Metherer, a belated Happy Birthday, and thank you for the cake. Good news about OH's housing, I hope something is offered that's suitable soon. Well done on the exam pass. :T

GQ, we used to have a rabbit, when I was a child who would chase us all, it got to the stage where food was thrown just to distract him! (or her)...she/he was also given cups of tea, oddly.

Bunnies have been good, I let 3 of them go in their outside runs for a couple of hours, very funny observing them, I had no idea they groomed each other.

Weather here is lovely, still chilly, but so much brighter, I've even turned off the storage heaters...it must be Spring! :T

Mum2one, I think my hire car contract is for 30 days but will confirm tomorrow. Thanks for the tip about emptying the car...I may never see it again. :( I've had 2 accidents previously, back in 2006 (I think), but was under extreme stress, first one was racing to hospital as my DD had had a seizure and was blue lighted there...traffic stopped and I couldn't in time...or I forgot, I had replacement car, brand new, and it was snowy...I drove it into a wall...third time, someone drove into the back of me. Both times my car could have been written off as it was so old, but because of the low mileage they agreed to repair.

Hope your celing issue is ok...

I'm ok, a bit sore down left side, but otherwise fine. Still can't believe it happened. :(

But trying to be philosophical about it, I can't do anything else, will decide what to do when I hear from insurer.

Oh, GQ, the van was a company van, so I'm guessing no cost to him.

It is tough standing all day, but well done on the collection!

JKS, thanks and yes, they are a lovely bunny couple. Yesterday, the female was getting cross with me for stroking him...she warned me off! :rotfl:

Kacie, well done! I have done the Yougov surveys and got a £100 last year. This year I can't face a survey...I'm just surveyed out!

Just a thought Byatt - as well as emptying the car - remember to take your tax disc too as you can get it refunded. ;)
  • Loving the bunny tales. We had one when I was a child. It had a guinea pig for company and the piggie used to lie on the rabbit's neck. Sadly, they didn't have that big a cage - although it was bigger than you see outside many pet shops these days.

Byatt So sorry to hear of the man with van deciding to target you. I hope the insurance company are reasonable and get it sorted pretty swiftly. At least you (and your daughter etc) weren't seriously injured.

GQ well done on your collecting. I'm not surprised your back was hurting afterwards. I think it is much more tiring to stand around and do very little rather than walking. Of course, sitting around doing very little is not so bad and I have done a chunk of that today!

Went to get (mainly) cat food today and came away somewhat bemused thinking (for a change) "that didn't cost as much as I thought". As a singlie, you don't really get time to really check the scanned prices while you frantically load your carrier bags so I didn't check the receipt until I was back in the car. I bought 12 x 6 packs of tinned catfood (the ones with the black and white cat on it) and it should have been 3 packs for £10. Sadly, for the shop, 7 packs of them scanned as if a single tin so 6 cans for 59p! This is not something that usually happens to me so, with more hungry mouths to feed, this is great!!

Can I scream now or later..... more of the ceiling has caved in - came down to a little mess the last few mornings.....

the plumber - bless his heart - rang Fri ngt to say they have to order a special part - hoping next week........ at this rate be working round the neighbourhood for a shower!!

Byatt- Sorry your in aches and pains, unfortunaly its usually the muscles contracting as if to say I shouldn't be in that position ( that sentence reminds me of a pack of playing cards from a s shop many yrs ago was given, the pictures brought tears to me eyes.... gym was never my best subject), joking apart may be worth getting it checked out.

How are the other passengers xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Byatt, I'm so very sorry to hear of your accident, and hope you don't suffer any longer-term effects. Just a thought - if the insurance company want to write off your car, and you think it's worth repairing, you should be able to buy it from them (I know someone who did this because they loved their old car and wanted to keep it).

Mum2one, my sympathy re: your ceiling, especially as it's continuing to give way a bit at a time, leaving you with a daily mess to be cleared up. The only possible silver lining is that this is happening before workmen have repaired it - you now know that a large area needs to be replaced because it's unstable, so if they try to get away with repairing just a small-ish patch, you can be firm with them.

Just back from a long weekend away with friends - weather-wise we couldn't have been luckier in choosing this weekend, but it did feel a bit odd to be wearing a sunhat and sunglasses in March!

Byatt, hope you're all ok and that things get sorted quickly for you.I had my car written off some years ago, silly woman that chose to ignore the "no right turn" "ahead only" signs and the red light  I had DD and DS in the back of the car (then aged 5 and 2).

It did become quite bizarre. There were some British Gas workmen on the opposite side of the roundabout who came running across carrying cones, got us all out of the car, phoned the emergency services (we got them all, police, fire engine and ambulance attending) and took us over to the petrol station on the other side. Unfortunately the petrol station was in darkness as aforementioned workmen had cut through an electricity cable. DD then lent on a shelf in petrol station which collapsed and everything on it rolled across the floor, toddler DS then decided to help himself to chocolate...

