I guess I've been working on this for 18 years! Bit like when I first gave up smoking when I was 20 and I lasted about 2 hours - took me decades after that to completely kick it - :o I'm a slow learner :D

But you learned. And I expect you kept looking for ways that would work for you for all that time. Same here about the smoking, btw. I gave up smoking over and over again and then the final time I never went back to it. Much as I loved smoking I always wanted to be a non-smoker - I just couldn't work out how to get from the habit to the lack of the habit and the thought of stopping was . It takes a bit of doing, but when we get it right, it sticks.

I did the quiz Honey Bear. Results as expected.

So, now you know, and if you've read the commentary around the test and the results you'll now what's in store. I don't envy you. It's a horrible wake up call, but I think the majority of people who do the test are probably secretly a bit worried by their drinking.

There's a blog called A Dappled Path by a lovely, lovely lady called Annie who's been posting for nearly two years about her drinking. My heart absolutely goes out to her because she's really, really battling with the booze habit and she's had more Day 1s than anyone else I've come across. She occasionally password protects it so it disappears for weeks or months and then it reappears. Nothing anyone has ever said to her on the blog appears to have stopped her picking up a glass again, and more than once I've come across people who've tried to offer something and she's taken it the wrong way. (I know, because I was one of them.) My heart aches for her because she so wants to be able to stop.

I worry, Stu, that we might not be making any contribution to helping you change your behaviour so that you can kick the habit. What do you think we could do that might make the difference for you?

Best part was I kept saying to myself before the wedding "don't drink Stupot, you'll be a nutter". Minute the champagne came out after the wedding I had one in my hand.

The last night I drank I arrived at the party with a litre of tomato juice, Worcester sauce and as a chaser, a couple of litres of tonic. I wasn't going to drink, either, but just like you the host shoved a glass of bubbly stuff in my hand I decided it would be rude not to. Not the best decision I've ever made.

Last three nights haven't been AFD for me, getting back into it tomorrow, but the good thing is that I feel I've had enough a hell of a lot sooner than say about five years ago. I seem to always keep it to three. Which is still maybe too much but so much more restrained than I used to be. Onwards and upwards etc.

Fantastic, CathyBird. If cutting down and moderating are possible keep pegging away at it, good on you and well done.

    5/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

    Good Morning Everyone,

Stupot I am so sorry you are having such a torrid time, sending you positive vibes and a dodgy hug :grouphug:. I hope you manage to achieve a balance and get to a place you want to be.

Dizzy, hope you're feeling better soon.

3/20 AFD for me for last night please Shaggy. At my wits end here with lazy teenagers with exams looming please feel my pain and send me some positivity.

On the plus side and slightly off topic, I've managed to weight bear on the scales this morning and have now lost a total of 41lbs in weight. The cutting back on booze is a huge factor in this!!

Have woken up happy & sober.
I am smiling on the outside & feeling borderline emotional. Today I am feeling very optimistic.

Thank you Graemecarter for your kind words. Judging by what you & Honey Bear have suggested, i think I may have to go and see my GP to see what is available.

Thanks for the hug Arkers. :-)

I hope that this can be the start of my "dry april". Calling in 2/30 AF for tonight.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
