Another YAY for the weekend - & only 5 more days to get up for school :j
No garden action going on here - now't left for the slugs to munch except Geraniums, so that will be what I'll have to plant forever more I think. Even my Buddleia has keeled over after refusing to flower & I thought that was foolproof :rotfl:
The only action my bed sees is when one of kids snuggles into it while watching a DVD & munching on something (all without my consent of course) & I have to sort it all out
Not a lot planned for the w/e here, just the usual carp of chores & feeding what seems like a small tribe a least twenty times a day. Optimistically got a new library book yesterday which I have added to the pile of other, unread, renewed library books by my bed :rotfl: One day.....
Hope all are doing well & are glad it's Friday & as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Talk with mum went better than expected. Apparently the few bits not done when I went home last week, did not get done. Mum was unable to move on Saturday. The friend who had come to help move cakes (and take her to have a chat with a few people) just took the cakes. Mum has had problems in the week and had realised she had probably put back my recuperation so she seems to have accepted that this is it - no more cake marathons.
She said she had thought that as she had improved so much since last year, she would be able to do it and hadn't realised how many things she had started (or put on her in-head list). Also agreed about lack of organisation (no list, no priorities, missing ingredients, me standing in the tiny kitchen with a tray of hot cakes shoving miscellaneous toiletries out of the way in order to have somewhere to put them to cool - on top of the drawers on the far side of the fridge-freezer ie nearly in the bathroom) and accepted that if she had ended up in hospital or back where she was a year ago, this would increase the burden on Twin grand-daughter, especially as partner is becoming more difficult to manage.
I also said that baking together should be fun (even when it is hard work) and that at no point last week did it feel like fun. She didn't send the 16 portion Paul Hollywood mousse thing she made me do twice but the grateful recipients thought it was wonderful - tasted great but didn't make the "It's not my fault. I'm a virgo, I can't help it" test - although the 'hat' cake/biscuit things we persuaded her to send were pounced on.
Decided to leave the 'is mum getting out on her own regularly' and is it time partner's other 4 children did more (one son and 2 grand-daughters doing lots) till next week. Twin in f-t work is hopefully going to take partner for a long drive tomorrow so that mum can rest and have a shower in peace.
Had a running round - well 'hobbling' - day. Had decided I needed the all day any bus ticket so packed in buying extra diy bits (DS1 had to wait for a parcel, but had promised to come and do some of the jobs on his list if it was delivered early in the day - he's 2 bus rides away now), collecting recycle bags from the town hall, dropping off library books and cs donations and (4 bus hop) collecting my repeat prescriptions - had to keep looking at the list as I didn't quite believe how much I had crossed off.
Trying to give myself some mini-challenges for this month so 1 item per day de-cluttered (preferably out of the front door) and trying to have fresh chopped raw veg in the fridge (too many bad snacks so far) as I need to get the healthy eating back on track, especially as I get increasingly busy.
My bed has seen quite a lot of action - but not when I have been in it. My sons are very good at picking up waifs and strays. One of DS3's friends lived with us for nearly 2 years and we also had two homeless kids staying for several months. We had numerous young people staying at weekends (up to 11) and even when we put all the old mattresses in DS3's room (he and DS2 managed to break several beds over an 18 month period) we sometime struggled to accommodate them all. Still it could have been worse - one weekend we had 2 heavily pregnant girls staying. I kept telling myself I would cope if I had to (maternity facilities all 8+ miles away but the ambulance station is only round the corner) but I was very glad when they went home/ to temporary homes. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Mothernerd......your place sounds a bit like mine used to be when I was younger.....a drop in centre! However mine was not on your scale at all, but had various friends 'stay for a short while' that ended up for months or years.
Only quickly read stuff so will have to catch up later.
OMG.......well last week was an absolute blast and a laughter riot. only downside is that I can't walk properly!....lol. yesterday was the worst, so hopefully i'll be better again by tomorrow. I have slept 12hrs solid.....lol.
No-one got any limbs broken, but one bloke left day one something to do with hiss ribs ( don't know what as he was not in my group)...i'm hoping he hasn't broken them!!
To be honest, the whole course is tame compared to how it used to be....thank god as physically I wouldn't have coped how it used to be being so unfit now. having said that, there were folk less fit than me....so that's always good....lol. People are going to have to get with the plot more with it though, as at the moment there isn't really a pass or fail as they keep doing it with people until they get it, but soon they are going to be bringing in a pass/fail, to it. I don't mind that as my technique is fine which is the important bit, as when you do it for real your adrenalin is pumping and fitness doesn't play such a big part as you just don't feel it at the time.
The guys doing the course we're an absolute riot though, which always helps when doing any training. People learn much more when they are having fun.
In fact i'd rather do that again week after next rather than going to work.