Ambulancemen asked which was the best hospital to take us to (two within reasonably close proximity) I stated my preference only to be told we couldn't go there because there had been a fire on the floor above and so A&E was closed. By this time I was expecting Jeremy Beadle or similar to appear and say that "you've been framed" :D. Sadly that wasn't the case and it had really happened. Still, we were all ok, a bit of whiplash, bruising from the seatbelts etc but no serious damage.

It's just all another thing though that you could do without.

Hi, I seem to have spent most of the day sorting out car stuff. I have the hire car, brand new and scary, my car is being picked up later, after I luckily phoned insurance to check how long I had hire car, as the garage they first said would be coming, is no longer on their books! So she rebooked with someone else. Sigh. Also had insurance call me about claiming for injury, but I'm not signing anything yet...I feel very confused about it all. I also realise how much in shock I was on Saturday...

anyway, I've emptied car, taken car tax disc out...(thanks BW :)), and taken pics of damage.

Thanks Winterphoenix, that's another option, I wouldn't have known about. I have no fondness for the car and it does have lots of problems, central locking iffy, sun roof leaks (it's like a paddling pool)...but I dread the thought of hunting down another car, I won't get finance because my credit was shot to pieces after divorce. Then, it's wondering how much they will give me if it is written off. Sigh.

I wouldn't be worried if it was just for social use, but I'm fully booked up for pet sitting, although one client I've just sent an email to, explaining the situation as they are 17 miles away, and I really don't know if I will have a car. First time I've had to do that.

Anyway, I'm feeling fraught whilst trying to be ok about it all.

    Mummybobble, that sounds a nightmare!

mum2one, the other passengers appear ok, they've not complained. I don't want to say too much to them in case they start imagining they are worse than they really are. Thanks for your PM, will reply soon. :)

RPP, well done on the cat food glitch...did you go back for more? ;) When do you get your cats?

    Afternoon folks...

I hope people's cars/insurance/ceilings get sorted ok...it's a nightmare, and I think this is when we have the negative side to being singlie often as no-one else handy to have a moan at or discuss things with...this is where we rely on friends.

Just been to docs to have BP checked again. I had to come off miracle tablets that get rid of hot flushes as I was heading for a stroke with them as BP went so high. Anyhow, swapped it for another miracle tablet that doesn't send it sky high, but it still hasn't come down to what it should be. I now have to have it checked every week for a while, get 3 blood tests done, and buy a BP machine to use at home. I think it is possible that the NHS has gone stark raving mad...I had to book a double appointment to have BP and bloods done the same day...I pointed out it takes 30 seconds to do BP...and promised I wouldn't speak at all so it would be done in a single appointment...but rules are rules, and I have to have 10mins booked for what takes 30 seconds. I must admit I do find the way this area works very odd compared to what i'm used to GP wise ...still...it is what it is.

Anyhow, enough of that boring stuff....and onto more pleasurable experiences....

I don't know if people can remember, but about 2 weeks ago I went to a local pet shop, and outside was a gang of cats hanging out that could have been out of west side story.....and may in fact have thumbs....

Anyway....last week due to black eye and all that malarki didn't go down, but went down today.....and there they are...all sunning themselves on the roofs of the hutches that were baking in the sunshine......they were fab. One followed me into the shop...which naturally I encouraged as it was cool to have a new mate along. He hopped up onto the till area when I went to pay and lay on top of the till purring and getting cuddles and strokes from me.

Shop assistant came up and was going to ask cat to move until she realised I liked him and was cool with it....turns out they are a bunch of feral cats that do indeed just hang out at the pet shop...(clicking their thumbs), and I got the impression that they sleep at the back of the shop (outside) but didn't want to ask too many questions as other people about. They were clearly a happy bunch, and the one who came into shop with me has the assistant running scared, as apparently you can stroke him and he'll suddenly go in for the attack. I did witness this look in his eye...and it is one I recognise well from home. Mine is classed as feral......maybe they are all crackers. But I was watching the girl stroking him standing thinking to myself 'you need to stop now, you aren't reading the signs here, he's going to launch at your arm any minute now'....she did see this before disaster and ambulances needed.

So.....i shall be using that pet shop a lot....well to be fair just for litter as food choice rubbish....but I find this gang of cats amazing....the bootifull queen one wasn't there today though, so will hope she is there next time I go. if I get to speak to the same girl on her own another time will ask about who feeds them etc as I would chip in and get them food too.

Apologies if I have missed anything important and not mentioned it but it quite difficult to keep track of a thread and everyone on a mobile.

Oh, also another really nice thing is I heard the seagulls yesterday and today...first time for a while, and reminded me why I moved here, as for a while due to feeling like I was suddenly living in a wind tunnel I had forgotten about that nice bit of life here.

Friends did say I would get a shock at the cold winds on the northumbrian coast.....they were not wrong as it howls...but when the sun shines and the gulls are shouting I feel happy to be here again.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
