Hello people..!!
I have been MIA as work has been horrific but i'm not even going to get into that...well I can't anyhow.
I Also can't possibly read back all the pages i've missed on a mobile as doing that would have me wanting to put my head in a freezer again...lol.
All I can say is I hope everyone is well, that the house is coming along MTSTM, that DD is good Byatt (have I dreamt it or is she getting a rabbit?), there was something funny with Bookworm or Swimming when I dipped in for a read (I think) but can't remember now as a while ago.....sorry folks.
I have been on hols most of last week and have made myself plough my time into the house, and have done lots....it's great and I love having it a bit more sorted. Still lots to go, but decided to do it on a budget as unsure of job stability and keep dosh.....but I have to say it's all looking good so far. It's done me good to do it too...instead of wallowing in work carp.
I have done mainly skim reading I will admit.....and I know nothing really about chickens....but I wouldn't isolate Coco unless absolutely necessary......certainly with other animals this could make the problem worse..(?)...it's a fine ballance though isn't it. If it was me I would be focusing on making her feel more comfortable and less stressed, but I guess that could be difficult with only 2 days off a week.
You are going to have to pitch a tent in there to sleep......
An ex of mine and I had totally differing opinions on animal care. Yes they do have to sort their own stuff out, but equally in my opinion You are a temporary boss, and they may need a little helping hand from you to all feel settled ....just my opinion.
And just for the record I would go with my theory every time...ex's dogs were always fighting....my animals have always got along with eachother....and types that shouldn't...terriers with guinea-pigs and hamsters and cats. The cat and dog would sleep with the guinea-pigs and I never worried that any were in danger....in fact my dogs would guard the little furries.
The thing is....they aren't in a natural habitat.....naturally they wouldn't be so much in each others space etc....so we humans (I think) can intervene, and explain the new living arrangements...if that makes sense..
Hope things down on the chicken-run are a bit more settled now.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Here are the fluffy bundles on the day we brought them home! Too adorable for words
Lovely to see you posting Calicocat, sorry about work but well done on the work to the house, there's always something so satisfying when you've done it yourself. My ex was inconsistent with animal (and children), so none of them knew whether they were coming or going, overly strict or the opposite. I'm not saying I'm perfect (well I am really, lol), as I'm soft as anything with animals. Now people? Well...0 -
..
And thanks for the welcome back, feeling a bit more like life going back to normal now.
I was in a certain pet shop yesterday....i had to say to myself...
"Walk away from the pigs"...(guinea-pigs)
"Walk away from the pigs"
"Walk away from the pigs"
Edit....i'd put money Byatt on us both being better with animals than our ex's. Put it this way, I have met you once and would let you look after mine....i have known this ex for around 20 years and would still feel the need to write down a care plan and then phone every day and still worry.....lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Cute bunnies:D
Good to see you back Calico.
Fingers crossed for you LB that the chickens can resolve their differences peacefully and harmony will reign. Perhaps we should send in Calico as the equivalent of the United Nations?:)
Very difficult to know just how to act for the best in those circumstances. I just feel so sorry for the hen victims. I know someone who has recently taken in a rescue dog and apparently that dog is incredibly well-trained already, but has been "trained" by means of knowing she will be on the receiving end of some rather violent treatment if she doesn't toe the line. Felt rather sorry for the dog, but sounds like it took her about 2 days to realise she is now living in the lap of luxury and is going to get spoilt rotten from here on in and cuddles are the order of the day:). Sometimes there's happy endings...0 -

Lol......me as chicken United nations may not work....apparently they will kill each other..(same as hamsters)....and unless with them all the time it's difficult to patrol isn't it.
One of my ex's German Shepherd dogs was a serious mess. I wasn't used to badly treated dogs at the time in reality, and thought nothing of running around the room with a rolled up newspaper and pan lid (what I did with mine just for fun?)....this one freaked out like I had never seen. She was a really damaged sole though on lots of levels. She thought a brush was a weapon to hurt her.....a GSD!!.....they need to be brushed!!
Took me 6 months plus, and masses of work Every day, but in the end, every time I picked anything up she figured she was in for a brush/massage/play...once i'd cracked her, I figured anything after that would be a walk in the park in comparison, and to this day i have still never seen such a damaged animal apart from another dog I knew at training who had been shot around 43 times by kids.....he was never going to trust properly again....bless, and who would blame him.
Anyhow, so....i think I may have things to learn about chickens and my view isn't workable.....for now.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Poor little wotnames Calico. Why do people think its "fun" to mistreat an animal? Who knows? One of life's mysteries...
I shall return to my own mystery of the day (or summat like that). Have been trying to sort something out and t'other person is playing "Me no understandee what you are saying....". Yeh...right...'course they don't (much!). There are advantages to not coming over as very bright and that person is playing it right now...but I'm sure they do understand very well where I'm coming from.
Only jealous...as I cant play that tactic myself....not without getting laughed out of the place so to say. I have to put in a lot more "work" with anything like it....as in "I can look up whatever the relevant rules/laws/etc are and I'll have a pretty good understanding of them" instead....but that's a lot more work and time-consuming than the "Me No Understandee" technique some people can credibly come out with . Tells self to be grateful I'm me and not Mr Apparent NoUnderstandee and count blessings.
Oh well....such is life....hey-ho...:cool:0 -

I'm a bit lost?...probably me..my head is only just coming back down to earth, but what is it you are trying to sort out today?.. I may have missed it in previous posts so apologise if that's the case.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Calico,
Just a situation to do with new home set-up that I haven't really gone into (well...I've made a comment or two about awkward neighbour problem but cant give full gist as AN would recognise themselves). Hence why I'm sympathising with "rule the roost" stuff going on with chickens...because AN has been in "rule the roost" situation until I turned up and am not willing to be "walked over" as I suspect the previous owners of my house were...
Mr NoUnderstandee is someone who will know the "background set-up" to this but is pretending not to understand...
Never mind....sorry if things were a bit confused here...maybe I shouldn't think aloud...0 -
