Welcome Mothernerd, You sound like a singlie to me:).

Thanks for the further info. on manure. I had definitely got it in my head that horse poo has to be "ripened" before use, so was quite clear on that. I had started to read reservations recently about poo as manure courtesy of all the antibiotics and was feeling unsure about that and didn't know whether it would apply to all manure-producing animals and was making a mental note to myself that (in view of those reservations) I would only accept manure from animals I "know personally" (ie can be sure they are cared for a "traditional" way).

It's such a shame if a resource cant be used at the moment because of Modern Ways. Guess we are in a historical blip at the moment in between the introduction of antibiotics and the fact that we are "down to our last antibiotic and then have to stop using them when that stops working" (well...that's what I've read for humans, so I suppose it applies to animals too?)

Hence my personal experiments with "food from plants".

Taking on a wreck of a house that had been boarded-up for 11 years qualifies for a Distinct Admiration Medal (as it was bad enough taking on a 1970s place in need of virtual gutting I found).:T

BTW my house has now been finished inside (as far as money allows at the moment). It would have been nice if I could think it would sell for a profit if I changed my mind about it, but, nope, I'd make a loss as expected (as in I couldn't charge what I paid for it + what I have spent on it). It's now at "ceiling value" for this size/this area. Well...much as expected then...

Of course you are welcome, Mothernerd. Very welcome! Hopefully, we'll be able to help support you through the life changes to come. What I don't know about stress symptoms isn't worth knowing...:rotfl: I think I've had them all. Be kind to yourself.

Well done, Cornishchick, on first day back at work, and in a new to you role. Hard work by the sound of things.

And very glad you had a lovely day out, Bookworm. It's not the same on your own as going out with some nice company, and I often think we singlies are in danger of missing out on lovely days as it can be hard to motivate ourselves. Very glad you did it. It will be easier when you next decide to potter out and about...any nice plans for today?

    LB xx

    Morning

LB - not quite such lovely plans for today I'm afraid. Today is chore and house job day. I picked today as Thursday is bin day here and the trucks and men make such a racket I nearly always get woken up anyway. So figured if I have to get up that I'd make use of the time!
Got a couple of contractors coming for some routine maintenance tasks and then I want to pop to the shops later on once everyone has left as need a couple of new work shirts. Although not the most exciting....I can still safely say it beats work hands down! :p

MITSTM - well done on getting the house finished inside :T

Cornish Chick - glad the first shift went well. Sounds like you will bring a lot of positives to the role

Mothernerd - everyone is welcome here - so make yourself at home. I echo what LB said about being kind to yourself.

I need more :coffee: back later

    BW :)
  • Strange weather over here - going from hot one minute to cold the next. And they're all going crazy here with the Belgian flags for the football.

As for the horse poop - you just need to get it from a bog standard riding school - as long as you're not taking manure from the Olympic Champion Whittaker wannabes it will most probably be drug free.

We single ladies certainly know how to have a conversation about poo don't we! ;)

  • Hello everyone.
Can I also join this thread please? I have been reading it for a while now and it really brings a smile to my face.
I’m also a singlie (for six years now) and live on my own. I have three grown up children and grandchildren. I love hearing all your stories and find they give me motivation.
This is the downfall of me being on my own. I’m out to work from 7.30am until about 6pm (Mon to Fri) and then I really can’t be bothered to do anything. So, just by reading your stories gives me a little oomph to get up and go!

    Welcome SG :)

Your days sound so very similar to my own. This thread and it's support helps me so glad to hear we can do the same for you too
  • Could I, pretty please, play in your playground?
LB - I remember following your original 'Christmas' thread for a while - until real life got in the way - and thinking how supportive all these lovely peeps were.
And now I find there are lots of you!!!

I have been single for the past 12 years (my 40th birthday present from my 'husband' was 'I'm leaving you!!). I have brought up the two most amazing children ( now 18 and 19) and last month took early medical retirement due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.

So far, I am enjoying pottering about my house and garden (joints permitting) and have always been a 'home-bird'. I am sensible enough to know when to stop and rest and that has been the best part about leaving work. Ask me again in the depths of winter though and you may get a different answer!

My parents keep dropping hints about 'finding another partner' but to be honest, I can perfectly well live without one. I have become too set in my ways and like my little world exactly how it is without having to consider anybody else. I think their generation can't understand that life as a 'singlie' is very different to the hardship they would have faced.

I'm looking forward to 'meeting' you all.
Cornish Chick - I 'know' of you from other, preparedness forums and am so sorry to hear your news. Hoping life treats you gently. x

I got exactly the same 40th birthday present lillibet, in fact I think it was the only present I ever got.
I wouldn't want another partner either.

  • On a more positive note DD has finished her GCSEs :j
Yay - well done to her & you for surviving it all
My DD is year 9, so has only really started her science GCSE, but crikey, is she stressing about all of it already . Amusing in a way as she is one of the most chilled kids about everything else (tidy her room - later, arrive anywhere on time - rarely) but the thought of GCSEs is sending her into a spin now. Hopefully she'll have calmed down by the time they actually start - can't see how she'll keep up that level of stress for 2 years.

MSTM - that is great news about the house :T I'm still wandering around mine, thinking it will be lovely when its finished, but doing not a lot about it :D

Hello SG (& Mothernerd & Lillibet) - I can't believe that any of my stories will motivate you in the slightest :rotfl:. Lovely that this thread is becoming so popular, & you're right, it is a source of much needed support to us singlies. Lillibet - sorry to hear about your RA.

No idea how to contribute to the horse poo conversation, so I'll bow out of that one & all things gardening. Everything in my garden has been chomped, except for the geraniums that I don't particularly like, so I'm feeling a little fed up. Even my beautiful climbing clematis has had all its petals destroyed  yet next door on both sides still have a lovely variety of flowers - baffled.

All 3 of us have had the lurgy - I went back to work after 2 days off (felt odd halfway through the day I took off to look after my son) & DD WILL go back tomorrow. My boss was kept busy all day, so no time for snide comments thankfully. And at least the weekend seems very close now :T

Dibuzz - I vacillate between thinking all men are rubbish (in the potential partner meaning, not every single, solitary man IYKWIM :D - this feeling is quite strong tonight as ex has annoyed me yet again) & thinking "Oh, wouldn't it be lovely to share this meal/walk/whatever with someone who actually wanted to be with me". On the whole though, I think I'm much better off on my own. Besides I'd never have time to date with work/kids/house etc. :rotfl:

I'm hoping to dash off this w/e, so may be MIA for a while - hope you all have a fantastic w/e.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    Lillibet - welcome :)

Dibuzz - nice to see you

JKS - sorry to hear you have been poorly. Hope you shake it off ready for your w/e trip!
I share your comments about vacillation re: partners. ;)

Well today has been a mixed bag. Chores and house jobs are done. One of the tasks was a routine service for my burglar alarm. Turned out to be £100 more than I was expecting  as I needed a new external box fitting. I guess at least I know it's sorted but I could have done without another bill for sure!

Now about to chill with a film. Have a good evening all :)
