We've had to cut down due to DH's job, and my food budget has been cut by half in the last few weeks, but we are actually eating better now than we were before! That comment came from the family, lol, so I feel quite ashamed at the amount of ready meals I used to buy.
Today we had a really lovely tea, I did my weekly shop today and noticed that the 3 cheese quiche in Tesco was half price, only a £1, so I bought one of those (I know it's not homemade but was a bargain!), then bought a 40p Value garlic bread, and the rest of the food was left from last week's shop or already in the cupboard (unbelievable I know, when my budget is around £55 per week for a family of 4 adults including a teenage boy!).
The menu was:
4 Cheese Quiche
Mushroom pasta (fry a finely chopped onion in a frying pan in 1 tablespoon of oil till soft, add sliced mushrooms, season with salt and pepper and Italian Herbs, boil the pasta and when cooked add to the pan and stir well)
Garlic bread
Salad
Dessert was double chocolate and strawberry dessert, which I made in layers up in individual serving dishes using Tesco Value Jelly, a 4 pack of Value Chocolate Mousse, a few grapes (to put in the jelly), and some grated Tesco Value While Chocolate on the top. Cost about 10p per person for that dessert, and it was gorgeous!
Tomorrow I'm making a Lemon Drizzle Cake for DS to celebrate him passing his GCSEs, so we will see how that comes out. I made a cheese and onion pie, including pastry from scratch, a couple of days ago and everyone loved it, and have also made home made potato wedges which tasted so much nice than the ones we used to buy and you get loads more for less money!
Can't you tell I'm a convert?I really have to say a big, big thank you to all of you who have taken the time to post recipes on these forums and to give advice no matter how silly the question, I'm still a novice, lol, but have learnt loads already in the past couple of weeks, so thank you for that! :T

This site is so great and everyone so friendly - I'm glad you are managing to cope with your reduced budget. I bet even when things are on the up again you'll still be more frugal - that's what OS does to you!!
Congrats on getting the bug and I'm sure you'll be asked to share more of your recipes on here.
Oh and congratulations on the exam passes Master Cheeselady!
It's only a game
