I forgot that I wanted to share THIS with you all. All interesting but number 12 is particularly fitting
That's really good. I'm going to print it off and have it in my kitchen.
Only nipping in really quickly as at vile work.
Hello newbies.
Will have to back track and read recent posts but haven't got time right now.
I'm Really unsettled. An ex (who i'm still mates with) is selling his house, all contents, his car and van.....and buying a huge motor home to flee off for a year or two......
This is really making me think what the hell am I doing in a job a can't stand anymore...well not all the time but a lot of it.....i want to rugger off in a motor home for a year!!...really I do!. except I have a cat...who I adore and couldn't leave.
My head is all over the place about my life.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

Hmmm...but playing devils advocate here would be the "Get off that housing ladder and just how do you get back on it again?". That's the thing, in a society where housing tends to be very expensive and the thought of living in the rental sector again would certainly give me white hairs (if I didn't have them already). All those short-term contracts and the risk of being handed your notice if you say that something needs fixing, costs of moving and paying fees to agents, etc.. Then there's the thought of avoiding the sizeable proportion of the world that is at war at any given moment when it comes to travels...hang on a minute whilst I sit and try and count just how many countries are at war at the moment (if I have enough fingers and toes to count them on ). Errr...have I done enough "devils advocacy" for you yet Calico?;):rotfl:
But I do sympathise with how you feel, having "been there/done that/got the teeshirt (and worn it till it fell to pieces)" re job you hate. Gritting teeth firmly to make yourself stay in a job you've come to hate is a bummer indeed...0 -
Welcome to the newbies. So nice that more new friends are coming out to play.
Calicocat - I can understand the feeling. The thought of just going where you feel like, with no ties, sounds very appealing. But, you have a tie in your cat. You have the option to change your home (to possibly reduce your outgoings), or your job (once you have reduced your outgoings!), but, to me, it feels wrong to give your cat away. So, can you train her to live in a motorhome? I have heard of people who do. It might mean you can't travel so quickly as you may have to wait for her to come in from exploring, but it might be an option. Although, as MITSTM says, it might mean going back into the rental sector afterwards (or parking your home on a long term site).
I should also, perhaps, mention that most motorhomes are often very damp. Not always evident from a visual inspection, but it will be there. Unless you get a new one (expensive) then it is likely to have issues. My ex works on them so I have heard a number of stories over the years (including major work on very expensive new ones).
I must admit the thought of just upping sticks and going away is really tempting, though with four cats it wouldn't be an option for me. Every time I hear someone doing something like that, I get a yearning to escape from my current responsibilities/commitments.
Still, it is nearly the weekend and, here anyway, it is promising to be warm (although could do without the high pollen).

Oh I wouldn't sell up and do that...as yet anyhow if at all. I would rent my place out if I did it.
For him it isn't a problem, he has enough money coming in to live without really touching any capital if he didn't want to, so get himself a flat after probably..or as he says just rent when he's finished as he isn't bothered about owning anymore apparently.
I was thinking more on the lines of....(in fantasy land)....of leaving work somehow for 6 months and joining him for a bit of it. As friends that is.
It's never going to happen......unless I got made redundant and he was still off doing it.
Oh and congrats on the house being habitable now....you got there in the end.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Ah....!!!
I would Never give my cat away...!!!!!!
If I found a friend who needed somewhere to live and loved cats and I trusted them to look after her properly....then I would think about things long and hard.
Asbo would hate travelling and wouldn't dream of the stress it would cause her, despite the fact that he has a dog with him.
However, if I Was to be made redundant, and went off for say even just a couple of months, she would survive. She coped when I had to flee down to look after my dad, didn't like it, but she survived being pampered by someone else.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Calico,
Well perhaps if the job "goes south" anyway AND you could find suitable tenants then maybes....that 6 month worth, as you say...
That's two IFS...but if those piccies come up on the fruit machine of life then..
EDIT: but, if you do contemplate the renting, its very instructive to read the housebuying forum and the amount of advice given to tenants to "just stay put and be awkward and play for time" if they are tenants not wanting to leave (so there's always a possible two? months or so to bear in mind after a tenancy ends before the tenants accept it has ended and have moved on...so be aware that's a "game" that sometimes happens..). Not quite sure how long a tenant can string things out for if they decide to forget about length of tenancy agreement and try for longer...0 -

Note to stand-in pamperer...do NOT forget Asbo likes games with Da Bird at intervals.:rotfl:
EDIT: thanks for the congrats re house job done. You gotta do it for yourself haven't you? As the house is worth a fair bit more now, but not as much as "what I bought it for + what I have spent on it (never mind "wages for effort")".0 -
Lol.
Someone tried to do supervision with me last night.
I said I wasn't in the mood....but if they really wanted to we could but that there was no need to go to a private room as I only had one statement I wanted to make.
Make me redundant with a nice large package to walk with.......thats all I said......lol.
So he just walked off shaking his head.
Right, better be off for some kip for round two tonight.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
