Hi folks. Sorry but just popping in for a quick whinge. Work is pants and I am (once again) a woman on the edge

Last year we had to take a cut in hours or one of us would be made redundant, a couple of months ago we were given out hours back. Most of us work part time and when we agreed to the cut in hours we all took one full day off a week. Now we are being told that we have to work every morning. Not a happy ship but apparently nothing we can do about it... Seriously considering a change.

On a more positive note DD has finished her GCSEs :j

Off to take her to tennis and pick DS up from tennis to drop him off for football training - I'm another one with a rock and roll lifestyle! :rotfl:

I'll read about 500 posts later. Welcome to all the new singlies:beer:

Running in to say Hi, welcome to another newbie, many thanks to BW for the donation and well done on the prize!, and bye...running very very late so must go and see if the chooks are ok.

Happy to see so many posts, and so much singlie support going on. You all make me laugh and wince with your stories,...but mostly laugh. I reckon I could pick you all out in a lineup as I think we all write as we speak.

Hope back later. There is something I MUST do tonight, but I can't bloomin remember what it is!!

    xx

    Calico,

Re the horse "doings" for the garden...I've quite often read that horse manure has to have sufficient time to "ripen" before it can be used. That is, not to use it straight after its been deposited so to say. The thought wouldn't have even crossed my mind as to whether it was illegal to pick the stuff up...if I wanted it I would just take it personally, as its basically dirt/rubbish in everyone's eyes.

HowwouldIknow as I'm such a newbie gardener...but that message sunk in when I was wondering about it myself. That reminds me, ie that I must go and check how my take on "food for the garden" is doing (being that I've stuck a load of nettles to soak in water and plan on draining off the water and using that). I understand comfrey is also good for that, but I haven't yet found any comfrey round here (darn it). So, in your position, if you have somewhere to leave horse manure to rot its way down to suitable "done" status, then that would be one thing. However, I imagine you haven't got that, so maybe you could have a go yourself at soaking nettles and/or comfrey and making yourself some plant food that way??

Also, I've got a recently set-up wormery out in the garden, but am not at all convinced that's working as an idea, because any time I try turning the tap on it and waiting for that rich liquid to come out to feed my plants with, I get zero/zilch/nada and am wondering if all the worms have emigrated behind my back.

So, right now, I'm working on permaculture-ish type idea of remove weeds and leave in situ on the soil chopped up a bit to get the nutrients in them re-absorbed. It's an experiment in progress that is....

I've never seen anything like the rate plants grow here and have spotted plants that I expect to be half my height being taller than me here. Unfortunately, that includes the weeds too.....

On a very different front, I've now had 2 people whoshouldknow locally telling me that they are astonished at the price I paid for the house (as in they think it was worth noticeably more, even in "heck of a wreck" condition I bought it in). Huh???? Is now checking to see if I've inadvertently bagged me a bargain...I don't think so somehows....but it would be nice if I had.....

If I've inadvertently bagged me a super-bargain, then I could be changing my location..but I cant honestly see that I have paid less than houses like this normally cost. Do NOT get hopes up Money I tell myself...but hey right now...the sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, the veggies are growing and all is the "peace and quiet" I came for and I'm breathing the fresh air I also came for. I really hated knowing every breath I took was basically pure diesel/petrol fumes where I came from. I haven't choked visibly that many times since moving (though it does happen still darn it), and it does help a lot to be able to take a deep breath without wondering if it will help make me ill (and is certainly very unpleasant anyway). Am definitely a fan of being able to take in a lungful of air when I breathe, rather than car fumes.

This is what Wales meant to me...ie that I can pretty much rely on my "peace and quiet" in my own home and can take a breath of air without choking on car fumes...so hopefully all will work out...

I agree with MITSTM - can't see that it would be an issue at all picking up the horses mess. If anything you are doing the council a favour! Go for it

Aright....must must must get some dinner on the table here....

...but have been googling around and found various YouTube variations on "why I am here" and aint gonna pick a specific one for various reasons....but what I am here for is pretty much encapsulated in "I cant forget my Wales"...of which there are various clips on YouTube for anyone wondering just why I'm here (which does include me at times too.......:rotfl:)

It turns out that was one way to turn a solicitor distinctly mushy at heart then...as I've been arranging to ensure that "all my worldly goods" are left to a Welsh cause as and when.....talk about "one big beam" on said solicitors face when I said that is what will be happening come the time...

LB - did you get your quiet weekend?

My weekend was quiet in the sense that I didn't really speak to anyone and simply plodded through my chores, very slowly for me. I was just so bloomin deep down tired. But I still didn't get the afternoon nap or sit down I promised myself :o

I just never seem to stop, never seem to have the time to stop. I could ignore some of the chores, but that will simply make life more difficult during the week.

I went to work like a zombie yesterday as I still can't seem to settle. Sleeping well seems a distant dream, if you forgive the pun. I was improving but have regressed right back. I hate this feeling of vague anxiety that surrounds me. Can't seem to shake this slight feeling of dread.

Ah well, I'm sure I will come out of it again...just got to be patient!

