OS Singlies - We Do It Our Way!

re the hen-do, it seems a double edge sword, for me i would be be still in the air, my last hen do was a night round town but nowadays they seem to be anything from a meal out to a week in Spain, so I guess a weekend in bristol seems a better option, one thought how old is the bride, I'm thinking the age may give a guage to the type of activity.
Money wise - at the mo its £150 planned for the weekend, then adds on seems £300 seems to be a target figure... with it beig next yr could you look at trying to balance the books by earning the money by surveys, cashback, ebay etc - that way it doesnt come out of the budget.
Not being married I can't answer how I had a hen ngt, but two ocassions when I organised events, DDs christening, in the end she had 3 godmothers and 3 godfathers, - apart from 2 were family members the others were choosen on closeness to them, and then when I had my 40th I took some friends and family out for sunday lunch, the friends were friends that meant a lot. I would work the hen party on the same basis, but that could be just me thou xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Flying visit as busy at vile work, just thought I should share this gem....
National PJ day is march 12th apparently.
Just thought it was really important info for a lot of us here....lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I'm sure you may be thinking by now well you seem to have your answer. However, in the spirit of trying new things this year and doing things outside of my comfort zone, I am wondering whether I should just suck it up and take the plunge?!
Any any advice, comments, suggestions would be welcome
Well i'm going to play the positive bunny here, and say that if you don't try it, u'll never know.
Byatt has good points about meeting them prior to the event too a couple of times, you will get to be more relaxed in their company, plus find out if you think you will feel you fit in and would enjoy it etc.
Work has gone quiet for a bit.....so i'm off to google wet/dry suits.....lol......you never know if you don't try.....lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Has the dyslexia struck?
Can find no mention of pj day in march, but something very close on the 14th march, if you ignore the steak bit
Google suggest later on in year for pj day, April 16th?0 -
BW, I don't think she's invited you to make up the numbers or because she felt obliged. She must want you there, because the hen night imho, is a time when she would want her friends around her.
+1, go and enjoy it. Sometimes I think we singlies can be more apprehensive about friendships than other people are. People I barely spoke to at school have been surprisingly friendly when bumping into them years later, certainly friendlier than I would have expected or would have been.0 -
this is going to sound so daft but I have had some 1st's in the last few days...
Filled up the petrol by taking the pipe over the car - normally pull up to the side.
Put a shelf up (technically half did it) as putting it back up, - just had to take screws out wall, and then the bits.
That seems so daft in comparison to what you all do with the houses, but when someone always done it, it feels like a wow factor moment, xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Lol, no, nothing to do with the dyslexia, a friend just mentioned the date...?, i'm assuming they have got it wring then. Odd....his wife is in pj's 24/7 when not at work so I figured he had date right and didn't check it out.....lazy mare....lol.
Edit... just google it and found it, it's obviously when the schools had a national pj day....cant post links on a phone, but if you put date in first and the pj day it comes up.....maybe the date changes every year then.
Edit again...Mum2one...not daft at all, I put a blind up the other day...never done before (the wrong way round I hasten to add), and filling up the car from opposite side is a relatively new thing for me too....lol. I have avoided that for years for some reasson....lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. Even odd little DIY things done for oneself merit a pat on the back in my book. I may have done major renovation work on my house recently, but it was basically in a supervisory capacity (rather than a doing-it-myself category) iyswim.
My side of the renovation tasks has been making the (endless) cups of tea/finding the blimmin' workmen in the first place/trying to keep a straight face when they honestly think they're good (but I know they're comparing themselves with only a small number of other workmen in this rural-ish area and "No, they aren't good"), trying to get tasks done to even (my) normal standard (ditto = small number of firms to choose from) and all the darn cleaning-up afterwards.
Stage 1 renovation work finished for some weeks now, but I've got a major Stage 2 task coming up later this year on the house. After that, I don't know when I will be able to finish the house off, as I estimate that will cost around £20,000 and I don't know how long it will take me to get that amount of money together (the only certainty being that I'm still having all my spare income nicked off me at the moment, before I even receive it, for a while yet by our own Government = courtesy of that darn "revised State Pension Age").
Once I have the rest of my income back again, then I can start putting the money to one side to finish the house off.
Note to Government = "I DO hope you're spending the rest of my income wisely on my behalf"....yeh right.....0 -
BW, I don't think she's invited you to make up the numbers or because she felt obliged. She must want you there, because the hen night imho, is a time when she would want her friends around her. It may surprise you and be a lovely time, even though I understand your reluctance...it's also a long time to go, and I can usually change my mind a dozen times in that space of time, whereas if it was a couple of weeks or so, even a month, I can gauge (sp) how I would maybe feel.
Could you get together before then and meet some of her other friends for coffee/drink? Is she having her mother/future mil there, will it be mixed ages?
I hope you are right, but I have been invited to things like this in the past and have been simply a (rather distant) work colleague. I kind of got the impression lots were invited to bump up numbers. But hopefully this is not the case (though it makes it easier to bow out, if it is).
A good idea to find out more about the make up of group going, though. And definitely find out what activities are planned - depending on what these are, they could bump up the costs significantly e.g. using the hotel for massages/pedicures etc.
There's no right and wrong in this, we'd all approach it differently, depending on past experience and budget. But find out more, BW, and then let us know :rotfl:
Ugh! Monday morning....

I've just realised I'm not an authority on hen parties :rotfl:, having only ever been invited to one, which I didn't go to plus I didn't have one of my own!
Not sure if it's a generation thing or I'm just weird
Mum2one, isn't it funny how we avoid the opposite side on the car when getting petrol...I've just started to do it, after realising I was waiting ages for a pump for the same side! It still stresses me though as I keep thinking it won't stretch!
The day I put up my first flat pack after the divorce I was like this :T:T:T, admittedly the hinges were wrong, but overall it was ok...got such buzz from it.0
