Byatt Sorry to hear about the deaths. So sadA good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Evening all
Just whizzing through as to say hi. I only skimmed the posts - will have to catch up properly over the weekend. Lovely long one too
MB - well done you & your daughter on the exam results

Byatt sorry to hear about the old lady and the cat - hope you are not too shocked/upset.
Was cursing like a trooper earlier - I was making Bolognese sauce and left it on the stove, it stuck to the pan and there was distinctly burnt niff in the air. Managed to rescue it by changing the pan and adding some water to it - when I ate it, it didn't taste burnt.
My arthritic knees have been playing up so I got my granny blanket out earlier and sat on the sofa with the blanket wrapped around my knees whilst I watched the tv. I like that programme sweets made simple - the rose & pistachio Turkish delight looked yummy.0 -
Thank you for your kind congrats on DD's GCSE results :j
Sometimes as a singlie it does seem to be an awful lot of pressure when there's no one there backing you up, whether it's children, decorating, sorting out cars or whatever.
As form delegate for 5 years, sports captain, School Sports Ambassador, full school colours for achievement and dedication to sport, Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award, deputy head girl and the second highest achiever in GCSE results in her school this year (her best friend got one more A* and they've been like twinnies since they were 3 years old in preschool) Just think that she proves that it can still be done :Tand I love her sooooooo much
OK, going to stop bragging for now.:rotfl:and will read through the last couple of days posts xx0 -
MB, you have every reason to be proud; you've done a good job.
I am so sad about the lady killed. Ive since found out that there are no buses at that time of night and if I'd known that I would have waylaid her and asked her in for a cuppa. A PC is calling tomorrow to take a statement from me, I'm probably the last person she spoke to.0 -
MB you have every reason to brag, she's done very well and so have you.
Byatt that is so sad.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Ellie99 - good idea, I shall try moving the plant to the front garden so I won't have to weed it so often. Can you all tell I'm not a gardener?moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »A very quick google revealed 30-40 cm deep and may spread a bit horizontally. I would suspect it equals some of your patio slabs having to come up to get at horizontal root growth.
Reading this first I thought I'd just cut it back down to patio level when its finished flowering, & it'll appear next summer as if by magic. Then I saw -Ooo, my mum has a budleia, I might pinch some and do this as love flutterbys.
I seem to remember my mum having to get one dug out by a professional as the roots were huge.
& WP's post & wonder if that is such a good idea, or whether 3 years down the line my patio will start erupting :rotfl:. Might already be a bit late as its the size of a small tree now....MB, you have every reason to be proud; you've done a good job.

Oh Byatt, that is so sad ( & the cat). I hope giving the statement goes OK - think I'd be a little wobbly during it, as the police always manage to make me feel guilty, even though I haven't done anything wrong. Have a dodgy :grouphug:
MB - you brag away hun, the girl done good! I'm extra chuffed as you've done it as a single parent, & goodness knows we get enough of a slating for causing all the ills of society
Horace - it is certainly starting to turn, isn't it? I had to put on my fleecy dressing gown over my PJs last night - & its still August. Do you have an electric blanket on your bed? I don't have arthritis, but do get back pain sometimes & I find a warm bed helps the pain a lot. Of course its a b u g g e r getting back out of that warm bed :rotfl:
Hope all enjoy their BH - I'm sorting out shoite in my loft trying to find some important paperwork that I've filed in a safe place  I do keep looking at my beautifully organised freezer now I can open the drawers without getting snowed on. How sad am I?& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Thanks JKS, I think that's always been one of my obsessions, that if they don't do well folk will have a "well, brought up by a single mum what do you expect" attitude. Just goes to prove that we can do it as a singlie or whatever else we choose to be :-) and at the end of the day we have to accept and respect what they can acheive. To my mind as long as they put the effort in they will do as well as they can and you can't ask for anything more. DD has a lovely friend who didn't do too well (will have to resist maths and English while she's in college) but she's a sweet, kindhearted girl and how you treat other people is important. We can't all be academics!0

Although very pretty buddleahs can be very invasive. They need to be kept in check. The seeds will take root anywhere and new plants can colonise and destroy masonry and brickwork etc
My son bought a house with a buddleah growing out of the guttering, it had grown downwards forcing its way through the brickwork - cost us a small fortune to repair the damage.
We destroyed the parent tree.
If you do decide to grow buddleahs don't let them seed, cut the flower heads off as they start to fade and go brown before they go to seed.
Well done yo your daughter MB.0 -
JKS I do have an electric blanket but I haven't used it for 2 years (it was one of the useful things that my ex bf bought me along with an ironing board). I do have a winter weight duvet on the bed and a sheet under that as well as a bottom sheet and a mattress protector. The central heating has been on again today too. It doesn't feel like August.
Did a load of washing this morning and when I went out to wipe the line down, I noticed a huge black cloud so decided to hang the washing in my bedroom close to the radiator - good job I did because it has chucked it down most of the day.
Forgot to go shopping and remembered when I came to make my sandwich for tea that I had run out of buttery spread so had to have a dry sandwich. Really need to get myself sorted out - I didn't have my lunch til 3pm, I had the rest of the spag bol that I cooked last night.
Tomorrow, I need to finish this application and send it off (it is taking for ever because I keep having breaks away from it), need to wash hair, do some housework and go for a walk over the park to see how the set up for the music festival is coming along. Last year our Friends group got given some free tickets but this year I haven't asked for any. Don't see the point when last year I didn't go (oh I went but as soon as I heard the persistent adverts from the sponsoring radio show, I couldn't stand it so I had to leave before the first act even set foot on the stage). Hope to go and pick some blackberries tomorrow and also investigate this apple tree.0