Thank goodness I remembered what I had forgotten...that's the thing with being a singlie, no one here to remind you...but it was only feeding and watering my container plants. The dead look of one or two reminded me :rotfl:

The fluffy-butts are fine but one has stopped laying...they aren't confessing, but I am suspecting Mabel...not sure why. She just looks like the one...:rotfl:

Well, I still feel like I've forgotten something vital :p.

Hey! habit has me almost automatically thinking of getting a biscuit or something. I hadn't realised until I stopped for this charity thingy that I actually go and nibble on something quite a lot ...food for thought!

And on that terrible pun, I'm off to bed with a cuppa. Sleep tight, Everyone. Sweet dreams

    LB xx

Not sleeping well, weird dreams, and general anxiety.....all totally normal LB. It will come and go for a while, then be gone in time.

Re: horse poo....nope, no place to store it, glad you posted that as I would have just shoved it around the plants fresh so to speak. I will try the nettle thing though, my soil is krap here, quite clay, and the between that and the wind...things can struggle.

MTSTM.....quiet and good air are two very good reasons to stay put. I have to say that I love the fresh air of the coast.

Idiot cat seems ok now and no more being sick.

Today was going to be chill day, but am now on standby incase friend gets a meeting arranged with people re: daughter, for me to go with her as it's all doing her head in again....bless.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Phew I'm shattered so just popping in quickly to say hi.

I've had a day playing tourist. Have been to see some local castles and stately homes and had a lovely lunch at a local produce kitchen place. The weather turned out to be very warm and think I may even have caught some sun

Think I will def sleep tonight - fresh air always seems to do that to me

Hope you are all ok whatever you have been up to

Calico - did you get a chill day or were you called away?

Ahh my first full length shift today, after three months off , and as a senior in a new unit, so all new service users names and care plans to learn , new routines , I think my head may explode ... But on a plus note, I pulled up a member of staff on some not good practise and the rest of the staff all found a moment to say thank you, and to say they are looking forward to working with someone who is proactive.. Now I know why my manager asked me to go there,, lol.
So for me it's a cuppa, a chill out hour of reading after watering my veg then bed, back in tomorrow at 7 am,,, not seen that part of the morning for a while..

Today's nice surprise,, I have a fire pit and after putting the mess cover on, a robin came down and was running around on top of it, I worked out there was a moth trapped inside and the robin was trying to get it. So I have invented a robin play den:) .. Just wish I had my camera with me at the time ..
    Night , hugs x CC

Sorry to butt in re: horse poo. I had an allotment a few years ago and the accepted wisdom was increasingly not to use horse poo. We had a farmer who would deliver loads of leaf mould and horse poo but many allotment societies were reporting adverse effects particularly with crops like potatoes. It is believed that the numerous anti-biotics and other drugs given to the horses work their way through the system making the end product harmful rather than beneficial. Chicken manure is good - I noticed a few weeks ago that Wilkins*ons are now selling pelleted chicken manure. About 20 years ago when I still got the Organic Gardening catalogue I ordered something called cowpact - a compact non-smelly cow poo. The delivery driver was most bemused - he usually delivered to farms. But the one sack did an excellent job on my tiny town centre back yard.

They also do comfrey plants - I think mine is Russian (strain you want is called Bocking 14, I think). My plants have been going for over 20 years and have moved house with me so very good value. Bees love it, the long tap root brings up nutrients from deep in the soil to feed any surrounding plants, the leaves can be used in water but also will speed up composting if you add a layer of leaves to the compost bin and there are the health uses - excellent compress for a sprained ankle or other swellings (once gave some leaves to a friend with a swollen face due to toothache.

Don't know if I am allowed to join you or not. I bought my first home at the age of 25 (it was a wreck, had been boarded up for 11 years) intending to live alone. I had a friend who was determined to become a boyfriend (clung to me like a drowning man to a lifebelt and glared at all my friends until they went away). Lived at his house briefly and decided to leave him but found out I was pregnant. Decided I wanted to keep the baby, got lumbered with him as well. My sewing room /study became a nursery. One baby became three. Finally ditched useless lump when youngest was 3yo (had found out about his gambling when 6 months pregnant).

Brought three boys up alone (never received any maintenance, even when he had high earnings) doing multiple jobs. Youngest has finally finished university and hopes to live with his gf (they don't have any money). Am currently desperate to downsize but plans are on hold as have damaged the muscles in my right leg - 14 weeks of rest and physiotherapy and am still not allowed up a ladder. So close to finishing the house, it's so frustrating. Have done some of the garden.

Love my sons but really love being on my own. DS3 went to gf's last week (she lives t'other side o't pennines) and it was wonderful. And possibly have to look for a house which suits me and my mother as have offered to have her come live with me if/ when anything happens to her partner (he's older than her, has dementia and other health problems). Not convinced this is a good idea but looking at houses in the paper is keeping her happy - she fell downstairs at his house 16 months ago and has problems walking and with her neck and hands.

So I understand if you don't think I am one of you but will tag along - I keep searching for things to keep me entertained as I am trying not to worry about lack of money - had run out before enforced lay off. I am going to the doctor's tomorrow as my hands are breaking out - I have eczema and dermatitis which is mostly under control (can only think it is the stress).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