Latest rumour at work is that apparently we will be closing before this year end....but there are so many rumours you just have no clue what to believe. To be honest i've had this with the last ward, then the one now, for over two years I think now on and off....and worrying about what's coming is frankly getting more than a tad boring.
Hobbling off to do some washing....lol. Anything I do today is going to take longer than normal....Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Mothernerd - I thought my life was on the frantic side, but you put me to shame
. Sounds like some things have changed for the better though, so that is good news.
I'm having a sneaky me-time morning as DD is still in bed & DS was staying out with Scouts last night (& wasn't up at stupid o'clock to wake the rest of the house). Can hear some stirring upstairs, so I guess it's nearly over. Am determined to have a rest though - DS is at a party tomorrow afternoon, so the signs are looking good.
Still quiet on here - I think Byatt was taking some time off from t'internet, but where is everyone else? Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine....& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

I'm here. Just keeping quiet as my life seems to be very uneventful and not really worthy of sharing.....I also can't think of anything wise to say to those with lots going on0
-
I think LB has been really busy with stuff and a bit fed up so is possibly also taking a t'internet break for a few days.
I shall find out tomorrow as going to pester her and go visit the girls and do hen bathing if necessary. Looking forward to it, as now I know some hens on a personal level, I need a 'girl fix' every now and then. Also new mad kitten will be more bonkers so will get to see more of her I would imagine...last time she had just had injections and was sleepy.
If my muscles will take it and the weather is ok I shall mow the lawn before I go to take the girls some grass to route around in.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I've been wondering how Lavender Bees is doing...
CALICO
Those "rumours" are something that I used to find were quite common back in the days when I was still working. To my mind, I came to the conclusion that there were two basic reasons for these rumours:
1. It suited management for all sorts of rumours to be flying around, as people would be much more likely to be "nervous of their own shadows" and anyone who felt they could get a job elsewhere might well try and do so. With that, management would save the cost of redundancy payouts and the effort etc of working out just who to make redundant. Think of it...if you've got 10 people and want 5 for instance and 5 obligingly take themselves off to find another job then that makes life easier/cheaper for management.
I tend to think that those people management most DONT want might be the likeliest to hear "rumours", with the hope they will be scared out of the door into another job.
My last employer was positively Machiavellian in deliberately creating rumours at regular intervals and so I just got thoroughly cynical about them in the end and openly described them as "paper tigers".
2. There are always people around who like to feel Important and sometimes like to drip feed any tiny little titbits of information they have, in order to be able to be The One Who Knows (apparently). These people often deliberately get fed "titbits", as a very handy conduit for scaring people out imo.
I was certainly aware that, if I actually wanted some information to get right round the (fair-size) workplace I had that I had a little mental list in my head of about 5 people I would instantly tell and know it would be right round the office by the end of the day;) (well...you might as well use managements own tactic straight back in return:rotfl:).
So, make all possible preparations just in case (as I know you are doing anyway) and then try and ignore these rumours I reckon.0 -

Lol......so true. I have a few people who if you want something out there just mention a whisper of it and it's practically national news by lunchtime....lol.
To be honest, in this case it is coming from other sources, sources more likely to know as they will have to have things in place to be able to cope with the closures....but, what will be will be, i'm so bored of it now I can't in a way be bothered to give it much head space other than making my own plans for the lack of finances etc.
Stufff the lot of them....lol.
I know there is a thread for it, but to be honest I haven't the energy to go hunting it and be on too many threads at once doing this on a phone....so I will post a list of things to get to last a year or two in prep for it, and if any of you guys have nothing better to do you can give me other ideas. I'm not looking at food at the moment.
W.up.liquid
W.tabs and conditioner.
Cleaning products.
Shampoo and conditioner.
Cat litter and food.
Candles.
Batteries and fuses.
Car stuff...screen wash/de-icer etc.
Toilet roll and kitchen roll.
Light bulbs.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I would add to that list Calico other basic cosmetic products, eg soap, moisturiser. If you're still in "that" agegroup, then sanitary protection. Have replacements in for basic household items (eg kettle, toaster, cafetiere).
Don't forget matches for those candles.
Make sure you are well-stocked up with basic clothing (eg tights/socks/knickers/spare slippers).0 -
Kettle and toaster i'm not bothered about, as have a grill, and short tern could use a pan if I was bothered, but to be fair I drink a lot of water and not loads of hot drinks. Moisturisers and beauty products go off, and i'm allergic to lots of stuff so would avoid that...but you have reminded me I could get the bath stuff I use for my skin so I don't get any allergies....which has in turn made me think of medicines.....so thanks for the input.
Clothes...I could set up a shop......lol....but could stock up on a few more bras.
Yes....matches is a good idea too.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
