Sparky turned up.....looked totally pizsed off and is having a hard time bless him ...it is entirely possible i'm getting a major crush on said sparky, I do think he's a really nice person.

Ay...yay...yay..;):);). Is he getting the best home-made cake treatment yet we ask ourselves?:) and the "real" coffee? (is partial to Swedish apple cake and "real" Danish pastries and suggests them, if you can find a recipe somewhere to make that apple cake on the one hand and anywhere where "real" Danish pastries are available). Have found some frozen Danish pastries in England before now that bore some vague resemblance to "real" Danish pastries.

Hmm..."real" Danish pastries (note to anyone who ever goes to Denmark on holiday...they are nowt remotely like the things called Danish pastries found in British bakeries) with some real coffee. Simple things...

Think we should be watching with interest here...

Does this tell you where I am on the potential romance story, that I really just want to know he fitted the cooker hood ok?

    :rotfl:

Romance and seduction is all too much of an effort :o

On the snail/slug thing - a study has shown you have to rehome them 65 ft away or they find their way back . I throw them into the main road outside of mine and hey, if they don't get squished trying to get back, I reckon they deserve a leaf or two :rotfl: . Aren't we all horrible?

Well, my house is the tidiest and cleanest it has been for months , as I am having a wee, very belated wake this afternoon for my Mam with some good friends who have supported me through this awfully tough time (and still are, bless them). All Mam and Dad's favourite birthday tea food, which makes for an interesting and not at all stylish concoction. I've felt quite emotional shopping for these foods, and it's the first time I haven't felt numb in months, to be honest :(.

    Enjoy your Saturdays, Folks.

Lol......cooker hood is up and working...

Christ i'm going to have to think of another job I need doing to see him again.....lol.

No Danish pastry or cake making, i'm not amazing at baking.....BUT....he did say I had to prove I cared if he was alive or dead the other day, so I said if he had to come after work I would feed him so he didn't starve. So, he got chicken casserole etc, which the poor bloke ate with gusto, he said he liked it, and that he hadn't been eating for days as so busy and tired when he got in.

He is doing up a house of his own.....which he says has a massive Bay tree he wants to chop down.....!!! Chop it down..!?!?....so I said he can't do that without me seeing if it will move and I can have it. I would love a bay tree for all my cooking. He says it blocks the light coming into his house....so i've no idea how big the thing is. Even if I can't move it, I want all the leaves off it before he ditches it.......i may have to do a tree 'sit-in'.....lol.

I could drive round the area looking for a big bay tree and then look like a right stalker by sitting in it until he gets home....lol. No, stalking isn't my thing....takes too much effort.

Re: snails.....mmm. I get quite a lot of them here, I may collect them all up every now and again and drive them somewhere far away, as they didn't land 65ft away.....they could have been squished by cars though with a bit of luck.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Hmmmm, Calico, so he's turned up at the right time for dinner and been fed it.;) The plot deepens......

Now there are other little jobs electricians do. For instance, do you need a 2nd telephone point in your house? Electricians can put them in you know...doesn't have to be OpenReach (and they're cheaper than OpenReach too).

Do you want an outside security light for instance?

I'm just quoting off two things I've recently had an electrician do besides electrical work in the house. You've already got your doorbell sorted, so that's off the list....

Sounds like you need an excuse to invite him for dinner a 2nd time and if he's there eating his way through another dinner you could be in there. Can I suggest curry and, of course, curry is ideally accompanied by a couple of cans of chilled lager...

Do we have the start of a plan here?

Speaking of lager, wonders if I fancy a couple of nice chilled cans of myself. Wonders if nearest thing to a corner shop round here has any?
Well, it's been hot work meeting up with a friend/doing some shopping/checking out places for possible future walks (note to self = have discovered two promising future walks:)). All I could hear was birdsong and there weren't many other people around....that's how its supposed to be...ah (it's a pet hate/disappointment of mine to go for a countryside walk and hear lots of noise and see lots of other people). Countryside walks are about peace/quiet/scenery and only just enough people that you'd be found within a couple of hours if you twisted your ankle imo.

LB - I've read that research too re distances snails will go and I've also seen they must be pretty intrepid explorers (judging by the fact I knocked one off a house wall that had darn nearly managed to reach the roof the other day). Hence no more "flying trips" and its a swift crush underfoot instead.

Lol.....the telephone point may be an option as could do with one upstairs to be fair.

He doesn't drink, don't know if he eats curry...and if I get him to do another job and offer him tea again he might think i'm really weird.....(and no....-i'm not..lol)

He did say he would bring some of the Bay leaves round......and what do I go and say????.....just shove then through the door if i'm not in or asleep......idiot that I am...instead of saying... great just text to see when i'm in....duh....what was I thinking???....i'm out of practice with this whole thing I think.

Ewww....i don't think I could crush the snails...I can remember how vile it feels and sounds when I went chasing after my dog one time out of the house with no shoes on and ran over a load of them in bare feet...made me feel quite sick.

I asked LB if hens like snails...but not a good idea apparently.

The 'girls' are lovely!!.....and so was the afternoon tea....and the play was better than we expected.

Coco could do with learning some table manners though, you don't have to peck through my hand to get the meal-worms.

Lovely to see Byatt again, and am sure they will have a great week exploring and eating.......eggs are featuring heavily on the menu.....lol....i can't wait to try mine, may have eggs and soldiers for brekkie tomorrow.

Not that I want to think about tomorrow.....back to vile work.

