What books are you all reading at the moment? I need some inspiration....

I've just finished Broken Dolls by James Carol - it was recommended by Stephen Fry - it's a crime fiction novel - and was quite good for a first work by an author.

MB......that is so funny that your xmas tree is still knocking about....it's not just me then. my xmas stuff made it to the loft, but the festival gear and tent is still in dining room....no point in putting it anywhere as i'm off next month with it all..........

I will put it in loft after this year......I will put it in loft after this year.

Well done DD for her art exam, I ended up picking a really stupid subject for my A level and ended up failing it...my own fault. Enjoy your alone time.

I SO wish I had done this last night as Byatt would have loved it....just given idiot cat some drugs...(cosmic cat-nip for those not in the know).....and she has gone ballistic, some cats just chill out and roll around for a while, mine goes totally bonkers.

Next time you are up this end Byatt you must remind me.....and LB do not attempt to stroke her whilst on drugs....lol.

Weather here pants, went off to b n m's for something to do and built a small greenhouse thing (not a proper one) one of those flimsy free standing things for a tenner...there was a brief moment when I wanted to kill it whilst building...but all was well once I got a hammer involved.

It's great being off work isn't it....i could spend my life doing that and mooching about.

    Enjoy your weekend folks.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

I'm home! :D Train was packed but my seat was reserved so all was well, but got a bit claustrophobic in the last 30 mins when people were everywhere, even using the toilets as seats

Had a fab, fab time at LB's, loved the lottie and the hens, even the delousing, honest :p, their feathers were lovely and their bums all fluffy! :rotfl: The sign of 'Hen Party in Progress' is so cute and has found a perfect hanging place...we expect the men will roll their eyes;), but it's lovely. Many a happy hour spent with them, all very chatty and they always recognised LB.

Northumberland is stunning and I saw many beautiful places. The Observatory was well worth the visit, very enthusiastic (mostly young) men who were very passionate about the subject and wanted us all to see the planets, went out of their way to make sure we did. LB did several "turns around"...to watch Saturn:T On one occasion, one of the guys was telling us about comets, when all of a sudden the room cleared...someone had popped their head round the door to say Saturn could be viewed...I legged it too, but I think the comet guy understood. :o

Fish and chips in the sunshine (even got out the sun screen!) will always be remembered, and the fantastic views from the castle.

Thanks also to Calico for hosting the BBQ, I ate way too much but it was all lush from LB's burgers and potato salad to the chicken kebabs ( is that the right word)... and dips.

Yes, I would love to have seen Asbo and the cat nip, My-Boy cat loves cat nip and is hyper also.

The rain has been so bad down here that the county show has had to cancel their final day, the first time in its history.

    Morning, Everyone! :j

Well done to DD for her art exhibition - sounds like a real talent to be nurtured there :T

I've been struggling since Byatt left as I enjoyed having her company, and now have to get used to being on my own again. I'm trying very hard to motivate myself but bloomin 'eck, it's tough going :(. I have dug up worms for the girls this morning, and am playing Da B!rd with Young-Boy-Cat, but I think I need to make myself get showered and go out for a couple of hours - Waitrose and a garden centre beckon. We're expecting more dowpour this afternoon and tomorrow, which also always affects my mood :(

The girls will eat most things. MTSTM, but I'd google to make sure you're not passing anything to them that is poisonous e/g rhubarb leaves. Hens are cheeky, and will shout at you until you give them what they want. They leave anything not worthy :rotfl:

I have really enjoyed giving my friends lovely eggs (and rhubarb, too), but would sell them to people I don't know (well). I don't think I'd give them away to strangers as that devalues the gifts to my friends if that makes sense? Probably just me... :rotfl: But I love eating "Mabel's" egg, or "Maisie's" etc. It's just fab. Am so glad I made the push to get this all set up.

Well, I'd better shake a leg and get on with the day before my mood lowers again.

Have a good'un, all, regardless of the weather.

    LB xx

    It's raining here...

I was going to go out but have changed my mind, it's horrendous.

My-Boy cat lovs me :D, a lovely friend looked after him, but he still really missed me and wouldn't let her cuddle him...he's been giving me kisses and cuddled up close during the night. He looks very well though, no nasty nervous rash so I am sure he appreciated the company even though it was at his level.

I do miss the day to dayness of company in the house and when LB left last year it felt like the house was more than just empty. It's the little stuff/noises (like my snores, :rotfl:) in the background that are comforting...

I'm really missing LB, the Boys and the Girls and the lottie! xxxxxxx

I don't mind picking up snails (just by their shells), or worms (used to rescue them when seeing them on pavements, afraid they would get stepped on), and have picked up slugs but the horrible slimeiness irritated my skin, so use gloves. I used to go around my garden in a previous life, after it rained, picking up all the slugs and taking them to the local countryside and releasing them, :o, my neighbours thought I was mad and I guess I was but found killing things hard to do, I'm less bothered now after finding them eating all my plants and as for the caterpillars (don't like holding them)...

I have "pet" worms in my compost bin, bought especially, so when LB suggested I bring them for The Girls I was like this ...:rotfl:

    Well, it's still raining...:(

3 cuppas later, and I still have't moved :rotfl:. Have caught up with emails to friends, though, so am feeling very righteous ;)

    Right, I will go for a shower...I will, I will..... if I don't move now, I know I just never will :(

How do you others get on with motivating yourselves when feeling a little low and lonely?? especially when the weather is cr$p?

With difficulty sometimes is the answer to that one imo:rotfl:

I do keep to-do lists up on the fridge and freezer underneath my fridge magnets.

That way I am faced with the guilty truth every time I open one of them. Guess it boils down to guilt-tripping myself:rotfl:

Have crossed a few more things off the list today:).

Personally, I find it very difficult to motivate myself with the house still in total chaos with the renovation work. I can about manage motivation when the house I am living in is "normal status", but when everything is dirty/in a mess/it takes a LOT longer to find anything that virtually all motivation takes a dive out of the window.

Having things in order and "a place for everything, everything in its place" is my main way of going about things...hence I've been so stumped for motivation ever since I moved into this house. So my first thoughts for you boil down to "Have you got everything in your house as organised as you want it to be?". Congratulations btw on sorting out all that paperwork recently.:T

Renovation work nearly finished now (as finished as my money allows for at the moment anyway). There is still a long and expensive list of what further work needs to be done that is just having to "go on the backburner" until I have the money (which basically boils down to when the Government stops whipping a load of my pension out of my grasp before I even get it at last...courtesy of when I reach that revised State Pension Age I have and they have to start handing over the rest of my income at last:cool:). So am anticipating a strong upswing in motivation shortly at last when the house is at "as done as money allows at the moment" stage and a further strong upswing in motivation when I start getting the rest of my income again.

Nearly forgot another motivating tool I use for myself.

I give myself "rewards for effort" when applicable.

So, I shall be giving myself some champagne to celebrate "House as done as money allows" stage.

Am also wondering whether I should hold a mini housewarming party for the friends I have made to date (telling myself it will help encourage them, as ones made so far are in the same position as me, which is "Gut a house and bring it up to scratch" and I will be the first one of us to have managed a sizeable amount of the work).

I think we all need our bit of encouragement, because every single person/couple I know that has moved here is doing/will be doing massive amounts of work on our respective houses, so I'm hoping to encourage the others on with a bit of "motivation" here.

I find it much harder to get motivated when it's dull and raining.
I've been seeing a pwp who has helped me a lot, one thing that's definitely worked is to plan the week ahead with things that need doing but also add in some me time.
I'm not sure how well it will work when I don't have to report back to him after next week but I'm going to carry on with it and see how it goes.
