  • Thanks for the advice Smiley, she was the person I most related to. I'll definitely have a look at her book. Hope you are doing well too. I did have a few drinks last night, I'm hoping to get to the stage where I can just have a drink when I'm seeing my partner or friends, and nothing on the nights I'm sitting in watching TV on my own. The fact that you are a glass of wine/packet of crisps girl too warmed my heart! I weighed myself on Friday afternoon and after only 5 days off the booze (and off the crisps) I've lost 4lbs.... amazing! That, if nothing else, will encourage me to continue :)

Me too debjay :D I'm not finding it as difficult as I thought - it may have something to do with the fact that I announce my desire to do Dry January as soon as we arrive anywhere, then nobody tempts me with alcohol. And I am sleeping soooo much better.

    16/31 please Shaggy.

15/31 for tonight please. Apparently this weekend is when a lot of people quit Dry January. Hope everyone here makes it through :A

As a matter of fact I feel as though I'm fighting off some sort of bug and would have dearly liked a whisky earlier to soothe the sore throat I woke up with, but not sure whisky ever really helps with these things anyway, ha ha :) Anyway, I didn't, and the sore throat went away without it. :)

I can see why people give up at this point - it's been two weeks, you generally feel a bit better by that point, so you feel you've given your body a break anyway, and January can be grim. But it's better to stick to it.
  • Up and at 'em early today. Declaring early (as always to be fair!) 13/27 please shaggy

    Hi everyone,
I am hoping to join you in my quest for a more balanced consumption of alcohol.
Currently I drink too much, too often and it's time I grew up and took a more sensible approach. After all I am 50 this year and while I don't feel it, or actually look it, I beginning to become more concerned about the effects of alcohol on my health as I tip over into the second half of my personal century.

I probably average 3 or 4 alcohol free days a week. On the other days I can consume as little as one drink or as many as five or six. Every time I drink too much I regret it, but fail to stop myself the next time.

My goal is to drink no more than 2 nights a week and no more than 3 drinks. That would be a good step for me. I don't want to give up entirely but clearly need to pull back.

The alcohol consumption is often work stress related. I try to combat this by attending yoga and meditation and walk around 5 miles a day. I have also started working part time - about a year ago which helps.

It would appear there are 15 days left in the month and would like to pledge 11/15 alcohol free days. If I can manage that, I will be chuffed to bits.

I am a bit of a carrot and stick girl though so if I do it I'm going to treat myself to a massage.

I hope you don't mind me joining you all, you seem like a nice, non- judgemental lot to me.

    Thanks:):):)
