    Hello peeps

Well done on Grousescot - you have made a start on the OU study, I am sure you will be brilliant.

Money - loving your roaring mouse.

Winter - I will let folks know how things get on with Ms OnlyInItfortheKudos.

Today, I feel fat - I had planned what I was going to wear for my interview today but as soon as I put it on felt like a huge whale, my bedroom is now covered with skirts and dresses that were tried on and discarded as well as a load of tops. In the end I settled on a navy blue silk skirt with grey spots, a navy blue vest top and covered it with a navy blue cardigan. Managed to crick my ankle so was forced to put a tubigrip bandage on so no heels for me - just flats (which chew my heels).

I feel sure that I haven't got the job - I was given no time to even brush my hair before being stuck in front of a computer (the seat was too low and I wasn't allowed to change it), it was way too bright and had to type with one hand shielding my eyes. I didn't complete the tests either and totally missed one side of the in-tray exercise. I am not sure about the interview - I don't think it went well at all. Anyway they will let me know next week. Apparently I was one of 6 shortlisted people.

I arrived home at 4pm and thankfully I had a tv dinner in the freezer and Mr Ping kindly cooked it for me in 9.5 mins and it took me about 6 minutes to eat it. Am off out later for a meeting - should be fun.

Horace, when will you hear about the job?

I've just read an ad for a cleaning job in the local paper, so I went online to fill in application form and they want a personal statement. ...seriously...

I've heard from the Samar!tans, not sure I will be able to do it whilst working my odd hours, but the introduction meeting is not till Nov, so will probably go along to it. It's quite a commitment, in terms of hours per week and as I'd have a 60 mile round trip I have to weigh it up, once formally retired it will be an option.

Byatt I will hear about the job next week. I don't hold out much hope. I will provide them with feedback.

A 60 mile round trip to do volunteering seems excessive. Certainly go along to the introduction day and weigh it up from there.

I went to another committee meeting tonight - this time for another Friends group (a patch of ancient woodland about 2.5 miles away from me), I was given a lift too. I have been invited onto their committee as a representative. We are going to work on a project together for the new local festival of light.

On Saturday I will be helping out at a local carnival and going on a walk to view an ancient scheduled monument with a local archaeologist - it should be fun. It gets me out of the house and meeting new people.

Grousecot - I always liked it when the mystery OU parcel turned up, what course are you doing. I always use to try to get 2 weeks in advance just incase anything went wrong (with me it always did).

Horace - sounds like a ngtmare afternoon, but even to get to interview stage,

a day of shopping, a visit to Mr T, wasnt too bad as I borrowed there mobility scooter, and got the weeks shopping into the basket, then Mr i, (nippy in the freezer) then home... then tonight picked DD from school and off to a cash and carry, so lucky as our neighbour works there and gave me a friends and family card.

Got a couple of gd deals, (toilet roll, hot choc, fairy tabs) theres a few things on my I want list, chat the neighbour up.

    Digressing completely........
Its weird to think its 13 years since 9/11, I was out in Mexico at the time, i remember seeing the news, I thought I had left the channel on film as i use to put the TV on for company when I got up, remember thinking that film looks like real life, took me about 20 mins to realise it was wasnt a film and was happening,

the 10 yr anniversary - I flew to Prague, and had a security scare at the airport, went to check in and there was a piece of lost luggage, - the check in woman was chatting to her colleague and didnt want to call security as she was due to finish after she checked in the flight... luckly the person came back...

    xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • mum2one Re: 9/11 - Hard to believe that was 13 years ago. I was in Edinburgh that day and was also in Edinburgh yesterday as well.

I was at work when 9/11 happened. The tv was on, and I can remember everything and everyone being totally silent other than the tv.

It's one of those things that will always be stuck in my head, same as the news about Diana.

I have been MIA. Returned to work to find most people throwing up.....needless to say 2 days later I found myself off with the gastro bug too, so have been feeling pretty poo most of this week.

I think we now have 12 staff off with it...!!! I'm on hols week next week, so hopefully it will have gone by the time I go back.

Hope everyone is good, I see I have mountains to try and catch up on which I may get a chance to do tomorrow.

    Have a lovely weekend folks.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Lovely to hear about everyone's volunteering. I think it make us stronger because it helps others. Not everyone is in a position to give time to volunteering, but are doing their best for their family and friends and that is more important.

Sometimes it's worthwhile making a phone call. Just rang Homeserve to cancel my plumbing and drainage insurance as the renewal came through at £186! By agreeing to a £50 excess the cost is now £63 for the year :j
  • Calicocat Sorry to hear that you have been ill.

My employer is offering employees the flu jab this year - I don't know if I should take it or not. I'm asthmatic and got offered it by my GP last year but didn't take it.

MummyBobble Great saving on the insurance! Just remember to have the money put aside for the excess as you never know when you will need to call them out.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

  • Woohoo! I'm on a bit of a roll today. I've just reduced the cost of my building insurance by half with another quick phone call :j
  • Not caught up for a while as I've been stupidly busy at work, & was planning for a lovely w/e away but its been cancelled because I'm single

Yes fellow singlies, I have been blatantly discriminated against but I don't think there is anything I can do but pour myself a glass of red & mop up my tears :rotfl:

I booked a twin room for 2 nights (this Friday & Saturday) months ago through an online general booking system (so not direct with the B&B). I didn't have to pay anything until I got there, but if I didn't show or cancelled with less than 48 hours notice I'd be charged for 1 night. I was told I'd have to pay a single supplement for the room, so it worked out to be £60/night; £40 for me + breakfast & £20 ss. Not happy, but not much choice.

Got an email from the broker late Tuesday which I didn't pick up til breakfast on Wednesday - saying the booking had been cancelled by the B&B due to overbooking. Couldn't get through to the broker so I rang the B&B to check only to be told they'd cancelled my booking as I was a single traveler as they had a couple (bet they're smug marrieds :D) who wanted to book instead & they'd make more money out of them than me.

So how carp do I feel now? My precious w/e is ruined by a B&B owner who thinks I'm a freak by being a single traveler . He even said he thought it was odd to have a woman traveling on her own. It it was because he had concerns for my safety he should thank his lucky stars that we were only on the phone - if I'd been there I'd have whacked him into the middle of next month.

I'd been telling work friends about my planned trip, so had to explain why I wasn't now going so I decided to tell the truth one lunchtime. That then turned into a discussion by some about how odd it was that I still don't have a partner, & aren't I a bit sad for always having to go to places on my own. The underlying thread that there must be something seriously wrong with me.....

I'm really not looking forward to going back to work on Monday, & having to listen to all the others go on about their visits with families/partners etc.

Sorry to put a downer on this thread - I'm off to have a glass of red & chill, & I'll be back later to catch up. Hope all are having a better w/e than me.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
