  • Thanks.

Any further thoughts on how much electrical appliances cost to run welcome:). Am now wondering about my washing machine, as I've been using that a lot more than normal since moving here one way and another.

It might be worth getting hold of an energy monitor (I get one as part of my electricity contract) so you can see where the money is going. I know mine was expensive this year as I had to use electric heating for a bit, and the immersion heater, and the tumble dryer a lot more than usual.

MITSTM Running the washing machine at 40 degrees for one hour would cost about 15p.

The cost of running the machine will vary as it will depend on the length of the cycle/temperature etc.

I can't post links on a phone, but if you google....How much do household gadgets cost to run....you should come up with the This is Money site and it lists how much a year to run things.

    Just dashing in and out.....
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

MSTM - my library has these to borrow for free :money:& it helped me cut down on things. The bright halogen lights can cost quite a bit if you have a lot of them (as I do in my dark kitchen :rotfl:).

My shockingly built 3 bed semi costs me £71 pcm for gas & electricity, which is for me & 2 kids who still don't really like washing as much as they should.

I have the Sunday evening blues - usually I'd be ironing work clothes with a glass of wine to help ease the process, but I've no wine in  & no clothes to iron since my washing machine refused to play nicely on Friday. Not a word yet from the "approved engineer " but if he hasn't been in touch by Tuesday I'm going to cry.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

...So, I'm working on a plan. I have copies of 2 sets of full blood tests, Jan and now June...my thryoid is steadily increasing, and the January test had a note saying I should be tested every 6 months. I was never told this, and this recent blood test was for the hair loss not because they should have done it. They didn't include 2 important thyroid tests (T3 and T4 I think). My oestrogen is very low, but he said that levels out with the average testostorone. I also have slightly high white blood cells. And something else.

Anyway, the plan...I will research thryoid, have done a bit and it seems common to ignore lower readings than 10, I need to ask about HRT or equivalent and would it make a difference, maybe change my dr which is difficult because it's just the one practice. And I'm looking at wigs. :D There are loads out there! Who knew.

I *know* it's not the worst thing that can happen to me, but it feels it right now. Oh he suggested that I have another test in 6-12 weeks, I think he'd prefer the 12 weeks as he said thyroid takes ages to increase, it's not a sudden thing. He only suggested that I think because of the deer look I had.:o

edit, and to add insult to injury I have to have a smear test this afternoon

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with all of this Byatt (& your later post-smear post has made me slightly worried as I'm just about to book an appointment for one :D). This seems to be a common theme from ladies I've spoken too over the years when working in health care. This American article gives a good overview of one physician's opinion, although there are lots of different opinions around :rotfl:.(I'm not saying he's absolutely right, & I'm no longer qualified to give any kind of medical advice, but it does explain things well IMO). I hope you get more support from your GP - it is hard for them to step out of the TSH/T4 testing line though.

    Modern wigs are fab.
I haven't posted recently as have been struggling and don't want to inflict on you all. But also, I've been thoroughly unsettled by talk of upping sticks and travelling the world, and at the same time, one of my lovely neighbours has sold her house and moved into temp accomodation until she decides what she wants to do...

You don't ever inflict anything on us LB - we're all here to support each other & we all have different stresses & problems at different times. You've been supportive to me (& many others) when I've needed it, so please keep posting if you think it will help you.

I hope I understand what you mean when you say this - I often feel I don't want to burden the few friends I have in real life, so keep myself separate from them when I'm having a worse time than usual, even though they usually tell me not to. It seems to be my default setting, IYKWIM? I also find it hard to be truthful & to admit to all the things that seem to be going wrong in my life, when they appear to be having such great lives. Don't misunderstand me, I know they have their problems too, but they do seem to live easier lives than me :rotfl: & they comment that I seem to have be born unlucky. But they all have partners & close family support, whereas a lot of us don't, & as we all know, that support can make a huge difference.
But I can't help thinking there's a bit more to life then being in my PJs at 6.30 on a Saturday night after yet another day full of chores, and yet another week full of shoite work..

Oh I hear you on this one, sista!

I don't know how to get all the "extras" into my life - things others seem to have the time to do. I'm often left with a feeling of absence without really knowing what this absence is if that makes any sense?

Don't be too harsh on yourself though LB, you've had a lot of carp to deal with.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Believe me, the mood I am in, would have you all flinching away from me, if I really said what I feel at the moment :rotfl:

I've just been saying to Calico that frankly whoever said that about fairy tales and dreams was ...em...well rather patronising and sanctimonious...not quite the words I used...but you'll get my drift...:rotfl:. Often dreams and fairytales are all that keep me dragging myself out of bed and into another bloomin day.

But, yes, I am tired of hearing how other people seem to have lovely relaxed weekends, time to wander, time to read the paper even...Wow! what a novelty that would be. I still have Saturday's paper from 5 weeks ago to open, and optimistically bought another one last Saturday just to add to the pile

The absence of "something" is a good way to describe that feeling that none of us can really articulate. My issue is that I can't live two lives, one with the security I crave to allow my soul to be content, and the other with the adventure my soul needs to grow.

Anyway, mid life crisis? Perhaps. All I know is I feel suffocated with rut, and chores, and that infernal absence of something! at the moment, and something needs to change.

Possibly just a small something, but definitely something.

Thanks for listening JKS, I appreciate it. I thought my plea was lost in the ether.

    LB xx
