without an oven for :D

Any recommendations for decent ovens? Or ovens not to bother with?

The irony that I bought lots of food over the w/e ready to batch cook on my day off tomorrow (since I won't be doing Pilates :rotfl:) isn't lost on me - you have to see the funny side of all the carp don't you?

I sincerely hope that all of you are having a better time of it. Hugs to all :grouphug: but don't return the hug as my back is too sore.....
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • Ovens not to bother with I can help with, ie Z*nussi.

I bought a washing machine from them many years back (ie when it was a Swiss firm) and got 17 years of troublefree service from it. I bought a cooker from them a couple of years ago and...errr....not.....I understand they now manufacture their goods in Italy instead.

Quality of cooker = tinny/numbers rubbing off knobs/metal trim coming off/top oven and grill cant be used as oven because I can literally feel all the heat escaping from round the door edges when I use it as a 2nd oven.

I have a Belling cooker which is fab.

One thing that I used to use (and still do from time to time) is my Remoska - when I lived in a flat I used it all the time because I only had electricity for cooking, heating and lighting which was expensive and Mosky (as I call him) uses very little electricity.
  • So sorry to hear that, JKS. What a tough time you are having just at present.

Sadly, I know next to nothing about cookers, so can't help with recommendations for/against.

Had a lovely weekend and it was nice to do things again! I've spent too many weekends in the last few months waiting around.

I met my dad and step mum on Saturday and we went for a walk in the woods with their dog. Then we went and did a bit of shopping and had some lunch before I returned home to do a bit more packing.

Sunday I met up with my sister and got some more bits for my new place. I'm quite looking forward to getting in there and sorted now.
I finished the day by cleaning the oven, it's all rock and roll here!

Yesterday I had a bit of a blip emotionally. My dad came over to help me take my bed apart and move it downstairs (far too heavy to do on my own) so 'our' bedroom is now empty. I had also been emailing my ex (sounds weird calling him that) during the day - we work together you see. The emails were like we used to send to each other and I couldn't help think 'what if' for a moment. Where did it all go wrong?
It all seems very final now, which of course it is, but I need to concentrate on myself and the future. If things were meant to be, we would still be together, so I have to look at it like that.
4 more nights in the current 'home' and then a fresh start. I can't wait to get out of there now.

JustKeepSwimming - it's funny you say that about pilates. I decided to give a beginners yoga class a go for the last couple of weeks and won't return. I didn't hurt myself, but a lot of the positions seemed to be balanced on toes/lunge position. I've had all sorts of problems with my feet and since having my toes straightened, they don't want to bend in certain ways anymore! So much for a gentle exercise - I shall continue with the combat classes!

Oh dear JustKeepSwimming, sounds like you're at the "laugh or I'll cry " stage. Things can only get better!

I'm another one who wouldn't recommend a zanussi, I really dislike my zanussi cooker, the door is loose and loses heat, and the grill is the slowest I've ever used.

Could you maybe choose one online to save having to travel into town? Or at least check the spec so you know what you're going to look at?
And don't forget second hand sites.

Worrying to hear your pilates stories...my osteopath has recommended I try pilates to strengthen my back, but I'm lazy and have put off doing anything about it. Now I'm wondering if I should!

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

    Hi gang

Not sure I fancy Pilates now I have heard all these tales about it. Tai Chi is good for the back and for your whole core, Nordic Walking is also good - I do both in my local park for free.

Not long back from a meeting, it was quite interesting and trust me to fluff up on the agenda - it came to point 5 development of friends groups so I launched into my usual bit about the friends group and was promptly told that now I need to come under point 10 because I am now an established group. Only I could do something as daft as that.:o Meeting was interesting and I learnt things, I have asked the Environment Agency some questions as I want their help with regard to an old watercourse in the park. I also collected the uniforms that I had asked for (unfortunately, they are plastered with a logo of a certain drinks manufacturer - the one that has a lorry lit up like a Christmas tree that appears around the same time as Christmas). I should be either mowing the lawn (it is long) or tidying the house because I have visitors tomorrow afternoon but I have done neither.

Freaky things will get better with time. Sounds like you are moving onwards and upwards anyway.
  • JKS - re where to buy the cooker (ie when you have decided which one you want) I have now used Boots KitchenDirect twice for items I was after and it worked out as pretty normal service both times (ie what would be regarded as high level service in Britain then....) - one bit of minor inefficiency on the second item I ordered, ie pretty reasonable efficiency level according to the low standards prevalent in this country then...) and I was able to click through inputting my requirements as to make/size/colour/etc of what I required. So you might as well study their website and see what you think...