Edit....how often do you get a house re-wired?.....someone told me 20 years....so mine would be due soon assuming it hasn't been done since built......he would be here a whole two days!?......lol. I want more sockets....but can't bare the thought of ripping up floor boards up so that's a no-no.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Duh Calico...you weren't on the ball there re the bayleaves?:rotfl: Before I got to reading that sentence about him dropping them off I was thinking "She could ask him whether its okay to drop in when she's in the vicinity and pick her own"

Though there may yet be time to retrieve that idea and have a change of plans and do a drop-in?

Hmmm...bit out of practice myself, as its been some years now since I was dating..

Guessing I've not totally lost it possibly, judging by how one younger male neighbour keeps saying "You might meet a nice Welsh man yet...". Hmmm...me I shall just stick to building up a network of friends and contacts...

Thankfully, on that front, the Awkward Neighbour has piped down and barely been seen for last few days and am keeping fingers crossed that all they needed was someone standing up to them firmly. From what I can make out, AN has previously been used to being able to out-think and out-manoeuvre everyone around and bulldoze them into letting AN have their way. It will be character-forming for them to find this is no longer the case:rotfl:. Am getting the feeling that other neighbours won't be sorry if AN gets defeated for once....

Have now got to stage of having got enough of a start on the friends and network front that the germ of an idea has landed in my mind and am contemplating whether its a goer that might get me a little bit of extra money and have a beneficial effect on the community. Knowing the way my life has always worked = the community gets the idea, but I don't get to make any money from it. That would be blimmin' typical of my life to date....
  • Morning all - must confess to not really catching up as there has just been no time at all...
...As singlies it can be very easy to get caught up in constantly "doing" when sometimes we should take a step back and enjoy.

Oh yes, I hear you but I still haven't figured out how to take the step back when I'm not even getting the essentials done, never mind cutting back on chores & having some me time.

The last 2 weekends have just been full of chores or sorting kids - I've just looked back over my calendar & seen I have had 1 night in the last 2 months where I have actually seen a friend to go out with. One of my changes for 2014 (a bit like resolutions but not quite so set in stone so it doesn't matter if the changes don't happen :rotfl:) was to try & see friends more, but it just doesn't seem to happen.

My DD (14) has been driving me bonkers with needing so much attention all of the time. That sounds horrible of me, doesn't it? What I mean is she seems unable to do anything unless she is told how, when, where & why to do it at least 5 times. And then it will take her 10 times longer to do it & on her own timescale ...I still have to check that she's cleaned her teeth every day (& she usually hasn't ). I didn't have time to go to the shop to get ham for sarnies for school today, so I asked her to go to a particular shop & told her what to get - she went to a different shop & bought 4 packs of ham with a BB date of today & spent twice as much as she needed to . When I pointed out that the ham would go off before I used it all, she just didn't see the problem, I could just chuck it & buy more. As usual it would have been better if I'd just done it myself (but I was doing other chores).

She gets fed up with my nagging her but consistently proves she can't do things off her own back (not just at home, detention is such a regular thing at school as she often doesn't have the right book/kit/forgets to hand in homework that's in her bag.....). We have tried so many things I'm all out of ideas so anyone, please help.....

Just nipped back in for a moment.... can't remember who asked but you may recall that I had some Vanilla curd to try a while back ...and I said that I would let you know how it was.....well the verdict is.... good but a little odd :rotfl:
It looks like lemon curd but tastes of vanilla so whilst nice is a little strange on the taste buds.
Sorry for not advising before - memory sucks :o

Me - & it sounds interesting....

Must go - will be late for work. Bye all & have a great day (if you can on a Monday).
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

The verdict from the dentist.... I have a raving infection, and had to have the tooth out... it hurt even with 3 injections and my daughter sat there absolutly laughing..... she got away with check up, quick scrape of her teeth and praised for improving her teeth cleaning.. but can she treat the front with the same care xxxx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Mum2one - ouch. Still, now it's out presumably you will soon feel better. The dentist is one place I hate to go and I hadn't been for four years prior to my recent visit. I have to go to a different dental practice for x-rays tomorrow. Is there anyone else who struggles not to throw up when they put those plates in your mouth?

Well, am shattered today. Billy did not feel the vet prescribed food was adequate and complained on and off for several hours last night. They hardly looked at it when I put their breakfast down this morning so things won't get better for a day or so yet. Guess I need to go and find some earplugs for tonight!

Hope the chickens have fully settled in together LB. Have you been de-lousing yet?!

Aye, delousing completed on Sunday...I'd like to say it was a doddle, but the chooks mostly ran rings round me. Only Maisie was easy to catch (she was first), and after that, the others were so wary, I couldn't get close :rotfl:. Still, we managed...after a fashion :rotfl:

Had a lovely time off so far - loads of lottie work completed, a swing roost seat for the girls (needed help from a nice lottie neighbour for this - he has all the power tools a girl could wish for ;)) and a log pile for them to forage in. They have loved the grass cuttings that Calicocat brought over on Saturday :T

We've had a trip to Howick Hall gardens, Cragside NT and a fab visit to Keilder Observatory last night (were lucky enough to see Mars, Jupiter and Saturn - Saturn was so special :) - when the skies cleared for an hour or so).

Marmalade cocktails went down only too well the other night, and it's the Snowballs tonight :p

I luvs being on holiday, and it's so lovely to have company for a change. I don't mind doing things on my own, but it's a real pleasure to share it with a like minded person.

I'm afraid I don't have any advice on trying to get pusscats to eat what they don't want to. My Old-Boy-Cat has to have a special diet, but spends his life trying to work out how to get Young-Boy-Cat's food. It is his life's mission :o. Sometimes he succeeds and I know because he is then poorly....usually sick on something I'd rather he wasn't!

Hope the week is going well for you all.

    LB xx
