  • Spent a couple of hours this afternoon with an elderly neighbour who lives on her own. Enjoyed a gossip, and she reckoned I made a good cup of tea. Must do it more often :D

Morning folks.....(well it is for me).

Hope everyone having a nice bank hol weekend.

Tomoto Alert....... I have just snipped off two tomatoes!!!....that are nearly ready to eat!!.....lol.

I know they are late, but i'm really impressed with myself...I grew them from seed (courtesy of byatt...thank you), didn't have a clue what I was doing, got told by people they would probably never form Real tomatoes, also shoved them outside when I got sick of them and the flies in the house so they have had the latest huge winds etc up on the north coast to deal with the last few couple of weeks (the plants do look battered to heck) ...!!.....and there are quite a few more to come if things carry on the way they are......tomatoe sarnies all round......lol.

Christ knows what the idiot peppers are doing...getting a tad bored with them now.....i have 3 million baby peppers that are 'stuck'...so have chopped lots off to see if remaining grow to actually BE peppers. ...dont know how yours are doing LB??

I was talking to a friend about singlies, and she asked what the criteria are to be one, and I suddenly figured that I don't actually know. Is she allowed to have a 'male interest' thing but still lives alone so has all the problems of being single etc and being a single parent...bla bla bla...?

    Or is it a man-free / female zone...?..lol.

What criteria do we have?...I said I would ask you lot.

Edit, I mean man or female free depending on the singlie.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • My personal take on "singlie" means single (and that includes not living together) and, as you say, having all the problems/extra financial worries involved in being single.

I wouldn't say it precludes a "love interest" personally. It's more a frame of mind that says "I'm single and I'm okay with that and not after getting married/living together".

I've known single people (women, but I guess there are men like it too???) who were out to get married for the sake of it and each time they have managed it and then come to grief subsequently. Hence happy in your own skin as a single person would defo be my definition.

Hello - I would have thought that as your friend lives alone then she is to all intents and purposes a singly like the rest of us. Male interests can be fleeting things anyway - as they come and they go.

I managed to do a load of washing today and hang it on the line. Went to the park, I wanted to get blackberries but got distracted, I did come home with some crab apples but will have to go back with a walking stick so that I can hook some branches down.

I was distracted by the metal sheeting which is being laid in our park in readiness for the music festival next weekend. We will have huge lorries coming in with the stage on Monday and one of the fairground rides arrived today - this metal sheeting (like huge square planks that have to be bolted together) protects the ground from being churned up. I had a good natter with the Health & Safety officer - discovered that the chaps will be without drinks or food until their onsite catering team arrives on Wednesday, I am now waiting for the Secretary of the Friends group to return from her hols so that I can gain access to the airpots and our drinks making equipment including plastic cups etc. I offered to make sandwiches but those were declined - drinks though are gratefully received. Need to see the Secretary as she needs to sign some cheques too so that we can pay for instructors for other activities. Don't know how to ask her not to bring her kids around. The last time she came round she bought both of them and the elder one has turned into a brat and was really badly behaved (I would have expected her younger sister to be more of a brat but she was well behaved in comparison) - not sure I could cope with them in my house again.

The application form is nearly finished, just need to add the bit about how my skills match the job description and details of two referees.

Mmm, that's interesting to think about.

I think if you're single, but have a boy/girlfriend, then you can still be classed as a singlie because you have your own house to run/ financial things to cope with.

On the other hand...if you have a partner, even if they don't live with you...you then have (in a good relationship at least), someone to talk to and bounce ideas off when you're making decisions...someone to go out with on nights out... someone to go on holiday with...someone to share a meal out with (and not be refused entry because you're alone :))...someone who's interested in how your day's been...someone to provide a bit of you-know-what!...and someone to go to events like weddings with (a bugbear of mine :))

So I think to be a "hard core" singlie there shouldn't be a love interest, unless it's very casual, because you would have someone to do all the things we seem to find a challenge doing alone.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

Lol, this was kind of my take on it initially, until to be honest I figured she still struggles with the same singlie things on her own, every day shoite, no one permanent to help etc, finances on her own, child care the 'male interest may do very occasionally but can't be relied on etc. She still has to change her own plugs/do the decorating etc.....

On reflection...she still has singlie status, and she may join us.

I hope she does, as she does struggle and I told her there are lots on here with kiddies/vile teenagers and she would get input about kids I can't give her.

Oh she definitely sounds like a singlie calicocat :)

The last time I had a long term relationship (and long distance as well!), I didn't really think of myself as single because although we didn't live together we talked every day, and I had someone to do all the coupley things with.
But you're right, I was still coping with teenagers with no help, still doing my own finances, all the housework, DIY, gardening etc etc.

And thanks to that last guy, I'm now determined to stay a singlie :rotfl:

  • Calicocat, hope your friend joins us, there's a lot to be said for having somewhere to brag, moan, just share what's going on or ask for help and advice, especially when you can't always talk to the people who know you in "real life". LB, thanks so much for starting this thread :-)

Calico, that sounds like my ex husband! and he lived with me...:rotfl:

She would be very welcome :D

Well, saw the police officer, won't say anything publicly as it may go to court and certainly an inquest :(

Congrats on the 2 tomatoes Calico!

Horace, the blackberries down here aren't ripe yet!
