I'm on the cant sleep mode... been a night of nights, DD went out with some friends, came back with the one girl, then she went home, suggested that DD walk her half way home, 7.30pm, - 8.15pm no DD started worrying, she comes in sobbing her heart out, course I'm imaging the worse... it was bad but not the way I thought
on way back home, crossed the road to our road, then she heard screech of brakes, and saw this lady run over a cat, - the cat was badly injured, and from DDs description, crunch, the cat shaking, then stopped, lots of blood from its head, - the woman stopped picked up the cat and asked DD if she knew where the nearest vets was, DD - couldn't remember the name of our vets (5mins away), but sent in the right direction.
DD been in hell of a state, been sick, hysterial, gone back into herself, shes blaming herself that as she couldn't remember the vets name thats why the cat died, if she had been there 5 seconds earlier she could have stopped the cat. It broke my heart, to see her upset, we've tried everything, she fell asleep she was so exhausted, but shes tossing and turning like no-ones business.
Shes's been through so much, and she's just started to be allowed some freedom, unfortunatly shes never been allowed freedom other kids same age have had, as shes been threatened with abduction, figured shes going to secondary school in Sept, and she's sensible enough, carries phone etc, that I have to let her try to have a normal life.
Sorry for the long post - just beside myself with worry xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
moneyistooshorttomention - re the communal charge. Surely if it was something you had to pay then it would be mentioned in your deeds? If it is not (and if it wasn't mentioned before you bought, then I guess it isn't) then you do not have to pay. Getting your somewhat forceful neighbour to accept it is slightly more difficult. At the end of the day though, if it isn't a legal requirement and you can't afford to make a charity donation (which is what this is in effect), then you don't have to. Without knowing what it is, then it may be that it is something that one of your neighbours is responsible for and they have just persuaded everyone else to chip in. It is a little unfortunate you paid up the first time as that may have encouraged them to think you will pay in future.
Mum2one - sorry to hear of your daughter's horrid experience yesterday. If the driver was responsible enough to take the cat to a vet (and there are a lot who don't) then the cat has the best chance. I hope she is more settled this morning.
Up early here this morning as the naughty tortie cat felt she needed her breakfast at 5.01. Cue much scratching at the bedroom door and loud howling. I hate giving in to her (don't want to encourage such behaviour!), but you certainly can't sleep through it. Still, it does mean I have done some paperwork for my second job and e-mailed it out, before I set off to my main job.
Hope everyone is well and welcome to the new singlies joining in (or re-delurking!). The more the merrier as it is great to hear about others' experiences.

I have been thinking about your comment and I shall investigate that thought. I think it may well be that its something AN decided upon and then decided they thought others should share the cost with them. If they are the one who decided on it, then indeed its up to them alone to pay it, rather than telling others they have to "chip in". I shall investigate a bit on that, but I think you may have "hit the nail on the head".
Guess that didn't really occur to me, because I automatically "ask" other people if they wish to chip in too for things and if they don't want to, then it doesn't happen and I accept that. Shouldn't have assumed other people are the same should I? I'm such a "pay my way" fairly sort of person, that I sometimes don't see "freeriders" coming....naïve 'r us here I guess on this occasion...0 -

I'm an analyst for the civil service which involves sitting in front of a computer most of the day.
It is finding something that doesn't take up too much time each week that is the problem. I work FT for the local council and would only be prepared to do a couple of hours volunteering after work once a week but it is hard to find something. I was thinking about volunteering at the Guides but haven't done anything about it as yet.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

If you have any pine/willow/poplar etc. it is fine to burn but will spit.
Best way to get wood is to surreptitiously carry home a 'stick' (read branch/tree - whatever you can get away with) every time you go for a walk and saw it up when you get home
Logs bought in garden centres chains or from petrol stations are crap, if you can (and here's hoping you're not in the middle of a city) see if any of your local nature reserves/parks sell firewood - they normally do a bag if you ask nicely. Every site i've ever worked on has done firewood be it council, wildlife trust or national trust.
The only things I wouldn't burn in a small fire are yew and laurel - they honk and are a bit toxic
Thanks for the info....i'm always having to chop ivy off my back fence, so will dry it out and keep for kindling.
And you are not kidding about shop logs being crap, I put one on after I had used some coals for the cooking......smoke everywhere.....you would have thought the whole house was on fire. So bad I took it out and put it out before next door complained, and the rest of the estate. They were meant to be seasoned, but my memory of log fires in my house a few years ago didn't smoke like that!...but I got those from a company in bulk.
I will also be hunting logs for myself, and assume I have to keep for a year before I use them....will google this.
Good news about the ivy though as it will be great kindling, when I tried googling this I couldn't find an answer ...so thanks for the reply.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Mum2one.......how horrible for your DD, I hope she is feeling a bit better today.
RPP.......my lovely tortie has been doing the very same thing this morning, and at the same time. I managed to semi ignore her until around 9ish.....and threw a slipper and bra at her, which she seemed to find funny and not annoying.
Weather here a bit poo, and looks like rain for the day. I really should clean the house a bit, but not sure I can be bothered. Still need to get script made up, and food shopping in at some point, so may have to haul arris out later....oh and still need to check ruddy bank account to see where the heck i'm at this month with the smakeroonies.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Personally I've found Guides is fun and they are always keen on volunteers round hereWe have taken the girls on trips and on a camp this year, and believe me I am not a natural camper
:D I got a lovely thank you from one of the girls after the recent camp and I was so glad I went. It's converted me too, I've just bought a tent and booked a couple of nights away with a friend next week. Whereabouts in the country are you?
There is loads of info on their website btw and you can apply to be a volunteer on there. There are different options depending on how involved you want to be.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I live in Scotland.
I'll look into this but it would depend on where the nearest unit is as I work full time and don't drive (the bus services are a bit rubbish about here after 7pm). I could ask my dad to give me a lift but also want the option of being able to get there under my own steam if need be.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Thank you everyone your kind words, DD seems better today, think it was more shock than anything. Thou from the sounds of it, it was too late for the vets, but at the lady stopped and tried.
We've had her school play tonight, it was a take on Aladdin, it was good, the kids and the teachers worked really hard.
so sweet, I was on the PTA at the school and thought I would have to leave as DD moves to secondary, while tonight the head came across and asked would I consider staying on at the PTA, as they go as a "friends of..." rather than the PTA title, it means that they can get around me not having a child there. Really sweet, and so nice, as only helped 8 months.
Hope everyone ok, weather looks very bleak at the mo, me feels a muggy night on the books xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
