OS Singlies - We Do It Our Way!

Mum2one I work in a year 6 class and they are going to be so glad when it's over (especially because we're having a trip to Alton Towers next week :j). Combined with DD's GCSE's (15 exams over three weeks) I think I'm going to be staying in bed or taking to alcohol at every opportunity:rotfl:0

Evening All :j
we're a quiet bunch this week. I hope that means we're all out out and about having fun in the sun...? Let's hope so!
I'm feeling blissful tonight. I start 11 days off work tomorrow...11 whole days...imagine that!
I have loads to do tomorrow as a friend is coming to stay, but I am so looking forward to it all. Lots of plans for wee days out, the odd surprise, oh and de-lousing the chickens. Now who wouldn't be enjoying that? :rotfl:
The chickens were so much better by Monday morning, thank goodness. There's still the odd skirmish, but overall, they are happy chooks, and laying me the most gorgeous eggs :T. My only real problem now is that they can't seem to decide where to sleep in the hen house, so there are ructions by the time the 4th chook tries to get in. Mostly, that isn't a problem, but it will be when I have an evening out, and the 4th chook gets locked out. Picture me, in the blackness of an unlit lottie, sliding in mud, trying to check that all chooks are tucked up ok :rotfl:. Ah yes, the joys of being a single mother hen, eh?
Hope you are all doing ok.

Hiya LB :hello:
Sadly not for me as I've been busy at work. I'm hoping that the nice weather will last into the weekend as then I might actually get to see some of it!
Some time off sounds lovely. I have a few more weeks until I have that pleasure but at least there is a long weekend coming up to help with the waitYou deffo deserve the break though and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time
Your tales of being a 'chicken mum' are making me smile. So glad that you are enjoying them and yay for yummy eggs!
Right I need to get my butt into gear and off to the dreaded work.
Have a good day all

Glad to hear the chickens are settling down and sorting out their places in the family. Have a wonderful break from the dreaded work. I hesitate to ask but ... what is involved in delousing chickens? Do you sit there and groom through them with your fingers, pick them off and eat them (like monkeys)?!
Was an expensive day for me yesterday. Dentist for me and I had to take my two new boys to the vet. They have had runny bottoms on and off since they arrived. Just as I think it has settled down, one starts up again - mowing the lawn Wednesday night showed the problem was very much back again. So, back to the vet for a thorough check over and chat about what else to try.
Any suggestions of how to have four cats in the house with two on a very reduced special diet? My older two are used to eating throughout the day (little and often from the running buffet). The special reduced diet is for two weeks initially with the hope that their tummies will settle and then I can re-introduce other foods. I didn't realise that cats are most likely to have a sensitivity to chicken or fish based foods - which is odd since most foods seem to be fish or chicken flavour.
It is going to be an interesting and long (given how little they are allowed to eat) two weeks ...
Lovely weather at the moment. Long may it last as it takes the pressure off replacing the broken glass in the greenhouse (broken by the lid of the water butt flying off like a frisby last weekend)!

Hi Calico, could you delete the quote with the pic please, as I don't want it to stay on the thread...:)
Heck...sorry, only just dipped in again as been so busy with one thing and another....have done it now......I think it's worked now as tried deleting whole post and it didn't work.
Yep it's worked.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

You need a head torch kiddo for the evening chicken rescue....lol...that will be an even better look!!
I have still been doing lots..(well lots for me)..on the house front. New cooker hood has arrived but as yet not fixed up, kiss kiss sparky has been busy and not had time to do it, he may arrive tonight after he's finished if he can and not done in. I'm assuming they have delivered the right one as i've just dumped box in dining room and left it there.....soon find out I guess. the delivery people have to photograph it in your house as proof of delivery!!!!.......how funny is that. for a start it could be in anyone's house and not mine........i did ask if I have to drape myself over said box for proof it actually got to me and not the delivery guys house......lol.
Bit of a nerve really, supposing you don't want your house photographed.....all very odd.
Kiss kiss sparky has sent a text the other day saying I couldn't give a monkeys if he's dead or alive as long as I get my hood put up.....i think the job he is doing at the moment is causing him trouble.....he was joking though.....i think....bless.
I have been having a fight with a lot of ivy the last few hours......not entirely sure who is winning...I suspect the ivy will always win. It's like day of the flipping trifids ...looks nice, but will rot my fence....and not even my ivy it belongs to nextdoor.
And have also spent time sitting......and pottering....and pondering things. god I have enjoyed my time off work, and totally not looking forward to going back. I have seeded and potted up loads more herbs, the peppers I got from LB are doing good (I think)....but yet again the spinach has died.......i don't know what I do to it!!.....and it's meant to be really easy to grow....yet Basil isn't, and I can grow that??.
I am getting overrun with mint a bit, so have just made a drink with loads of it.(cold one with ice, not tea)....lovely when the weather is sunny.
What do people do with snails in their garden......probably not the kosher thing to do, but I have been launching them over my fence into the road with a shovel...there were loads in the ivy....slimy little suckers. I don't really want to put any poisons down, as idiot cat would probably eat it, caught her trying to eat some tulips this morning.
Hope everyone is well.
RPP....you have just reminded me i'm due to go to dentist....Yukk.....Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
:j for it now being officially the weekend
Happy Friday night everyone!

There was a time when I used to just snails on a "flight abroad". Well it was satisfying to send them flying at the house wall of one of my previous neighbours....
These days I "knock them off their perch" with whatever implement comes to hand first (bit too squeamish for picking them up) and onto the ground and then just squash them with my foot.
Slugs, on the other hand, get the salt treatment. The funny thing is I see very few snails hereabouts and can count on one hand the number of slugs I have spotted since moving in here, but something is eating holes in the leaves of my veggies:mad:
Got myself some net bags of the "for washing delicate items in washing machines" variety and planning on repurposing a bin with a lid to put a bag full of nettles (or, preferably, comfrey) in and add water to soak for a week to give me some "plant food". I'm still wondering where on earth all the comfrey round here is hiding itself, as the only bit I've spotted so far is in a friends garden and there is no way I'm going to ask to pick that (considering she is having a problem with the fact that said garden contains the dreaded Japanese Knotweed).
Shall be working on the basis that plants are like people and the stronger and better-fed they are, then the better they are likely to be at fighting off invaders...0 -

We are SO on the same page when it comes to slugs and salt, and am pleased to know that someone else feels the same about snails....i can't pick them up and put them nicely somewhere.....it's a shovel job as I said.
The whole little kid thing where they liked messing with worms....?????....not me at all no matter what age, and it hasn't got any better. One...i don't like them.....Two....i don't like the idea that they just keep living no matter what....Three...as a child, the feel of a worm in your hand never appealed....ever.
Give me bees and Ladybirds any day of the week.
Sparky turned up.....looked totally pizsed off and is having a hard time bless him ...it is entirely possible i'm getting a major crush on said sparky, I do think he's a really nice person.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D.......
