I love cooking from scratch, when I cheat and bung something frozen in the oven or microwave, or even when we have a takeaway, we don't enjoy it any more. If we are on holiday I miss my own cooking! The downside is, sometimes I would like someone to cook a meal from scratch for me, (as OH can't/won't cook :( ) The upside is, we eat really nice meals and save a fortune to boot. (and I get to feel smug!)

Sweet Pea - I am 100% with you on this.. We love home cooking and thanks to my fab parents I am not a bad home cook. Hubby and I would rather have 'date night' at home and treat ourselves with a nice piece of meat rather then pay restaurant prices for something I can at times do better! If we on a very rare occasion 'fancy' a takeaway which we have once in a blue moon we are ALWAYS disappointed.
I too just wish a 'homecook fairy' would come in and cook for me too :j

Thank you for your wonderful threads on this forum. My life has changed and for a couple of months I will have more time to learn to be old style, and when I return to work hope I will be able to carry it on. I have been reading through your posts, and some are awsome. So, I will be posting here more often now, and hope to join in the challenges each month.

So, my first bargins - 500g fresh chicken breasts reduced to 52p, 500g lean lamb mince 54p - must go to MrT's more often at 3.30 on a Sunday!

Sandles for my dauther - ticket said £6 but went through the til £1.75!

So, thanks for all the great advice and help, even if it wasn't directed at me, I am learning loads

May you all be well and laugh every day

ps hope this is the right place to put this dxx

  • THANK YOU to everyone who regularly posts on here and gives fab advise on how to budget food shops and also meal planning!!:T

We have a meal plan going which is doing fantastic in this household, no more staring at the fridge and cupboards wondering what to do each day!!!
We stick to a strict food shopping list now and only buy what we need for the week. It is very basic but we are basic people LOL!

Alot of myfriends are spending a fortune on food and think my basic food shop is terrible but i tend to disagree.

Our food shop bill is now around £120 a month which is a saving of £80 for us. We have always been on a small budget and we used to spend it on £1 pizzas and foods etc thinking cheap things= more!! not good!
We found this month our bill was only £87 as we had things like frozen pasta sauces and frozen meat which had been on offer previously and i have enough ingredients to make cake, biscuits and yoghurts this month so dont need to get them.

Just wish i had space for another freezer as i could buy so much more meats on offer and freeze more things `for next time` if i had the space. My fridge freezer only has 3 drawers and is pretty useless.

It is now a delight to be in the kitchen cooking and preparing meals, both my children are eating so much better now.
    SO thank you again x

    Hi Ladies & Gents

This is a thank you post to say it can be done
I was in shock this morning -

Went to hang yesterday's washing load on the line - the machine was empty none to go out and none to iron - all up to date

Went to put some washing in the machine - there was not enough for a load

This week I have followed the flyladies principle and it does work even if it does seem daunting

The kitchen is looking like new - just the oven to go :eek::eek::eek:

All main areas have been hoovered every other day

At the moment, the bathrooms are sprayed with vinegar and water solution ready to wipe down once I have finished typing and my cup of tea

All paperwork is filed - applying the principle of it only needs to be handled once

Average shopping bill cut from over £750 per month to just over £300 and still working on this

Best of all though DH and DS have been roped in and are so naive they do not even realise it - all for the cost of a little note with kisses on the bottom :rotfl:

    Thank you again

Well done you! Sounds as if you're really getting everything together!
I find using my timer really helps with getting things done. I usually set it for 15 or 30 minutes and just crack on until it buzzes. It's amazing how much I can really get through when I do this - and I can also stop with a clear conscience.

Thanks for this. I need a kick up the bum and have been studiously avoiding the flylady thread. Really must give it a go, even though the house is fairly clean and tidy, but could do a lot more if i cba!

Kick up bum - here you are

I do not post on the flylady thread as that seems like setting myself up for failure - I have tried before and then get disillusioned that I am only doing Level 1 and everyone else seems to be doing 3+.

I just check in once a day for the list and get on with it.

    Another kick up bum :rotfl:
